Underwriters Laboratories (UL)New LED Retrofit Kit Standard 1598C

All ThinkLite LED tubes are compliant with the new 1598C standard as published December 31, 2010

provided that they are installed in a UL listed fixture, by a certified electrician, in accordance to

manufacturer’s instructions.

UL1598C states that “retrofit devices or kits consist of parts and/or subassemblies intended for field

installation in UL Listed luminaires, office furnishing luminaires or portable luminaires. These products

have been investigated to determine that, when used in accordance with the manufacturer’s

instructions, they do not adversely affect the operation of the completed lighting unit.

This program also includes the LED retrofit kits intended to replace a fluorescent lamp and where it is

necessary to modify the luminaire. The modification may involve removing the fluorescent ballast and

rewiring lamp holders within the luminaire to provide direct power to the LED light source.”

A modified luminaire so that it can no longer accept the fluorescent lamp requires a label be affixed on

the fixture indicating the modification. ThinkLite ships all LED tubes with the following such label, as

authorized and required by UL, to ensure UL compliance with the fixture that has been properly

retrofitted with the TL LED Tube.
