Bible Story for ToddlersGod had a message for the people of Edom, Judah’s neighbors. The people of Edom and the people of Judah did not get along. The people of Judah had been taken away from their land because they stopped obeying God. When Babylon captured Judah, Edom was happy! They did not help the people of Judah. They even took things the Babylonians left behind. The prophet Obadiah said, “God will do to Edom what they did to Judah. But God will bring Judah back to their land, and God will be their King.”

Look in the BibleProvide small Bibles for babies. Open your Bible to the Book of Obadiah. Show the Bible story picture as you say the gospel gems. Read the key passage card. SAY • Edom was happy when God punished Judah, but God wasn’t going to

Sing a Bible story songSing to the tune of “B-I-N-G-O”:

“ God told prophets about His plan, His plan to send a Savior! J-E-S-U-S, J-E-S-U-S, J-E-S-U-S! God’s prophets told about Jesus!”

Make happy face artWrite GOD in large letters on construction paper. Provide happy face stickers for babies to place on their paper. Talk about the Bible story.SAY • Edom was happy when God punished Judah, but Judah would be happy

Make a crawling pathCut foam noodles in half lengthwise, and then cut them into 1-foot lengths. Use strips of adhesive hook-and-loop fasteners to secure the foam halves to the floor to make a wide path for babies to crawl through. Place favorite toys within the path to encourage babies to crawl. Talk about the Bible story.SAY • Obadiah said God would bring His people back to their land. THE

Play out family scenesProvide doll houses, people figures, and transportation toys for toddlers to play out family scenes. Talk about how Edom and Judah were neighbors, but they did not get along. Transition activity: Make sticky artTape a long sheet of clear contact plastic to the table. Cut out bush, tree, flower, and tent shapes from construction paper for toddlers to stick to the plastic as you talk about the Bible story. When finished, cover with another sheet of contact plastic to seal. Write the second gospel gem across the top and hang it throughout this unit. SAY • God allowed the king of Babylon to take Judah away. Edom was happy when

Play capture the flagPlace a small object, such as a ball or car, on a table or against a wall. Encourage toddlers to try to take the item while you try to tag them. Play as time allows.
