Identifying Parts of Sentences

Unidad5-Direct&IndirectObjectPronouns 2

• When there is both an and pronoun in a sentence, the IOP

comes first.

• Regular Sentences (Present tense, past tense, etc.):

•  Indirect and direct object pronouns come the conjugated verb in a regular

sentence.

Placement of Pronouns •  Infinitives & -ando/-iendo verbs:

•  Indirect and direct object pronouns may be of an infinitive or verb

ending in ‒ando • OR they can come the conjugated

verb. vas a pedir.

• Vas a ped r . estás pidiendo.

• Estás pidi ndo .

Placement of Pronouns

•  Infinitives & -ando/-iendo verbs: • You need to add an to the stressed

vowel. • For , add an accent when attaching

2 pronouns. If attaching 1 pronoun, no accent. • Vas a compr rmela vs Vas a comprarla • Vas a serv rmela vs Vas a servirla.

• For verbs add the accent whether using one or two pronouns.

• Estás compr ndolo & Estás sirvi ndomela

Placement of Pronouns • Commands:

• Object pronouns must be of affirmative command. With negative commands they must come the conjugated verb. Same for reflexive pronouns.

• Mézclelos. • No los mezcle. • Lávese las manos. • No se las lave.

• You need to add an to the stressed vowel.

Placement of Pronouns

ª You cannot have two “l” pronouns in a row. If this happens, the le or les will change to se. There is no plural of se, just se!

Example: le lo = se lo. les la = se la.

ª This is to avoid “tongue twisters”. (It is harder to say “les los” than “se los”).

ª Ejemplo: Yo pedí .

pedí. pedí.
