Presentation Outline

Who is the IOL?

• A neutral and independent lab that tests networking and data communications products for businesses across the globe.

• Started in 1988 on the University of New Hampshire Durham, NH campus.• Non-profit organization and 100% funded by commercial industry with over

150+ member companies.• State of the art facility with 28,000+ sq. ft. (1 hour outside Boston, USA).• 4,200 sq. feet of pre-wired space dedicated to Plugfests.

4

• We enable multivendor interoperability, conformance testing and develop custom testing solutions.

• Through our industry involvement we are able to provide guidance and insight into new technology areas with testing needs and certification for testing programs.

• Promote early adoption through collaborative group testing (Plugfests).• Offer members access to our world-class, multi-million dollar shared test

bed which continues to grow.• Funded 100% by commercial industry.

•SDN solutions have become integral to network deployments.oDirectly programmable networks are essential as

the complexity of networks grows.oAccording to one IDC forecast SDN Market will

be 12.5 billion by 2020.•SDN deployments need to support multi-vendors NEMs to match real world deployments.

8

State of SDN

•The new SDN consortium will offer the following:o Interoperability testing between switches and

controllers.oONF OpenFlow Conformance Switch

Certification.oBenchmarking Methodology for OpenFlow SDN

Controller.

9

SDN Consortium

•The UNH-IOL has one of the most extensive switch test beds in the world.o Allows for Controllers/Applications to perform

Interoperability testing with a large variety of switches.

•OpenDaylight, ONOS, and RYU based controllerso Switch vendors have easy access to multiple

controllers for regression testing purposes.o Applications have the ability to interact with multiple

controllers.

oduct•Developing Conformance testing for NetConfand RestConf using IOL INTACT.•Following standard development of Northbound APIs.

12

SDN Conformance

•IETF Benchmarking Draft testing. •ONF Benchmarking Test Specifications for Controllers.•UNH-IOL collaborates with both Spirent and IXIA for developing testing solution for multiple performance test to include scale and latency.

13

Performance Testing

•Extensive SDN equipment and experience of UNH-IOL can be consulted.•Consortium Members share the cost of the new SDN consortium.•UNH-IOL creates test cases for specific Applications in multi-vendor networks to prove Interoperability.

14

SDN Application Testing

•Internet of Things (IoT)oUNH-IOL collaborated with Service Provider to

prototype a SDN vCPE network.•SD WAN

oWorking with routers on replacing MPLS/T1 technology with SD Technology.

•NFVoThe UNH-IOL participates with OPNFV on the

plugfest planning.

SDN Use Cases

Training Future Engineers• More than 120 graduate and undergraduate student employees work with

our staff, gaining hands-on experience with developing technologies and products.

• Our student employees average a 99% job placement, often before they graduate.

• We provide career advancement opportunities including tech talks, training for common industry tools, networking events and an online resume binder.
