The 2014 Union County Economic Development Strategy (EDS) outlines specific recommendations on how our community can improve its competitiveness and encourage business growth and development. With unprecedented changes occurring in the national and global economies, the diversification of our economy, refinement of workforce development policies, and expansion of the local tax base are critical to ensuring that our community continues to thrive and be self-sustaining.

Based upon the recommendations of the 2014 EDS, the Union County CIC has concentrated its economic development efforts on five primary components:

ATTRACT employers to Union County to diversify the economic base.

RETAIN and grow the economic base through outreach to existing businesses.

CREATE new businesses by leveraging local entrepreneurs.

ENHANCE civic infrastructure to support growth and strong communities.

SPECIAL PROJECTS that allow Union County to remain competitive.

The Union County – Marysville Economic Development Ecosystem

The 2014 Union County Economic Development Strategy (EDS) outlines specific recommendations on how our community can improve its competitiveness and encourage business growth and development. With unprecedented changes occurring in the national and global economies, the diversification of our economy, refinement of workforce development policies, and expansion of the local tax base are critical to ensuring that our community continues to thrive and be self-sustaining.

The Marysville-Union County Port Authority (MUCPA) is a statutory agent of Union County. Unlike a city or county, port authorities can buy land and construct a building that could be leased or sold to a business of its choosing at a privately negotiated price. They can also issue tax-exempt bonds on behalf of a private entity for the construction of new plant or equipment.

The CIC serves as the primary point of contact for companies looking to expand an existing business or relocate a new business to Union County and Marysville. The CIC works together with local, regional and state partners to ensure that the community attracts balanced and sustainable industrial, commercial and residential development.

The Union County Chamber of Commerce provides a forum and serves as the collective voice for business, government, and citizens of Union County. Through member services, small and large business assistance, community support and promotion, and business advocacy, the Chamber ensures business and community growth and development.

The Union County Convention & Tourism Bureau (CVB) recognizes the economic impact of tourism and works to improve that aspect of economic development for Union County and its various communities by promoting the development and marketing of Union County, focusing on bus tours, tourism asset marketing, and services.
