CASE STUDY CSO ALLIANCE

#STMME18 www.seatrademaritimeevents.com/stmme

An expanding, global members-only risk management platform for maritime, port and oil and gas.

The problemThe international maritime sector is facing a constantly evolving and diverse threat. Piracy continues to threaten safe passage of our ships in several high-risk areas. Terrorism is an ongoing concern in the Southern Red Sea, while organised criminality is increasingly sophisticated. Today’s cyber threat is dynamic, with up to four hundred thousand malicious files detected daily and growing, while there are 1 Trillion items of malware estimated to be in existence.

We can all see the increasing costs of not being proactive in our risk management approach. Since January 2013 to September 2018 CSO Alliance has recorded 1203 successful ship boardings,

criminals have a 58% success rate on ships they target and these successful boardings impact on an estimated 24,000 seafarers. An enduring example of maritime crime is stowaways. Between 2007 to 2015 the IMO GISIS received 865 stowaway reports. Reliable data estimates 5,000 incidents at a $90 million cost impacting on a potential 100,000 seafarers. We have worked with the Marshal Island Registry to ensure the IMO stowaway report form has been revised to reflect ‘Berth and Location’. Such changes enable improved analytics and dialogue with Port Security Officers and Port Facility Security Officers.

ObstaclesWe are a complex, fragmented and diverse group of critical industries that are essential to the global supply chain. We ship nearly 90% of the world’s trade ensuring food and energy security

of almost 1.2 billion tons of oil and gas per annum. Security officers face unique challenges protecting ships, valuable cargoes, crews and ports in a timely, reliable and efficient way, operating under tight financial constraints.

The SolutionCSO Alliance offers strength in ‘Security through Community’ by providing a secure platform for maritime, port and oil & gas security officers that facilitates incident reporting and analysis, as well as providing an expanding collaborative environment. We are a one-stop-shop for a cost effective, threat-informed, risk-based approach to maritime security.

How did you hear about Seatrade Maritime Middle East? The CSO Alliance and Maritime Cyber Alliance were highly commended at the London Seatrade Awards and the driver for involvement was to showcase the support of Chenega International in forming the Port Facility Security Officer Alliance. I have been travelling to the Middle East for 25 years so have seen the Seatrade events evolve and have also participated as an exhibitor. We could see the benefits of meeting our members and prospective CSOs, PFSOs and Cyber responsible employees in an informal atmosphere, as well as running the workshops.

Why did you choose to sponsor Seatrade Maritime Middle East?It is a major maritime regional event so we have been able to invite lots of our business associates to come and meet with us and join our presentation and debate on the ‘Maritime and Cyber security threat and how to mitigate against them’ on 30th October starting at 12.30, it will be interactive and run for 45 mins with a question and answer session at the end.  The ability to let everyone know we are in Dubai and available for three days gives us an excellent opportunity to update them on recent developments and listen to feedback to help shape the

CSO Alliance and Maritime Cyber Alliance new PFSO Alliance.

What are your business objectives for the year and how does exhibiting support these?

A key delivery is to ensure that Ship Owner CSOs, their crews at sea and PFSOs report all maritime crime which we can analyse and share online with members in real time. Our community can work as one to combat organised maritime criminals, who we have tracked in 85 countries since January 2013. The new PFSO Alliance will be ready towards the end of the year and we can work on the security process efficiencies between the security officers and crews in whichever sector or critical infrastructure they are responsible for.

How have recent developments in cybersecurity impacted the maritime industry?

The recent BIMCO/Fairplay Cyber report showed some improvements in investment, education and defence, but the industry as a whole will be punished until we are all on the front foot. We face well resourced and motivated criminal cyber activists who, when they discover a weakness, quickly sell and share ideas and information to monetise crime. Hence the rapid reporting and sharing of cyber crime via the maritime Cyber

Alliance servers benefits the entire community. The IMO initiative to ensure cyber evolves as part of ISM is an important step forward and the deadlines will soon arrive.

Are you currently facing any industry challenges?

There is a concerning lack of maritime crime reporting, particularly in West Africa, as agencies such as the IMB have noted. Our cyber crime reporting servers based in Iceland assure anonymity and we have reports direct from ships crew, brokers, ports and owners as we share incident data and the best practice emerges. Not all owners or ports are on the same page or have access to the same levels of funding their security and that is where we deliver global verified incident reporting and analysis, combined with a cost effective collaborative environment to support the evolution of best practice.

