The 2019 Prize will recognize initiatives that leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and applications of neuroscience in AI to enhance learning, teaching, and the delivery and management of education. It also aims to ensure that the deployment of AI in education does not exacerbate digital divides, and everybody can reap the benefit of new technological developments.

Who can apply?

Individuals, institutions, non-governmental organizations or other entities.

The projects/programmes should be ongoing for at least 6 months and must:

• Be relevant to the specific theme of the year;

• Be innovative, specifically in the application of AI;

• Demonstrate measurable positive and sustainable impact on the lives of the targeted beneficiaries;

• Provide evidence for potential replicability and scalability.

How to apply?

• Create a user account at: www.unesco.org/ict-ed-prize/register

• Fill in the online application: www.unesco.org/ict-ed-prize

• All submissions should be done in English or French and nominated by 31 October 2019 (midnight, Paris time).

Who can nominate?

• Governments of the Member States of UNESCO, via their National Commissions, and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in official partnership with UNESCO can make up to 3 nominations.

• Self-nominations are not accepted.

It is my pleasure hereby to launch thé call for nominations for thé 2019 édition of théUNESCO King Hamad Bin l A -Khalifa Prize, under thé thème "Thé use fArtificialIntelligence to innovate éducation, learning and teaching".

Established in 2005, with thé flnancial support of thé Kingdom of Bahrain, thé Prizerewards projects that use information and communication technologies to enhanceteaching, learning and overall éducation performance.

This year's Prize focuses on leveraging Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence-powered solutions as well as applications of neuroscience in Artificial Intelligence toimprove learning outcomes and teaching méthodologies, to empowerteachers and toenhance thé delivery and management of éducation and éducation services. It alsoaims to ensure that thé deployment of Artificial Intelligence in éducation does notexacerbate digital divides, and everybody can reap thé benefits of new technologicaldevelopments.

Two prizewinners will be chosen based on thé recommendations of an internationaljury. Each will reçoive a monetary award (US $25,000) and a diploma.

Thé nomination process takes place via a dedicated online platform. Applicants canaccess thé application form by requesting thé création of a user account through thislink: www.unesco.or /ict-ed- rize/re ister.

l therefore wish to invite your Government, via thé National Commission for UNESCO,to submit up to three nominations forthis year's Prize.

UNESCO should receive thé online submission form, in English or French, by31 October 2019 at thé latest (UTC+1, Paris time).
