During this unit, all students will…• Understand the five stages of the writing

process;• Apply those stages to the five stages of

different types of writing.

Unit 2 The Writing Process

Group Activity – Quiz Grade• You will be working in groups to create a

poster of the five stages of the writing process.

• Use pages 46-48 of your textbook.• Brainstorm to develop a list of ways to show

the writing process visually.• Create visual drafts of your topic.

Unit 2 - The Writing Process

• As a group, go over the drafts, revise them, and edit them.

• Assemble your posters to display in the classroom.

• Remember…decide WHO is doing WHAT!

• You need a source of inspiration!

• Inspiration comes from the Latin word inspirare, which means “breathing in.”

• How do sights, sounds, and smells inspire writers?

Group Activity

• In your groups, discuss the challenges you have when writing.

• Suggest ways your classmates may be able to approach the challenges.

• Write down three of the challenges and solutions that others suggested.

Find a topic…

• Take some time to find a topic you would like to write about.

• You will be working with this topic through a series of lessons as you move through the writing process.
