Pitch

Witness statement

On the 10th of December I pitched my idea of ‘M’ magazine to a publisher. In my pitch I had a presentation on the board so that the people in the room had something to look at and read whilst I explained my idea. During this the pitch was being recorded so that I would have video evidence of my pitch.Since my pitch I have gained some more evidence for my pitch including a witness statement and feedback from Mr Crafts. The feedback from Mr Crafts was in video format this helped me to ask any questions on his opinion of my pitch whilst also gain the evidence of pitching to the publisher. The witness statement also helped me to see brief strengths and weaknesses from the pitch as well as see if I included all the correct content in the pitch.

FeedbackI received feedback from the pitch in three different ways, these were a witness statement, a survey and a interview with the publisher.

From this feedback I could see the strengths and weaknesses from my pitch in the opinion of the people in the room including the publisher. The witness statement also helped me to see if I had included all the required information in the pitch. The interview with the publisher helped me to ask his opinion as well as gain more in depth feedback as I could ask questions and see what else I could do to improve my pitch.

Once I had looked through all my feedback I was able to point out all the changes I needed to make to improve my pitch.

Improvements to pitchSince collecting my feedback I have been able to make changes to the Prezi that I used to pitch my idea to the publisher. Some of the improvements that I made to the pitch was to add some more content to the presentation, this helped me to show my point better as well as make sure that I didn’t forget to say any information when pitching to the publisher.

Another improvement that I made to my Prezi was to change the presentation of it, this included changing the titles so that they were bigger and bolder. By doing this it allowed me to insure that everyone in the room would be able to read all the content and understand it fully. Additionally to make the Prezi easier for everyone in the room to be able to see it I added a zoom feature to the Prezi slides. This helped me to make the writing and images of materials that I made bigger so that they could see it clearly even from the other side of the room.

Finally I changed the layout of my presentation since receiving feedback to make the appearance better but it also helped me to expand brand identity as I placed the slides in a M shape.

LO4- ConclusionThis learning outcome I pitched an idea on a proposed magazine to a ‘publisher’ and gained feedback. I used a Prezi presentation to be able to explain and show my idea to the audience of the pitch clearly. In my pitch I included as many details about my magazine idea as possible. My pitch was presented in sections throughout the Prezi, these sections were the proposal, planning the magazine, sample materials, magazine drafts, feedback, final edits and finally ‘in the future’.The proposal was at the beginning of the pitch so that I could set the scene and give the audience a brief insight into the magazine before going into depth and showing them all the features within the magazine. The planning the magazine section included the production plan, budget summary and setting up the social networking pages. The social network page was set up at the beginning of planning the magazine because it allowed me to gain interest before making the magazine. By including the production plan and budget summary it allowed me to be able to show the audience that I had planned the magazine properly and that the magazine was achievable.Sample materials helped me to show the audience the progression of creating the magazine and allowing them to see how the magazine was created. The magazine drafts also allowed me to show the progression and how the magazine was inspired by Q. The ‘in the future’ section helped me to show the publisher and audience the direction that I wanted the magazine to go in and how that was going to be achieved.Whilst pitching, the publisher was writing up a witness statement and recording the pitch so that I could gain some feedback. After the pitch I used two other methods to gain feedback as well, these were a survey and a interview with the publisher. By gaining feedback it allowed me to make improvements for if I was going to pitch again as well as understand the areas that could be improved.

In conclusion I learnt that my pitch was important to the publisher because it helped me to show them every aspect of my magazine and then the feedback helped me to reach the highest standard possible.
