WHAT´S ENERGY? Energy is the ability of an object to
change things around it. Energy can be mechanical , light , sound
, thermal electrical , chemical or nuclear
SOURCES OF ENERGY Can be:
Renewable such as water, wind, sun, biomass or waves and tidies
Non Renewable such as fuels or uranium and plutonium
ENERGY TRANSFORMS Our bodies transform chemical energy
from food into mechanical energy for movement.
ELECTRICITY Electricity is a form of energy :• We can transport it easy through power
lines.• It can transform into others types of
energy, like the light energy of a light bulb.
ELECTRICAL CHARGES Static electricity : it occurs when an
object accumulate electrical charge. It can be :
Neutral Positively charge Negatively charge
CONDUCTING & INSULATING MATERIALS• Conducting materials : electrical charges
moves easily through them.• Insulating materials : electrical charges
cannot move through them.
ELECTRICAL CURRENT Electrical current is the movement of
electrical charges through a conducting material.
PRODUCING ELECTRICITY
HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION
NUCLEAR POWER STATION
THERMAL POWER STATIONS
WIND FARMS & SOLAR POWER STATIONS
ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT Producing and using electricity cause
problems to the environment.
Changes in landscapes Depletion Pollution
USING ENERGY EFFICIENTLY Use public
transport
Turn off heaters Practise the 3 R`s
WHAT`S MAGNETISM ? Magnetism is the ability of materials to
atract metals.
CHARACTERISTICS OF MAGNETS
All magnets have two parts, their north poles (N) and their south poles (S)
