The UNIS Hanoi Aquatics Programme

We off er a variety of opportunities to all students to improve and develop their swimming skills through:• PE swimming lessons • Aquatics Academy

In addition we off er parents, faculty and the wider community lessons and classes through:• Community Education Programme• Aquatics Academy• Service Learning Programme

OUR FACILITIES • Our 25 metre, six lane swimming pool is heated all year• A 15 metre shallow pool is available for our young beginners• We will be installing an electronic timing system this year to enhance our competitive

international swim meets• Dedicated pool changing rooms all have lockers and showers• A range of equipment is available poolside for all to use• Extensive poolside seating area • Wide range of swimming gear available at the School Store/SCO Boutique (see the website

Certifi ed (WSI) Swimming Teachers for our Aquatics Academy including three who can conduct lessons in Vietnamese for the wider community.

• Pool safety is our priority and we have four Red Cross certifi ed life guards with at least one on duty at all times.

SWIMMING KITParents must ensure that their child has the following items for both PE and the Academy swimming classes:• Swimsuit (underwear is not allowed)• Towel• Swim cap is must for long/medium hair• Goggles

TESTING/TRY OUTS FOR NEW STUDENTSAll new students (Grade 1 - 5) will be tested in the fi rst days of school to determine their swimming level. They must attend the testing if they wish to register for Session 1 (September start) or Session 2 (November start) classes with the Aquatics Academy for After School Activities.Testing will start at 15:40 on:• Thursday, August 14 Grades 4 and 5• Friday, August 15 MS and HS Swim Team Try-outs • Monday, August 18 Grades 2 and 3• Tuesday, August 19 Grade 1

PLEASE NOTE: Parents are responsible for bringing their child to the pool and must wait until testing is fi nished. No late buses are available.

What is available for my child during the year?

GRADES DISCOVERY, K1 AND K2• PE swimming lessons start in April or May• Aquatics Academy swimming classes are off ered through After School Activities (K1 and K2 only)

GRADES 1-5• Our PE Aquatics curriculum follows the Red Cross Learn-To Swim programme with students

learning at their diff erent levels and experience. (Details on the website: www.unishanoi.org/aquatics)

• Students can sign up for Aquatics Academy classes through the After School Activities programme registering with their appropriate level. NEW STUDENTS MUST ATTEND THE TESTING DATES (see above)

• The ES Swim Team is off ered to students from Grades 4 and 5 who have achieved Level 6.• ES Swim Team trains Tuesdays and Thursdays immediately after school and on Saturday

mornings.• All ES Swim Team members are expected to participate in all swim meets off ered by UNIS Hanoi.

MIDDLE SCHOOL (MS)• MS Swim Team trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, and on Saturday mornings

during the swim season (August 21 – November 16). • Try-outs for the MS Swim Team will take place at the UNIS Hanoi pool on August 15.• Grade 6 students who have completed at least Level 5 are welcome to join MS Swim Team

without try outs• Students who are selected for the MS Swim Team will be expected to attend swim meets

organized at UNIS Hanoi and will also be invited to attend some travel events.• After the offi cial MS Swim Team season (November 16), MS students may continue with

the Academy through After School Activities and Community Education programmes and Saturday mornings.

• MS swimmers training during post season are encouraged to participate in all swim events including our Annual Swim Gala in May.

• Any MS students who wish to improve their skills and/or learn new strokes are welcome to join the Fitness & Technique swimming groups or Water Polo, registering through After School Activities for the Aquatics Academy.

HIGH SCHOOL (HS)• Pre-season HS Swim Team training is on Mondays and Fridays after school and on Saturday

mornings (September to November)• UNIS Hanoi HS Swimming is offi cially a 2nd season sport (November to January) with the

APAC Championship Swim Meet at the end of January. This year the APAC meet is in Seoul• HS Swim Team trains Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school and Saturday morning

during the season.• Post-season training is the same as Pre-season training.• Students who train during Pre-season and Post-season will be expected to attend swim meets

at UNIS Hanoi Hanoi and may also be invited to attend swim meets outside of Hanoi. • HS students who wish to improve their skills and/or learn new strokes or Water Polo are

welcome to join the swimming groups through After School Activities.

ENERGIZEAll UNIS Hanoi community members are eligible to become members of Energize. Membership provides the opportunity to use of the pool outside of School hours.
