INTRODUCTION

• Depleting oil reserves along with increasing energy consumption significantly increase the need for exploration and production in deepwater and ultra-deepwater discoveries.

• Need of great planning to complete build of FPSO along with reduction of time completion.

• Challenging in planning FPSO fabrication due to the complexity of the processes and systems.

• These project management tools such as PERT and CPM are not capable of planning the project that involves looping activities.

• Therefore, applying Dependency Structure Matrix (DSM) is the solution to address complexity and interdependency of fabrication process.

LITERATURE REVIEW

FPSO vessel is designed to receive oil or gas produced from nearby

platforms or subsea template, process it, and store it until oil or gas can be

offloaded onto a shuttle tanker or transported through a pipeline said

According to Professor Don Steward (1981), DSM method used to build an effective engineering plan, showing where estimates are to be used, how to handle design iterations and review, and how information flows during the design work [2].

DSMs have been developed for planning and managing projects in the building construction, photographic, semiconductor, automotive, aerospace, telecom, and electronics industries said Yassine et al., (2005) [8].

Researcher has determined DSM is powerful management tool to plan sequence activity by feedback present and can manage the exchange

because of the repetition of construction and the cycle-time for the completion.

What is Dependency Structure Matrix (DSM) all about? :

DSM is known as design structure matrix, dependency source matrix, and dependency structure method.

A DSM also can be define as square matrix that have equal number of rows and columns (m x n).

PARTITIONING OF DSM

DSM Partitioning Analysis:

Partitioning is the sequencing or reordering of the rows and columns of DSM with new arrangement which does not have feedback and looping mark at the below diagonal

The mark below diagonal is transformed into the above diagonal

Process eliminate the feedback and looping marks to move as close as the diagonal