What would you like to say to your target audience at Seatrade Maritime Middle East?

Come and visit us and join the workshops, send your CSO, PFSO or CISO and let them become part of a global collaborative membership at competitive fees so that our industry can, in real-time, work as one to report and combat organised maritime criminal activity. n

CASE STUDY HEISCO

#STMME18 www.seatrademaritimeevents.com/stmme

How did you hear about Seatrade Maritime Middle East? We have been a strong participant, exhibitor and supporter of this important event since 2011. As one of the only ship repair facilities in the northern Gulf, we consider that we can offer an important service to vessel operators, both regional and international, who are active in the region.

Why did you choose to exhibit at Seatrade Maritime Middle East? We have found consistently that this is a great opportunity to meet existing and potential clients both from within our region, and from other parts of the world. We have also found a diversified mix of participants who fit well into our target markets. Although the offshore sector has been under pressure over the last four years or so, other markets including workboats of many different types are growing rapidly in number as the region’s maritime base continues to expand. Port developments and infrastructural projects, notably in Kuwait but also across the Gulf region generally, are generating new demand for service and support vessels and, of course, the repair and maintenance services that we provide.

What are your business objectives for the year and how does exhibiting support these? Our business objectives remain constant. We have a continuous programme aimed at improving quality, raising productivity and making the most of our resources, notably our first-class and loyal labour force and our ship repair infrastructure. We also wish to demonstrate to clients our unwavering pursuit of environmental sustainability. Recent initiatives have included the

upgrade of various facilities within our shipyard and we have recently announced plans to upgrade our workshops in a two-phase programme. They will be refurbished both externally and internally and will become fully enclosed with air temperature control and a clean working environment. This will provide a significantly better working environment for our personnel, particularly in the hottest months of the year, and we hope that this significant investment will also appeal to existing and potential clients through improved productivity.

What are your views on the current climate for ship building, ship management and the oil and gas industry? We are now ten years on from the financial crisis which hit the global shipbuilding and ship repair sectors very hard. Although it rebounded to some extent in the following few years, the oil price collapse of 2014 has had a far-reaching impact. Now, though, we see firmer oil prices and the first signs of renewed confidence in the offshore sector. This is evident from an easing of the tight constraints on exploration and production budgets which, in due course, will filter down to offshore contractors and demand for the assets which they require. This, in turn, will have a positive impact on national budgets and government investments across the region.

Are you currently facing any industry challenges? The ship repair sector across the region has been under serious pressure, largely as a result of the offshore downturn. This has had a direct impact through the idling and laying up of offshore support vessels, but also indirectly with

an impact on national budgets. This has led to a slowdown in some civil and marine engineering projects which create a knock-on demand for marine assets. As a result, we have noticed that many clients have focused on minimising work scopes and leaving out any non-essential maintenance items. This has inevitably had an adverse effect on our business. Having said that, our diversified client base, including ongoing support and maintenance for the Kuwaiti and United States’ armies, ensures that demand for our services is less volatile than for some other ship repair companies within the region.

What would you like to say to your target audience at Seatrade Maritime Middle East? We hope to be able to keep existing customers abreast of latest developments at our shipyard. We also aim to make new contacts amongst vessel operators who may require regional ship repair and related services. We have first-class testimonials from a range of prominent customers, including very positive comments from representatives in the US Army, one of our most important customers. We have a long-term service and support agreement to ensure that the assets which are based in the region are maintained to the very highest standards and ready to be deployed at short notice. This attention to detail has an inevitable knock-on effect in our commercial vessel activities, a feature that has been noted by a number of our non-naval clients.n

We have been progressing according to schedule since we broke ground prior to our 2014 opening, and this year, 2018, will be a milestone year for us at King Abdullah Port. In Q4 of this year, for instance, our long-awaited RO/RO terminal – with its 600,000-vehicle capacity – will open for business and make King Abdullah Port one of the leading entry points for cars in the Kingdom. In support of this new and very important addition to King Abdullah Port we have signed a JV with NYK Auto Logistics. Also, in Q4 of this year, we will give a boost to developing the port into a major export hub, when we open the dedicated bulk terminal to accommodate the Kingdom’s new push for exports as now we have started softly our export operations. Already, the Kingdom has begun to export steel and cement, so we have to continue to develop and grow as those activities increase. But we must do more than just increase capacity. We must work to bring down logistics costs, also.

