Read “STOP!” before you answer Numbers 1 through 5.
STOP!Walking home from school each day
my friends and I wave goodbye at Pine Road.
It is time to cross that big, wide street—
An unsafe speedway where cars zoom past.
“STOP!” I think to myself. But no one hears me.
The cars zip by—I am a ghost to them.
Every day I think, “We need a STOP sign here.”
I stand, hovering above the curb—staying put—
wishing I could fly instead of walking across.
Finally, I get to the other side and arrive home safely.
I complain to Dad—and he agrees with me!
“We’ll go to the town meeeting on Tuesday,” he says.
“We’ll make a video at Pine Road to show.”
We must get the town council’s attention.
Tuesday comes and we are ready.
We show the video. We present our plan.
“Put up STOP signs at Pine Road!”
The council members agree—the signs will go up!
I turn to my dad and make a “V” with two fingers—
the sign of victory—and triumph. We did it!
Smiling, I think how cars will now “STOP!”
