THE ACADEMIC YEAR

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

ASSESSMENT

The Bachelor degrees at UOW are based on a credit point structure. One year of full-time study for most degrees requires

the completion of 48 credit points; 24 credit points in each of the two semesters (equivalent to 8 subjects).

Individual subjects are allocated a credit point value. Most subjects have a value of six or eight credit points each.

A common full-time course structure is the completion of eight subjects per year worth six credit points each.

In this course guide, we have listed the core subjects for the degree and, where available, major and elective subjects.

You should note that not all elective subjects are necessarily offered every semester at INTI.

Students are able to graduate with a single major or, in some instances, with a double major in their area of interest.

Students also have the option of selecting a major and minor combination in some degrees.

Individual subjects shown in the course structure may have their own prerequisites that must be satisfied before you can enrol

for that subject. The actual prerequisite may be another subject in the course, which means that you have to take subjects in a

particular sequence. Failure to meet a prerequisite or obtain a pass grade in a particular subject, may prevent a student from

completing the course within the minimum duration stated in this brochure. Subject descriptions, including prerequisite

information, can be obtained from the advisers, respective Deans, or by clicking your course of interest on the UOW

coursefinder (coursefinder.uow.edu.au).

All students intending to complete a double major or major-minor combination must consult with the relevant Dean prior

to enrolment to confirm availability of subjects.

Assessment is based on a combination of participation in class work, practical exercises, presentations, written assignments and

examinations. The weighting given to each assessment method varies between subjects: this information is shown in the online

subject descriptions and will be provided to you at the beginning of each subject you take.

The academic year is divided into two intakes:

March (March-July)

August (August-December)

“I chose UOW programme because

it is one of the highest performance

institution in the world. UOW has very

experienced lecturers and helpful staff.

The best bits about my course is that gave me the

opportunity to work with students from different

nationality in group works and enabled me to

understand their culture. In addition, experienced

lecturers delivered their lessons in different contexts

to gauge our interest and assist us to excel in every

individual units.

Thanks to the lecturers, staff and the Business

Talks conducted during college, I was accepted

into various MNC even before attending my final

examination.

My advice to the juniors is to set your own goals and

objectives and make sure you put in enough effort to

achieve them.“

DOONG YEE JIUN

Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing)

“I chose the UOW programme because

of UOW’s reputation and ranking as Top

2% in the world, and its dedicated and

qualified lecturers and staff.

The best bits about my course was my lecturers

whom challenged me to think out of the box and my

comfort zone and this helped me to develop myself.

Looking back, the experience in doing the projects

and assignments have definitely prepared me for my

current job.

My advice to the juniors is to look for a university that

believes in bringing the best out of their students.

Be prepared for a never ending journey of learning,

unlearning and relearning.“

AU YONG YI- WEN

Bachelor of Commerce (Management)

“I chose UOW programme as I was

interested in being becoming an

entrepreneur. I wanted to start my own

business in the future.

My challenges: Learning on how to communicate

with different people and time management. It was

difficult for me to balance both of my co-curricular

activities and studying time. Overall, it was worth it.

My advice to the juniors: Just be yourself and never

stop learning. Education is what remains after one

has forgotten what one has learned in school.

I would like to thank INTI for arranging the on-campus

interview with SONY, so I could secure a job before the

completion of my studies..“

“Having knowledge in computing helps

me even though my primary career

choice is something else. Having a

Computer Science Degree provides me

with a foundation of knowledge, problem solving and

logical thinking skills that will serve as a competitive

advantage to me in my career, and in whatever field that

I choose.

My advice to the juniors: Manage your study time

properly; for example, create a study schedule/

timetable/to do list/ when allocating time for each

subject and assessment. This can help to reduce the

pressure off and help you to decide how much time you

have for other activities.

The lecturers are very helpful & willing to guide us

whenever we have problems with the assessment /

subject’s theories.“

KEE YONG LEE

Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering)

“I chose UOW CS Programme because of

curiosity about technology, and my love of

programming.

The best bits about my course: Lots of hands on

practical work to strengthen your skills and friendly,

helpful and dedicated lecturers.

INTI provided a lot of opportunity for us to work with

other companies on Employer Projects, so we were

able to learn from these experiences – I learned how to

communicate with my clients, how to deal with them

and fulfill their requirements.

My advice to the juniors: work hard, study hard and play

hard.”

TEE JING YEN

Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering)

“I chose UOW programme as the subjects

in Computer Science are interesting and

challenging.

The best bits about my course was that it gave me

opportunity to understand and learn in-depth about

programming. Apart from that, I was also the first

president of UOW Society and the experiences helped

me in building my character and confidence.

Recalling the first interview session, it was really

tough going through the Q&A Session and a challenge.

With the firm fundamental logics and programming

knowledge gained during the course of study,

experiences in doing employer projects, and the soft

skills gained from the UOW Society. It gave me the

confidence to pull through the interview session

smoothly.

My advice to the juniors is “Time Management” and

“Passion”.

“IT has always been my passion for

learning as the world is revolving using IT

based technology. I was lucky enough to

be one of the pioneers to join this course

as it was just introduced in INTI.

The most memorable moment in this course was

the Industry based projects which required us to do

research and provide solutions for the challenges

faced by leading companies.

My advice to the juniors: Choose a course based on your

capabilities and also passion. Acquiring a degree in a

desired field is always better that completing a degree

in a given field. Passion leads to an interest which will

craft a stairway to success.“

JAGADHEESH RAJENDRAN

Bachelor of Information Technology (Network Design & Management)

“I chose UOW IT programme because of

my interest in networking and security

studies. UOW Program covers most of

the areas of knowledge that I need for

my career.

The challenges that I faced throughout my studies

were the overwhelming coursework and my strong will

to achieve distinctions in my subjects. These of course

could be overcome by proper time management.

INTI has good relationships with the Industry. Students

get to do Employer Projects within the course, and

attend talks, seminars and workshops by reputable

industry partners. These experiences are really useful

for my career. I would like to thank INTI for the quality

education.”

CHEONG CHOON YIN

Bachelor of Information Technology (Network Design & Management)

“I chose UOW IT course because of my

interest in learning new technologies

in the area of hardware, software and

networking.

Throughout my studies, I have faced many challenges

especially when dealing with projects and assignments.

However, I have also learned a lot especially in project

management skills such as time management,

especially when dealing with Employer projects.

My advice to the juniors: Learn and absorb as much

knowledge as you can from your lecturers. Don’t feel

shy to ask everything that you do not understand as it

may help you in your future undertakings.”
