State of the Nation Address 24 July 2017

The Hon. Pres.Duterte stated that a secured and peaceful nation can be addressed by achieving lasting peace, advancing the national interest in the global community and enhancing resiliency to natural disasters. To strengthen disaster resiliency the instrument signifying the Philippines’ accession to the Paris Agreement was signed on 28 February 2017 and concurred by the Senate on 14 March 2017. (Ref:

State of the Nation Address 24 July 2017) The “Climate Change Action” is the International Union of Architects’ (UIA) theme for this year’s celebration of the World Architecture Day 2017. The UIA supports 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement’s quest to address climate change and its impact to the environment, hence all architects and architecture-related organizations are enjoined to adhere.

UAP MEMO CIRCULAR NO. 9 (2017)

The Memorandum Circular No.9, s 2017 , issued on September 3, 2017 enjoins all UAP Chapters to observe the annual celebration of the World Architecture Day with the theme “Climate Change Action” by participating in the photography contest initiated by the Committee on World Architecture Day and to promote awareness through the conduct of seminars, exhibits or any related activities that will promote the local UAP World Architecture Day theme “Luntiang Gusali at Kapaligiran: Pangangalaga sa Ating Kalikasan” (Greening Our Built Environment Addressing Climate Change)

The UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter’s has been in partnership with the Mandaluyong City since 2007. Through the constant coordination with Atty Jessie Cruz and in cooperation with Mayor Benhur Abalos, Jr. the UAP SJMC Resolution No. 003, s 2007 on the “Adoption of Barangay Barangka Ibaba, Mandaluyong City was approved and is being sustained until the present. The project is being initiated by the Chapter as part of the services of the UAP as mandated by the Republic Act No. 9266. This paved the way for the courtesy call to Councilor Jesus “Jessie” Cruz and Engr. Armando Comandao of the City Planning and Development Officer on September 22, 2017 not only to reminisce the partnership but to invite them to the World Architecture Day event where they have always been part of.

The UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter celebrated the World Architecture Day by organizing a Seminar/Exhibit at the Bridgeway of the Estancia Mall, Capital Commons, Pasig City. It was


made possible through the collaboration with the UAP National, the UAP District A5, FEU UAP Student Auxiliary together with government agencies such as the Mandaluyong City Green Building Authority, Pasig City Green Building Code, the Pasig City CENRO, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Public Safety Office and the Department of Energy and Natural Resources

EVENTS CHRONOLOGY OF WAD-RELATED ACTIVITIES

SEPTEMBER 19, 2017

o The UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter (SJMC) Board Meeting was held at the Estancia Mall, Capitol Commons Complex, Kapitolyo, Pasig. The meeting which was conducted separately, from 7:30 to 11:00 P.M. at the Mediterranean Restaurant and Starbucks Restaurant, from 11:00 to 11:45 P.M. was presided by Arch. Joel B. Fernandez, uap , Chapter President and was participated by the current Board Officers along with Arch. Maria Carmen S. Yatco,uap, Incoming District Director District A5 and Arch. Russell Fatima N. Moleta,uap, Chapter Adviser. Among the topics discussed were the UAP Memorandum Circular No. 09 , s 2017 on the upcoming celebration of the World Architecture Day and the proposed UAP SJMC WAD Activity which will be conducted at the Estancia Mall. It was agreed that the WAD project will be held at the Bridgeway of the said mall however, it will be subject to approval by the Mall authorities.

SEPTEMBER 20, 2017

o Preparation of letters to the Hon. Menchie Abalos, Mandaluyong City Mayor and Hon. Guia Gomez, San Juan City Mayor requesting for a courtesy call.

o Conceptualization of the exhibit plan by Arch. Ronald John O. Gregorio, uap, WAD Chapter Committee Head. The proposed exhibit will be located at the Estancia Mall Bridgeway. The plan will be presented to the General Manager and Marketing Manager on September 21, 2017 for approval (SEE BELOW).


o The proposed exhibit / seminars will be conducted at the Estancia Mall Bridgeway,

, Capital Commons, Pasig City.


SEPTEMBER 21, 2017

o Preparation of letters to concerned agencies such as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources and the NCD, NCR and sponsorship letters to BOYSEN and Faber Castel

o Coordination with UAPSA President on the mechanics for the art contest

o Preparation of layout for WAD backdrop, banners and marketing ads. Exhibit area and materials to be coordinated with the Estancia Mall marketing manager.

