The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is the only multilateral environmental agreement addressing land issues
Governing bodies: COP (every 2 years) CRIC (every year) CST (every 2 years + special sessions)
Institutions: Secretariat Global Mechanism
193 country Parties and one regional integration organization (EU), among which 150 affected countries
Two obligations: Establish and implement NAP Report regularly to the
COP

1. Land cover status

SubjectAssessment of implementation (3)The CST, using an
iterative process, is to refine the set of impact indicators: Application and review of
the impact indicators by affected countries;
Scientific peer review of the relevance, accuracy and cost-effectiveness of the impact indicators;
Possible synergy with relevant programmes, projects and institutions, including those associated with the other Rio conventions;
Relevant contributions from UNCCD scientific conferences.

Catalytic funding to partially compensate developing countries for the preparation of national reports
