HOME OWNER’S BOARD Deb Engstrom, President
Happy 2019! Hope everyone had a happy holiday season and got to spend time with loved ones. There were no urgent matters, so the board was also able to take a holiday break. Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 24th,
7:00pm, with open forum at 6:30pm. I encourage you to attend our meetings and stay informed. Let any board member know if you have an item you would like added to the agenda for board consid-eration. You can read the 2018 annual meeting minutes at www.themainlands.com website or posted in the clubhouse office to learn about all of the great
things our community achieved in 2018. In the new year, we will be updating our census infor-mation for each and every household, continuing to work on the purchase of our clubhouse lease, continue to brainstorm solutions to repairing and replacing roofs, and tentatively in March begin phase one of a four-year house painting project involving approximately 90 homes painted each year. Please watch your speed in the community. The master association has a committee working on solutions to how cars and pedestrians can safely share the road. Thank you all for following the rules and regula-tions of the community and maintaining your property. It keeps Unit 3 a great place to live!
SOCIAL CLUB Jan Urquhart, President
We are bringing another year to an end, and planning an exciting 2019. Many memories were made, getting to know many new neigh-bors. It has been a great year as your Social Club president. I am so pleased with many of you that have volunteered for many events. It makes a difference,
thank you so much.
Excited to have our first dance in January, our popu-lar At The Hop dance with Peter Cunningham, (a.k.a. Mr. E and His Laptop) as DJ on January 19th 7-10
pm. Admission to this dance is in keeping with the era, $3.00, and includes 3-hours of 50s-60s music and a root beer float at intermission. Lois Katz is sell-ing tickets at Kaffee Klatch or by calling her at 201-8586.
Your Social Club dances are on the third Saturday in February, March, April, and May. We proudly feature great bands and entertainers performing for us.
You can get more details about all of our events at Kaffee Klatch on Thursdays at 8:30am, on the bulletin board in the clubhouse, on the Courier calendar, and on our website at www.themainlands.com.
COMING MARCH 23 & 24: “A Night To Remember With The Army Boys”. This will be a showing of the full length video of the variety show “You’re In The Army Now” performed on March 12 and 13, 2016. Over 40 residents participated in the show. $5110 was raised and donated to benefit the local veterans park “Wounded Warrior Abilities Ranch” located on 5500 62nd. Ave. North, in Pinellas Park. Maggie Levey, who produced and directed the show, is organizing this night to remember event. There will be a modest admission charge (to be determined) that will be do-nated to the Ranch. Representatives from the Ranch will be present. You can bet that these will be memorable eve-nings that we can all be proud of. Details are being worked out and will be announced at forthcoming Unit 3 activities. In the meantime, drop by the Ranch to see what it is all about. See candid photos of 2016 show on page 8.

MEN’S CLUB Phil Mugavero, President
The Men's Club had their appreciation dinner on December 15th; I believe it was a success. After dinner we had Christmas karaoke with about 20 people staying to sing.
In January, our first event will be our monthly meeting on January 10th at 6:00 pm. Then we will be having our baked fish dinner on Sunday, January 20th, dinner will be served at 6:00; the menu will be baked haddock, cole slaw, small rosemary roasted potatoes, salad rolls, & dessert. Price stays the same as last year $8. Tickets can be purchased at Kaffee
Klatch or call Phil Mugavero at 727-804-3140. Our last event will be our French toast breakfast on Jan-uary 26th; also the same price as last year, $3.50. The Men's Club would like to wish every body a very Happy New Year, and for all our folks traveling, let's make it a safe new year.
WOMEN’S CLUB Fran George, President
Wishing a happy and healthy New Year to you and your family. On December 7th, our Holiday Party was so much fun that the members voted to have it at the clubhouse next year too! Many thanks to the ladies who adopted a table and shared the story of their collec-
tions. The room was decorated with Christmas and Hanukkah. Thank you to the men who served our delicious meal.
January 18th is our next meeting at noon. Lunch will consist of pizza, salad, and a dessert. Be sure to be ready to laugh. The Bra Lady will take us on
a journey of our relationship with our over the shoulder boulder holder. Please sign up at the clubhouse.
It’s the first of the year so your $10 dues are due. Deb Rhoads will be collecting at the January meeting and at Kaffee Klatch. If you have ever thought about joining the Women’s Club this is the time to do it. Your newly elected board is excited and full of new and fun ideas.