How do you assess your recent results and how do they fit into the Saudi Vision 2030?

The establishment of King Abdullah Port addresses the fact that the Kingdom is underserved, and because of that, the potential for growth is extremely favorable. Our yearly growth in container capacity has been impressive. We are currently the eighth fastest growing port in the world. In 2017, for example, we saw an increase of 21% in container volume, from 1.4 million TEU to 1.69 million TEU. Prior to the opening of King Abdullah Port, total movement of containers in Saudi Arabia was only about 14 million TEU and some 30% was sourced from beyond our borders. With King Abdullah Port up-and-running and the input of a few other ports in the country, that gap was erased. And the future has still more growth in store. We are already at 50% growth YoY as of June of this year and our physical plant was built to accommodate the largest vessels on the seas today and those that will come later. We have a tremendous amount of momentum, right now, and that will continue as we grow physically and continue to offer state-of-the-art support services for those ships that call on King Abdullah Port.

What would you say to those looking to meet with you at the event?

We are very proud of our progress and the current state of affairs, but we are driven by our focus on the future and how all stakeholders can profit from the benefits afforded by King Abdullah Port. That means that we want to talk with all interested parties and discuss how we can best join forces for a mutually profitable future. Not only do we have a full spectrum of services available, we also have personnel with whom our partners can consult to ensure they make the right decisions to achieve success at the port. We want to help you as much as we possibly can.

What does the future look like for the industry?

We can see that the industry is going into a rapid change on all levels and this is a must these days in order to coop with the increasing demands of services. This will lead into new dynamics that will unlock potential opportunities for us and other logistics services providers. Change is a must now.

What does the future look like for the industry?

Looking to the future, we will continue to work closely with our clients to deliver the high standards of safe implementation and compliance they have come to expect from LR, especially in the context of the increasingly complex regulatory framework. Continuing the recent trend, the forthcoming regulatory requirements which will have the greatest impact are in the environmental field.

Following the agreement at MEPC 71 (Marine Environmental Protection Committee) to amend the Ballast Water Management Convention to implement a new schedule for the installation of ballast water treatment systems on existing ships, there is arguably a greater need for support from classification societies.

This is not only support in terms of the technical complexities of compliance and type approval of systems but also in terms of navigating the updated and complicated implementation schedule. Similarly, the requirement to reduce the maximum sulphur content of fuel to 0.50% by 2020 will require technological solutions and investment to ensure compliance. LR is well placed to support our clients develop a strategic plan in response to these regulations which increasingly require a balanced commercial and technical view. The continued investment in technology and people remains a priority for LR. Given the pace of technology change, we must consider all options when assessing innovative ways to address the industry’s challenges, enabling our clients to make their decisions based on the best technical insight and adopt solutions in a safe and sustainable manner. What is the future impact of digitalisation in maritime? LR aims to become a leader in supporting our clients through digital transformation, building a portfolio of investments and partnerships to tackle the challenges and opportunities of Industry 4.0 within the marine and offshore sector.Last year Rolls-Royce and Svitzer successfully demonstrated the world’s first remotely operated commercial vessel in Copenhagen, with assurance provided by LR

against our cyber-enabled ShipRight procedure. We will continue to work with the industry to make autonomous shipping a practical reality. In addition to launching our cyber secure and marine & offshore analytics services last year, we entered into a strategic partnership agreement with QiO to help transform how the marine and offshore industry uses big-data analytics to improve operational effectiveness and reduce risk. We have also invested in ship management software provider Hanseaticsoft and acquired Seasafe – a software provider that specialises in powerful statutory compliance tools for design, operation and cargo planning. This followed on from the acquisition of RTAMO – a company that specialises in real-time adaptive maintenance optimisation software. One of the key challenges associated with increased automation and digitisation is the vulnerability to cyber-attack, and as the industry continues to invest in digital systems the risk will only increase. LR is here to ensure that novel technologies are applied to shipping safely, meaning that new novel ships are considered as safe as they would be without this technology. What will be the impact of digitalisation on Seafarers? The industry is currently abuzz with talk of digitalisation and automation and how technology will impact the business of shipping. It is now more important than ever that we don’t forget those who are very much still

