Bi-Weekly XLXVI No. 12, June 18, 2014 faith friendship fellowship followership fruitfulness www.firstsayyes.com When Jesus came to earth he was on a mission. He wanted to restore a relation- ship between people and God. This relationship had been broken by sin. This sin separated us from God’s love. It is not that God ceased to love us. Our own sinfulness caused us to hide, to feel shame and guilt. It was killing us. Literally. So when Jesus came, he took on sin. He became sin for us. He offered his life and paid the penalty for sin which was death. And as he died, he removed anything that would stand between us and God. He made a way where there had been no way. Three days after dying he rose again! He con- quered death! He lives! As Jesus came, his mission was not only to erase sin and death, his mission was to live in us, to invite us into a rela- tionship with God because he, too, is God! Jesus is God in the flesh. He is God with us. This is the good news, God loved us before we could ever return that love. He loves us whether we ever return it or not. Isn’t it sad to think that some of us miss out simply because we think we are unworthy or we think we don’t need God or we just don’t believe the invitation and place has been made for us? Don’t miss out! His love is for all. His love is for YOU! He doesn’t wait for us to be good enough, smart enough, pretty/handsome enough, kind enough… , ________ enough (you fill in). God first loved us. He loves us still. He longs for us to be in relationship with Him. He moves heaven and earth to come to us, to be among us and to restore what was broken by sin (and death). This is not just the Easter mes- sage. It is God’s message and our hope! It is the mission. We are to go into all the world and shout God’s good news! Sometimes we talk about mis- sions—like going on a mission trip or sending money for mis- sions. Behind everyone of these efforts and outreaches we see the heart of the matter: To bring people closer to God through Jesus. So when we build wells, fund missionaries, go on trips, love orphans, care for widows, feed the hungry, clothe, house, resource persons down on their luck, it is in Jesus’ name for this mission—God loves everyone! God wants any and all of us to be in relationship with Him. More than paying for our sins, Jesus makes the way for us to experience God. Let’s be on mission! To seek out people who may feel lost from God. To tell, show and share with others God’s love—because someone shared it with us! See you at the “mission” place this weekend! ~jimd. Come learn in a non-pressure environment how you can remember the church in your will and consider making a gift that will bless future generations of fol-lowers of Jesus. We will have a dessert gathering on June 19th at 6:30 p.m. at the Celebration Center in The Gathering Place.