A note from your editor. We’re off to the start of another new year. We are so blessed to live here in
Mainlands; and especially in Unit 3. In fairness, I should say that all the units are a great place to live,
it’s just that home is where the heart is and our home is Unit 3. That’s where we count our blessings
and give praise for our fellow neighbors. As I publish each Courier, I am so proud of all the good will
our neighbors create through their volunteerism (definition: the use or involvement of volunteer labor,
especially in community services). From the top volunteer organization down, we have our Home
Owner’s Board (7), our Social Club (7), our Women’s Club (5) and Men’s Club (5), the legacy of Unit 3
continues because of volunteers. We have several what I call “walk-on” volunteers that have an idea
and step up to bring it to fruition. When you read through each Courier, in your mind thank those who
strive to make Unit 3 a home where we have all become brothers and sisters caring for each other.
We have many relatively new residents in Unit 3. Everyone is welcome to come to all of the activities.
Some might be a bit shy, some might still be working and not have time to volunteer to “work” on activi-
ties, but they might come to participate as a guest if asked. You’ll meet the nicest people through vol-
unteerism. Helen and I are planning to have round three of our “What Was My Line” show on March
10th. It is patterned after the 1960’s TV show “What’s My Line.” The purpose is to get to know your
neighbors better. If you are relatively new and had an interesting career or have an unusual hobby and
would be willing to share it with our community, please let Helen or me know and we will consider you
as a contestant. You can reach us by email at [email protected] or by phone at 727 592-9715. It’s
through participating in our activities that you will extend the notable reputation that Unit 3 has of being
“a great place to live.”
The Spotlight Dancer's & Co, performed it's Holiday Revue show on
Christmas eve. Ana Garcia prepared a wonderful meal and the mem-
bers of the Spotlight Cast served the meals. Following the meal, the
SPOTLIGHT CAST performed. It was such a wonderful close to the
evening. It was a full house and everyone enjoyed the meal and the
show. Now, it's on to rehearsals for the spring show. Happy Holidays to all and looking forward to an-
other great year.

WALKING CLUB Elaine Wright
The Mainlands Walking Club has started off with a bang, one of our regulars has just earned her 400 mile pin, well done Eileen Hicks. More awards are on the horizon, so our regular band of walkers are still doing very
well. The average walk is between 3 and 4 miles, and a stop for lunch afterwards makes it all worthwhile. The exercise, fresh air, and viewing something different whilst walking is a very pleasant experience. If you feel like joining us, please do so. Most of the hikes start at 9:30am and we do depart exactly at 9:30am from the trail head on the walking trail. The up-coming Fort De Soto is one of them where we depart at 10:00am. Following is the schedule for January:
January 8 - 10:00am - Fort De Soto, Tierra Verde
January 15 - 9:30am - Kapok Park Trail, Clear-water
January 22 - 9:30am - Gulfport and Osgood Point - Gulfport
January 29 - 9:30am - Dunedin and Pinellas Trail - Dunedin
Please call Elaine R Wright 317 753-5516 for more information. A copy of the directions is on the notice board in the Clubhouse at Unit 3.
Full schedule and directions are on page 6.

Got an American Flag that is tattered and
worn? Want to dispose of it in a respectful man-
ner? Take it to the American Legion Post 104,
7550 60th St N, Pinellas Park, FL 33781. They
take flags that they collect to a local crematori-
um. When they cremate the remains of a veter-
an, they include a flag in the process. Can't be
more respectful than that.

Don't forget Super Bingo is January 12th. Doors open at 10:30 am. We will have sloppy Joes, potato chips, Cole slaw, soda and coffee at 11:30.
Games start immediately after lunch. At intermission, dessert & coffee will be available.
Super Bingo usually ends around 3-4pm. Hope you will all come.

INDOOR EXERCISE Lois Katz
You are welcome to join us for indoor exercise at Unit 3 clubhouse on Wednesday, and Friday at 9:00am. We use two DVD's, the 1st one consists of steps that add up to a 1-mile walk, and the 2nd is a routine of easy aerobics with various move-ments. You can do as much or as little as you want to; you don't have to do both sets entirely. Any questions, please contact Lois at 727-201-8586. Thank you.
NEW ACTIVITY Barbara Koceich
The knitting/crochet group met on Dec, 6th, and I am happy to say we have 13 ladies who will be making lap robes for the veterans at Bay Pines. The group will meet twice in January - Monday the 7th at 6:30 in the clubhouse and Thurs. the 24th right after Kaffee Klatch at approximately 9:30. If you live in Unit 3 and missed the December 6th meeting, feel free to come fellowship with us. For questions, please call Barbara at 409 789-2543, or [email protected].
A happy, healthy New Year to all. You may be thinking about a New Year resolution. Perhaps making one that will be about keeping healthy would be a good place to start. Nothing too big, they are too hard to keep. Get a Blood Pressure cuff and check your pres-sure regularly. Blood Pressure is a good indicator of health, checking it regularly helps pick up when a change occurs. Nearly everyone plans to lose weight but that can easily get discouraging and that resolu-tion goes by-by. Maybe plan to avoid certain foods
would be easier to keep. Just do not have them in the house! Mainlands 3 offers many opportunities to exercise; take advantage of one of those for a healthier 2019.

DID YOU KNOW that virtually all of our advertisers are “small businesses” run by local folks. I try to group their ads together to make them easy to find. Cur-rently, income from the ads more than pays for publishing the Courier. Monthly, we print 320 copies for door to door dis-tribution to nearly all the homes in Unit 3 at a cost of about $230 per monthly issue.
We have 353 homes in Unit 3 and some residents have opted out of the paper copy and read it on the Mainlands website; www.themainlands.com. This might seem like we’re short-changing the advertisers, but remember, on the website the Courier is available 24/7/365 from anywhere; on home com-puters and mobile devices.