at the frontline of our industry. Their roles may be evolving but we still rely on the 1.6 million seafarers to keep our industry moving. Innovation and technology should make their jobs safer, easier and more efficient but it shouldn’t make them more invisible. Have you any tips for anyone looking to exhibit this year? The Middle East is a great place to showcase your latest, greatest and best developments. Take your time to arrange meetings and set realistic business expectations for both your time in Dubai and during the exhibition. n

CASE STUDY NICO INTERNATIONAL

#STMME18 www.seatrademaritimeevents.com/stmme

Can you give us a really good example of how NICO can go to clients anywhere to facilitate urgent ship repair globally. Could you give us an overview of a situation like this that you have quickly and effectively responded to?

Its maritime service, since 1973, has burgeoned into what NICO International stands for today. With a sturdy backbone of expertise and experience, NICO International’s future vision is “to be the leader in the global marine market.” Within that ineradicable framework, NICO International comes with the promise of being the preferred choice for maritime services for the global marine industry.

With its highly skilled workforce, of around 1200 from as many as 27 countries, who are regularly updated on the new technology trends through internal training and through its marine principal provided training, NICO International is in a position to offer most advanced products and services to

reduce downtime and increased efficiency of ships at sea. With its worldwide network and on-call emergency ship repair squad, customers are assured that a team of specialist is always available. It’s highly rated and trained ‘riding crews’ have an excellent eminence amongst the world’s leading ship owners and operators.

NICO International continuously ensures that it remains aware of emerging trends in the market. Mr. Prakash Kumar – GM states - “We monitor vessel movements and ascertain where it is that vessels are entering our region from. There is certainly a strong trend developing in the scale of Chinese and Taiwanese vessels now moving through this area. To this end, we have begun to market NICO International more prominently within these countries.

The monitoring process is a continuous focus of the business – we monitor every week where vessels are predominantly entering

the region from, and should we observe that an area or region is becoming predominant, we ensure our representatives are sent out to raise awareness of NICO International.”

Due to the emphasis demonstrated by NICO International on afloat repair work, the company also engages in such tracking to ensure that it is prepared for what is otherwise an unplanned manner of operation. “Even for areas in which we have established networks, we need to maintain knowledge of when vessels are expected to arrive in the region,” Mr Kumar expands “To this end, tracking is very beneficial to the company.

Because NICO International has a history spanning over 45 years, we can demonstrate a great deal of knowledge regarding our customers – so we are very proactive in communicating with vessels and enquiring if there is any work to be performed. This also ensures that we can schedule ourselves accordingly.”

CASE STUDY REACH & RESCUE

#STMME18 www.seatrademaritimeevents.com/stmme

When firefighters realised they were missing a vital component in their water rescue procedure, they needed an innovative solution. Rather than turning to safety gear experts, it was the manufacturing industry that they asked for help. As such, Reach and Rescue have created an innovative and revolutionary lifesaving invention.

The business designs and manufactures the longest, most versatile and successful rescue pole system in the world. The Reach and rescue Pole is UK manufactured and is used by 80% of the UK fire service and is sold in over 43 countries.

The rescue system has been rigorously tried and tested, and has saved lives both human and animal, whilst keeping the operator out of hazard zones. The pole itself can be extended to an unmatched length of 17 metres and can be deployed

to the casualty with directional accuracy in just 20 seconds. The rigid, carbon fibre construction of the pole allows the operator to deploy regardless of the weather or general conditions.

Reach and Rescue have a wide and comprehensive range of tool attachments, enabling this versatile pole to be converted into whichever tool may be necessary according to the scenario and location.

It is simple to use and civilians can use it to perform a rescue while waiting for emergency services to arrive, speeding up the rescue and saving lives.

CASE STUDY REACH & RESCUE

#STMME18 www.seatrademaritimeevents.com/stmme

How did you hear about Seatrade Maritime Middle East?

