Do I take college classes only with UCEC students?College classes are taken with the general student population, not just Early Collegestudents. The ages of students in college classes may range from 18 up to 50 plus.Students are not usually the only Early College student in a college class.
Why doesn’t UCEC have sports?UCEC is located on a college campus and shares space. The school does not have the facility to host school sports teams. Students are not able to participate in sports at nearby local high schools. Yet, there are students who participate in traveling orrecreational sports teams outside of school.
Is there a lot of homework?Students receive homework each night. Students will be required to complete a significant amount of homework at home and study for classes and tests. In the beginning homework can be challenging for ninth graders but becomes less challenging as better study skills are developed.
What about lunches?Lunch is brought over from a nearby school and served off a hot lunch cart. Microwaves are available to students. Students eat lunch in trailers and outside atpicnic tables.
What can I wear?Students do not have to wear uniforms. Students follow the standard UCPS dress code.
Can I leave if I don’t like the school? Students sign a contract to stay for the full ninth grade school year. It takes time to get adjusted to a new school and determine if UCEC is a good fit. If the school is not a good fit, students can withdraw and register with their home school only during the summer.