SEPTEMBER 22, 2017

o Committee meeting, 8:00 A.M. at the Greenwich Restaurant, Maysilo Circle, Mandaluyong City. Discussed were the submission of the WAD invitation letters to the UAP National and District Officers, the inclusion of Arch. Angelyn Macawili to the WAD Committee, approval of the exhibit layout, consideration for a video coverage and photo documentation, booking of 2 day WAD exhibit at the Estancia Mall bridgeway, request of Magna Prime as sponsor.

o Courtesy call to Councilor Jesus “Jessie” Cruz and Engr. Armando Comandao, Mandaluyong City Planning and Development Officer, 10:00 A.M. at the Mandaluyong City Hall. The UAP SJMC’s partnership with Atty Jessie Cruz have been established way back in 2007 when the chapter in cooperation with Mayor Benhur Abalos, Jr. paved the way for the Adopt-A-Barangay Project. The continuing venture with Mandaluyong City will be sustained through their participation in the upcoming celebration of the World Architecture Day.

o WAD Committee Meeting at the Estancia Mall. Discussed were the update of submission of invitation letters to the UAP National, local offices and concerned agencies and the request for exhibit stands. Some members of the WAD Committee conducted an ocular inspection on the proposed WAD exhibit area while the rest of team are carrying out other WAD tasks such as making updates on invitees, canvas / purchase of required materials to name a few.


SEPTEMBER 28, 2017

o UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter 3rd General Membership Meeting was graced by the presence of Arch. Gabriel Maria Angelo B. Cascante, UAP, CBP ,held on September 28, 2017 at the Shakeys Restaurant, Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City. Arch. Cascante shared insights on the World Architecture and the upcoming celebration to be held on October 2, 2017.


o Board Meeting held at the Shakeys Restaurant on September 28, 2017 Discussed were preparations for the upcoming WAD activities to be held on Oct 2, 2017 at the Ramon Magsaysay Building and Oct. 5 to 6, 2017 at the Estancia Mall.


SEPTEMBER 30, 2017

o In times when the members of the WAD Committee are doing their tasks the coordination is being made through the “messenger”. The following updates were noted:

On-going coordination with concerned schools in Pasig City and Mandaluyong City on the number of participants for proposed poster making contest.

Arch. Gregorio reported the following: Steel frames for the WAD exhibit has been granted by the Estancia

company The marketing team approved the deployment on the use of mall

furniture such as the tables and chairs, backdrop and the sound system

The Artic (sponsor) is currently preparing the wood frames .

Arch. Carlo Martinez, uap , Pasig City Chapter President will assist in setting up the exhibit . According DDA5 Arch. Bernal, uap other DA5 Chapter Presidents will also assist.

Catering will be prepared by the Mellow Jam Cuisine Catering Services

ordered.

The annual celebration of the World Architecture Day 2017 which was held on October 2, 2017 was spearheaded by Arch. Gabriel Ma. Angelo B. Cascante, uap, OIC-UAP WAD Committee. Among the UAP participants who graced the event was Arch. Joel B. Fernandez, uap of the UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter President . The morning activity consisted of the flag raising, the courtesy call to Manila Mayor Hon. Joseph E. Estrada , the mass and the motorcade from the Manila City Hall to the Plaza Rajah Sulayman.

The UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter represented by Arch. Joel B. Fernandez,uap, Chapter President along with Arch. Zander P. Servando,uap, Arch. Victor H. Guerrero,uap and Arch. Russell Fatima N, Moleta,uap participated in the celebration the World Architecture Day (WAD).

The annual celebration of the WAD, held on October 2, 2017 was spearheaded by Arch. Gabriel Ma. Angelo B. Cascante, uap, OIC-UAP WAD Committee. The event was graced by Arch. Guillermo H. Hisancha, fuap, APEC Ar, ASEAN Ar., UAP National President together with officers from the UAP National, the representatives from varied UAP chapters . The Memorandum Circular No.9, s 2017 enjoins all UAP Chapters to observe the annual celebration of the World Architecture Day with the theme “Climate Change Action” by participating in the photography contest initiated by the Committee on World Architecture Day. In line with this, our chapter encouraged Arch. Jose Zander P. Servando to submit his entry for the said contest. With God’s grace he was able to win the first prize. Also, in line with the promotion of awareness through the conduct of seminars, exhibits or any related activities that will promote the local UAP World Architecture Day theme “Luntiang Gusali at Kapaligiran: Pangangalaga sa Ating Kalikasan” (Greening Our Built Environment Addressing Climate Change) Arch. Fernandez and Arch. Servando extended an invitation to the WAD participants to visit the UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter’s WAD Exhibit to be held from October 5 -6, 2017.

facilitate delivery and installation in the evening.