Exhibiting our unique product is a major part of our business strategy and as such, having exhibited at other UBM Group events, we heard of Seatrade Maritime Middle East.

Why did you choose to exhibit at Seatrade Maritime Middle East?

Reach and Rescue are looking to export to the Middle East and the wider region with our ground breaking, innovative products. We want distributors to see and touch this unique, UK manufactured, state of the art, quality rescue kits.

We believe that Seatrade Maritime Middle East is the perfect maritime exhibition for Reach and Rescue and we are excited to be involved and build our presence in the Middle East. Attending the event will raise awareness of both our business and our products.

What are your business objectives for the year and how does exhibiting support these?

Our business objectives for the year are to further increase the exporting of our products, through new distributors and partners, and further expanding our network throughout the Middle East and the wider region. As innovators, we are keen to speak to customers in the Middle East to establish if there are more products we can add to the current range.

What are your views on the current climate for ship building, ship management and the oil and gas industry?

As the industry is rapidly growing, we believe there is an ever increasing need for more adoption of these Man Overboard systems in this industry that can be as long reaching, quick and accurate as the Reach and Rescue pole system.

With more people on boats and increased working on or near water activities creates an even greater risk for a Man Overboard situation for which appropriate methods of recovery need to be put in place. The focus should be on safety and saving lives now and into the future.

Are you currently facing any industry challenges?

We believe that legislation should be changed so that the industry should have, by law, a longer reach and more accurate tool for carrying out rescues.

The focus should be on safety and saving lives now and into the future. Reach and Rescue’s products and business ethos is to save lives and any legislation that is introduced to help this would be welcomed.

We constantly listen to the feedback of our customers and develop our life saving products to meet the users demands.

What would you like to say to your target audience at Seatrade Maritime Middle East?

We are excited to welcome you to our booth and to demonstrate to you our unique rescue products, manufactured in the UK, ensuring quality which is of the utmost importance. Our stand will be equipped with all our latest innovations, so please come along and meet us! n

How did you hear about Seatrade Maritime Middle East?In 2016, Seatrade Maritime Middle East was Scandia’s first choice for exhibiting in the Middle East. The event is an exceptional platform for interacting with clients, potential clients and showcasing our extensive range of safety apparel and PPE.We have been in this business going on 45 years. Our approach to product development is heavily invested in anticipating the changing needs of our clients’ workforces. While we are in constant contact with those wearing and using what we make, it is in our and, ultimately, our clients’ best interests to meet face-to-face at trade shows and conventions, whether we are guests or exhibitors, with those whose operations depend on what we make. Why did you choose to exhibit at Seatrade Maritime Middle East?Since our first exhibition at the event in 2016 we have taken the decision to open a Scandia branch in Dubai toward the end of 2018, to increase our operational presence for clients in the Gulf, Africa, and the Indian subcontinent. Understandably, the event has taken on even greater significance for us.     Seatrade Maritime Middle East is a premier maritime exhibition and we are thrilled to be involved again and to build on our presence in the Gulf region. What are your business objectives for the year and how does exhibiting support these? In preparation for our Dubai opening later this year, we are

optimising our logistics and supply chains company-wide. We are preparing for a seamless transition, integrating existing clients’ interests and requirements through the Dubai offices and warehouse, and further expanding our network throughout the Gulf and the wider region. Attending the event will raise awareness of our movement into the region later this year. What are your views on the current climate for ship building, ship management and the oil and gas industry? Due to the increasing need for a more sustainable way of doing business, these sectors are facing a major change. Integrating sustainable and eco-friendly processes into our global supply chain has brought challenges though with them, greater efficiency. These are critical steps for our industry, business, and planet. Are you currently facing any industry challenges?Given the breadth of our operations, our challenges are, essentially, the industry’s challenges. Even with

the rapid changes to the industry, safety, specifically the prevention of long term injuries (LTIs), remains a principal concern. Through research and frequent contact with clients and their workforces, our product development team has outfitted crews for work at ever-greater extremes. We need to keep up with the ‘developments outside’, actually we need to stay ahead. What would you like to say to your target audience at Seatrade Maritime Middle East?We look forward to welcoming you to our revamped event stand, to showing you our newest line of workwear and our beautifully made hearing protection series, and, of course, to telling you more about the opening of Scandia Dubai.
