UNIT 3
PEOPLE I LOVE
1. MY LOVED ONES:
1. Vaylee shares some of the things she does with her loved
ones.
2. She reads together with her parents and goes to fishing
with her grandfather, do the sewing with her grandmother
and plays with her friend.
2. MY GRAND MOTHER:
1. Aliya loves her grandmother because her grandmother is
special to her.
2. Students will talk about their grandparents and what do
they adore about them.
3. ENDING SOUNDS 'NK' AND 'NT'.
1. Sound of consonant blends/ consonant clusters in words and how
they give unique sounds.
2. Examples: Trunk, Paint
4. MY SISTER'S EYES:
1. The poem is about the poet's sister. She has eyes that are
round with wonder and bright like a thunder of light. Her
eyes have a tint of green. Her eyes tell us about childish
mischief and are filled with inquisitiveness.
2. Students will talk about their siblings and what they like
about them.
5. MY SISTER KISHWAR:
1. The story is about the author and how was she jealous of
her younger sister. The author is the eldest child of her
parents and she used to have all the attention of her
parents but with the arrival of her sister Kishwar, she had to
share all the love and attention with her.
2. Kishwar snatched all the attention from her and the author
was not happy about it. She did not see a sister in her rather
she saw a rival in her younger sister.
3. In the end of the story the author got admitted in hospital
and her parents and Kishwar were anxious for her. She then
realized that how much her parents and sister loved her.
6. SYNONYMS
1. A synonym is a word which means the same as another
word.
2. Example: Sick, Ill
DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH:
1. Direct speech refers to a speaker's exact words. Direct
speech may take the form of a play script, speech balloons
and words spoken by somebody in a story.
2. Direct speech is enclosed in inverted commas.
3. Indirect speech refers to the words of speaker in our own
words.
4. For indirect speech we do not use inverted commas or
quotation marks.
THE EXCLAMATION MARK:
1. The exclamation mark is used at the end of a sentence to
show strong feelings.
2. Examples: Help! Hurray! Alas!

FAMOUS PEOPLE
1. Do you know them?
Neil has conducted a project on some people who led extraordinary
lives.
Albert Einstein was born in Germany in the year 1897 He was a
slow learner in his early childhood but eventually he proved himself
to be a great scientist. His theory of relativity is remarkable
achievement in the world of scientific truths.
Helen Keller was born in England in 1880. She became blind when
she was nineteen months old. With the efforts of teacher; Anne
Sullivan, she learnt to read and write using Braille Typewriter.
2. Men of Courage:
Student will talk about Martin Luther King and Sir Alexander
Graham Bell.
They will discuss their achievements and to which country they
belong.
3. Consonant Blends 'SK', 'SQ' AND 'ST'.
Students will learn about how two different consonants join together to
give a single sound.
They will read the poem about LITTLE MR.SKUNK RYE and take note of
words in blue.

4. Are You An Unsung Hero?
Students will share their experiences of how they ever
helped somebody out of a difficult situation.
They will talk about the importance of helping others and
becoming real life heroes.
5. The Unsung Heroine
The story is about Mrs.Prefontaine and how she helped a
drowning boy on a stormy night in a cruise.
Mrs.Prefontaine was sitting in her cabin and the weather outside
was stormy. A boy slipped from the deck and fell into the sea. No
body dared to jump in the choppy water. Mrs.Prefontaine
gathered her will and jumped into the sea to save the boy. She felt
proud of her heroic act of saving the boy.
6. Famous Scientists
Students will do a research about anyone of the four scientists given in the
book. They will search about their inventions, importance of the invention and
how those inventions changed people's lives.
Joseph Priestly discovered the gas called oxygen.
Galileo Galileo invented the thermometer and developed a telescope.
Marie Curie discovered the substance called radium.
Thomas Edison invented the electric bulb.
7. Antonyms
An antonym is a word that is opposite in meaning to another
word.
Examples: Happy/ sad
Hot/ Cold
8. WH-Questions
WH-Questions allow someone to find out more information about
something or someone.
WH-words are
WHEN for time
WHERE for place and direction
WHO for persons
WHOM for persons
WHOSE for persons
WHICH for things and persons of a limited number
WHY for reason
WHAT about things and activities
HOW for about manner
9. The Question Mark
Students will learn about importance of punctuation marks in a
piece of writing. They will learn that Question Mark is placed at
the end of a question.
Example: What is Bill Gates famous for?
10. A Biography
A biography is a record of a person's life written by another
person.
The writer of such documents is known as a biographer.
The person being written about is biographee or subject the book.
Biography is written to provide information on the subject's life
and experiences in an interesting manner.
Students will read about the life of Florence Nightingale.
