VIETNAM INTRODUCTION
Unit 7 – The Times They
Are A-Changin’
What wars are we engaged in right now?
How often do you see images and videos of the wars America is fighting right now?
Vietnam Reporting
The Vietnam War was shown on televisions every night on the news, so people watched it. It was the first televised war.
-you saw statistics of how many people died each day and week
-now we are fighting multiple wars and now you generally don't see coverage of wars
Why do you think that is?
Question to Discuss
Is it possible that news agencies feel it's too dangerous to put their reporters in harm’s way?
Another Question:
Has the internet taken away readers and money from traditional news channels and so they can't afford to put as many reporters in the field to cover wars?
An additional question:
If today you saw images and videos of body bags coming home and saw tallies of how many people died each day and week, and people dying and bombs going off, would this affect how you view the wars we are fighting?
Last Question:
Do you think it's possible that the U.S. Government has an interest in you supporting wars we are involved in? Is it helpful in maintaining American support that there isn't constant visual coverage of America’s wars?
