    ASDA

    The Recruitment Process

ASDA plans and puts candidates through a recruitment process. In this process ASDA indentifies the

vacancy and draws up a job description. This notifies people of the available job and describes therole of the employee. ASDA then draws up a person specification, this is a description of the type of person ASDA is looking for. The vacancy for ASDA is advertised on their website. This way ASDA canupdate job information regularly and allow people to apply for the job online.Using informationabout the people that applied for the job, ASDA will create a short-list of the applicants. This willnarrow down the number of people to those with more experience or qualifications for the job.Once this short-list is created, the remaining applicants will be interviewed by a member or managerfrom the human resources department. Once the entire short-list has been interviewed, ASDA willhave all the information it needs to make its decision on whom to hire. At this stage ASDA willappoint the person that meets the person specification and notify all unsuccessful candidates.

    The Retention Process

Retention is about an employer keeping its employees at work for as long as possible. Retention isimportant because the organisation would have spent a lot time and effort into recruiting its staff and losing them would be a waste of resources and time. There are many different ways for anorganisation to retain their staff. The organisation can have a career structure where the employeecan earn promotions and gain more responsibilities and control. Another way of retaining staff is forthe organisation to have an appraisal system for its employees. This way the employees can earn payrises and bonuses in return for their hard work and loyalty.

I believe my skills can apply to this job. By completing this business studies course I have a greaterunderstanding of how the business runs and how it makes profits. Throughout the course I havelearnt a lot about communications skills, methods of communication and the importance of goodcommunication skills. I also have a greater understanding of how the business is successful. Theseskills will tie in well with my determination and passion for retail.

It is important for an employee of a supermarket to have these skills, this is mainly because goodcommunication and customer services skills can ensure that customer return to shop at thesupermarket. There is big competition between supermarkets, therefore building a goodrelationship between the customers and the employers can ensure that the supermarket I wish towork for will gain a greater market share or a competitive edge. Employers value these skills becausethey can improve customer satisfaction and sales revenues.
