Proud Panther Teacher Spotlight

Meet this week’s Proud Panther, Ava Sanchez, a 3rd grader in Ms. Martinez’s class! *What do you like about your class? “She (Ms. Martinez) can be funny when she’s teaching.” *What’s your favorite time of the day? “I look forward to science. Sometimes we get to do experiments. One time we got to make slime!”

*What is the most important rule at our school? “Be respectful. People need respect. People, even teachers, would be treated badly if you weren’t respectful.” *What is your favorite thing about North Hills? “People from different cultures can come here. You can learn what people do in their religion and what their traditions are.” *Is there anything else you want us to know about you? “I can play piano. I have an Italian teacher. I started playing when I was 3 or 4 years old.”

Coach Stewart

I Teach: Primary PE Hometown: Texarkana, TX Teaching Motto: Teaching is the one profession that creates all other professions. What are three things you’d like our Panther families to know about you?

1. I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say, "Because of you, I didn't give up."

2. I "charge" admission for PE...a fist bump (soft) and a smile.

3. Some of my favorite things include purple, sparkles, and baby belly laughs!

IB Learner Profile Focus for October: Thinker

Students: We have been focusing on the Learner Profile trait “Thinker” all month as a whole school. It’s time to put your

thinking skills to work! If you’d like to participate in this month’s challenge, please submit your response to Mrs. Hills by Tuesday, November 3rd. Be sure to include your first and

last name, your teacher’s name, and your grade level. All students who participate will receive a special prize!

Spell a 6-letter word using the clues below!

1. The fourth letter in the mystery word is the first letter in the fourth month of the year.

2. The last letter is the second vowel in the alphabet. 3. The third letter is the first letter in a 3-letter color

word and a popular flower spelled with four letters. 4. The second letter is the middle letter of a word that

means the opposite of lose. 5. The fifth letter is the second letter that follows letter

#3 in the alphabet. 6. The first letter sounds like the name of a small,

round, green vegetable.

PYP Units of Inquiry: Specials Integration

Our 1st graders have been

studying their families’

personal histories during

their current PYP Unit. The

Central Idea is: People have

personal histories and

lineages that affect their

attitudes.

Ms. Montgomery, our

primary art teacher, has

been working with the

students to create their

family trees in art class.

Students are beginning

to understand their

family’s history and

how their family is

comprised.
