I N T E G R A T I O N

Prior to shipping your custom-manufactured Howard Medical cart, you have the option of selecting how much or how little you want us to do in preparing your carts for rollout to your caregivers. This is an important decision, since getting just one standard cart properly integrated can take your staff as long as 2 hours depending on the integration options you select.

To help you decide, we’ve highlighted our offerings along with some of the ad-vantages and disadvantages of each.

IN-FACTORY INTEGRATION Howard Medical prepares your cart so that when it leaves our factory it’s virtually ready to use right away. We take care of everything on the front end, which significantly reduces the setup time in preparing your rollout. In many cases, you simply pop in your comput-ing device and monitor, and your carts are good-to-go.

MSRP: $100/cart*

ON-SITE SETUP & INTEGRATION We know that healthcare facilities are comfortable in the knowl-edge that Howard Medical has the right people on the job. As part of our On-site Setup & Integration option, we send our help-ful, knowledgeable staff to prepare your carts for use, which in-cludes testing the carts and training your staff. In short, we pro-vide you with the benefit of years of experience in making sure that your rollout is a complete success for both the facility and the patient. The advantage of this option is our experience and attention to detail. We take care of the little things

that so many others often overlook during a rollout, such as integration time, proper tools, appropriate cart placement, and the removal of old equipment and trash. These are just a few typical examples of cost and inconvenience that a Howard Medical setup can help you avoid.

BATTERY INVENTORY PROGRAM

FACT No matter what you’ve been told by other manufacturers, the single largest point of failure in all cart brands is the battery. FACT If maintained properly, the average battery can withstand one year of heavy-duty run time. That’s why Howard Medical allows you to budget now for future needs. One of the major advantages of the Howard Medical sealed, lead acid, glass-matte battery is its extremely low cost. FACT As you’ve probably seen by now, other manufacturers’ batteries can range from $400-$900 EACH! Howard Medical battery technology has a very low price point, is highly reliable, and has been proven to work while significantly reducing the risk of overheating. Participating in the Howard Medi-cal Battery Inventory Program makes sound business sense.

Howard Medical recommends that all customers who purchase a significant number of carts consider the total cost of ownership for these essential devices.

The table below indicates the typical number of resource-hours required for a typical hospital staff member to complete a full PM and BRM. Keep in mind that this does not include any time alloted to find and/or make a repair to the cart, or computing device, or the time it takes to integrate an accessory into the cart.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE & BATTERY REPLACEMENT/MANAGEMENTThere are several things to consider before your carts arrive. It’s true that your battery should last up to one year if maintained properly, but since batteries are a consumable item, what’s your strategy to have them replaced when they fail? Will you have budgeted properly for them? Do you have the human resources to swap them out? What will you do with the old batteries, which have lead content? These are all important questions that need to be addressed toset a plan in motion; however, if you feel you need additionalassistance — we are here, just ask. Another real-world fact isthat all carts occasionally need what we call Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Battery Replacement/Management

(BRM) to make certain they remain fully serviceable when patient care calls. We’ve assembled a 40-point PM checklist that covers everything including the cart, power supply, computing device, and peripherals, to ensure your carts remain in optimal condition. Anything we find during our PM that is covered under warranty and requires repair will be taken care of while we’re on-site. If the item happens not to be covered under warranty, we’ll let you know so that you can make arrangements for repairs. When we’ve completed our PM, we’ll provide you with a report on each cart detailing the issues we’ve addressed, as well as some recommendations for keeping your carts running at peak performance.

We commonly refer to this as the “man in the van plan.”

Simply put, this is an investment in the future of your

project. After all, potential expansion may require the

addition of hundreds of new pieces of equipment on-

site without the addition of new employees, and without

draining available employee resources to maintain it. Our

Mobile Product Specialists (MPS) provide large multi-

facility medical entities with the reassurance that there

will be minimal downtime associated with the carts, and

ease their minds with the knowledge that if a cart ever

does require repairs, it will be done as quickly and as

thoroughly as possible by a skilled Howard MPS. Making

use of our MPS program is just good business, because in

the long run it will save you money. Listed below are just a

few related tasks involved in the cart repair process. And,

when you add up all of the costs that could be associated

with just one “trouble” call on a cart, it’s easy to see what

a tremendous negative impact it could have on your

budget. Taking this into consideration, along with other

factors, will enable you to most accurately determine the

total cost of ownership.

1. Opening a ticket.

2. Taking the cart down to a work area.

3. Diagnosing the problem.

4. Finding out what parts need to be ordered.

5. Ordering the parts.

6. Cart downtime waiting for the parts to arrive on-site.

7. Getting the part once it arrives on-site.

8. Disassembling the cart.

9. Taking off the non-functioning part.

10. Putting on the new part.

11. Reassembling the cart.

12. Testing the cart.

13. Sending the old part back to Howard Medical.

14. Taking the cart back to the unit.

15. Closing out the ticket.

Assuming that all of the above steps were done right the first time, and that there were no further complications like

back-ordered or lost parts, you can see how one simple repair could become very time consuming and put significant

constraints on your staff, making it quite costly to your medical facility. That’s the very reason we designed this program.

We saw customers faced with spending time and resources on something other than patient care and we recognized a

need. As a result, we are proud to say that our MPS program has been implemented by some of the most renowned

medical centers in the country.
