Thomas Aquinas wrote rules for a just war

It must be started by the proper rulers of the country.

The reasons for going to war must be good (just) and have the right intention.

It must be as a last resort.

No more force than necessary should be used and civilians must be protected.

Weapons are much more advanced and can kill lots of people. Some Christians say we need nuclear weapons to put others off attacking us.

Other Christians say that there should be no violence or threats of violence.

I disagree with this statement, because I believe that there are certain conditions when a war has to be fought. It might be to fight a terrible evil dictator (like Saddam Hussain)or to protect your land from being invaded (like Hitler). Some people may disagree with me and say that war is always wrong because it causes suffering and misery, particularly of innocent people. Some Christians say that war is o.k under certain conditions, this is called the just war theory. Other Christians (such as Quakers) say that Jesus said turn the other cheek and love your neighbour, so they are pacifists.
