    Pvt. John D. Jones was a member ofthe 39th MS Infantry, Sears Brigade,Frenchs Division. He was killed at Franklinand is buried in McGavock ConfederateCemetery, Mississippi section 23; plot#30.

    The 39th MS was in the Sears Brigade.Sears was behind Cockrells Brigade as thetwo French Division brigades assaulted theFederal line right at the center of theCarter Gin action.

    MississippiSoldiers, CSAJoseph Henry Mitchell enlisted in theJ.W. Thompson Invincibles in CompanyE of the 23rd MS Infantry. The picturebelow shows him in a brown uniformwith black chest braids which mayhave been influenced by the "Army ofMississippi" regulations. He is holdinga foot artillery sword and has a .44calColt Army revolver tucked into hisbelt, which is fastened with a US Armypattern 1834 general service clasp.
