Amid scandal, Joseph Blatter elected to fourth term at the helm of FIFA

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND – The Federation Internationale of Football Association (FIFA) Congress reelected President Joseph Blatter to a fourth term, amidst a corruption scandal.

Blatter faces charges that there was bribery and corruption involved in the selection of the sites for upcoming World Cup tournaments.

He was reelected for a four-year term during a voting session that took place June 1. The 75-year-old Swiss man has been at the helm of FIFA since 1998.

Blatter ran unopposed, after Qatar soccer executive Mohamed bin Hammam withdrew from the race during the weekend and was suspended after he was accused of bribing members of the Caribbean delegation to vote for him.

Germany, a founding member of FIFA, has requested a review of the voting session held last December, when Qatar was awarded the 2022 World Cup, to investigate allegations of corruption.

Meanwhile, the delegation from England, through its director David Bernstein, requested that the presidential elections be postponed for several months, to allow corruption accusations to be investigated, saying that “a coronation without an opponent provides a flawed mandate.”

However, 172 of the 208 delegations rejected England’s request and the elections continued as planned.

Blatter promised drastic changes to put an end to all the scandals and promised to allow the 208 national federations vote to select upcoming World Cup host sites, instead of

allowing only the executive committee to decide, Members of the executive committee have been involved in corruption allegations.

Before the elections Blatter addressed congress attendants, saying that “The FIFA ship is in troubled waters but this ship must be brought back on the right track,” he said. “I am the captain of the ship. It is therefore my duty and responsibility to see to it that we get back on track.”

In his speech, Blatter said that the changes have to be made and that they must be deep, not only superficial changes. He also promised zero tolerance.

“Zero tolerance is for everybody”, he said. “It is not only a wish of me. It is a will. I have to do it.”

AccusationsSince the early days of his tenure, Blatter has faced charges

of corruptions or mishandling of situations.In 2002 then general secretary Michel Zen-Ruffinen

said Blatter’s victory in 1998 had been based in bribes and corruption. However, Blatter won his reelection and Zen-Ruffinen was relieved from his duties.

More recently, the last six months have been turbulent.The most recent problems came out in 2010, when the

elections were held to determine World Cup host sites. Russia won over England and joint proposals from Belgium-Netherlands and Spain-Portugal for 2018, while Qatar was awarded the World Cup in 2022, leaving behind Australia, Japan, South Korea and the United States.

Qatar’s victory was clouded by charges that the middle-east

country had paid bribes to get votes.Blatter said there was no evidence that executive committee

members Issa Jayatou and Jacques Anouma had received money to vote for Qatar as host site in 2022.

Two other executive committee members were dismissed from the organization after they accepted to undercover reporters that they would sell their votes to benefit Qatar.

Executive committee members are selected by their own federations and are not selected within FIFA. The executive committee is formed by 24 people.

Last weekend CONCACAF President Jack Warner made public an e-mail in which FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke wondered if Mohamed bin Hammam, who wanted to run against Blatter for president of the organization, thought he could buy the presidency the same way he “had bought” the World Cup.

Qatar immediately denied the charges and Valcke said the only was thinking about Qatar’s financial muscle, something that would allow them to put together an effective lobbying campaign.

Meanwhile, Bin Hammam told the BBC “you would have to ask Jerome Valcke what he was thinking. If I was paying money from Qatar you would also have to ask the 13 people who voted for Qatar.”

Bin Hammam was suspended along with Warner under charges that bin Hammam had paid Caribbean delegates $40,000 to vote for him and against Blatter at the June 1 elections.

Blatter enfrenta acusaciones de que hubo corrupción en la elección de las sedes para los próximos mundiales de futbol.

Fue reelegido a un periodo de cuatro años durante la votación realizada el 1 de junio. El ejecutivo suizo de 75 años ha estado a la cabeza de FIFA desde 1998.

El ejecutivo no tuvo contrincante en la votación, después de que el ejecutivo de Qatar Mohamed bin Hammam se retirara de la contienda el fin de semana y fuera suspendido después de que surgieran alegatos de que él había sobornado a miembros de la delegación del Caribe para que votaran por él para el puesto directivo.

Un Ciudadano o residente permanente de los Estados Unidos puede llenar una petición I-130 ante el Servicio de Inmigración y Ciudadanía (USCIS, por sus siglas en inglés) para establecer la existencia de una relación con ciertos familiares que residen en el extranjero y quieren inmigrar a los Estados Unidos.

Existe un número límite de personas que pueden inmigrar a los Estados Unidos, por lo tanto, hermanos o hermanas de ciudadanos estadounidenses que están pidiendo a sus familiares, hermanos y hermanas de México, enfrentan una espera de muchos años.

Actualmente hay visas disponibles para hermanos y hermanas que hicieron peticiones el 15 de febrero de 1996 o antes.

Esas personas han esperado más de 15 años para que sus familiares puedan inmigrar a los Estados Unidos.

Cuando la petición está actualizada y hay una visa disponible, uno de los beneficios para el hermano o hermana que está inmigrando a los Estados Unidos es que su esposo o esposa y sus hijos solteros menores de 21 años de edad también van a

poder inmigrar con ellos.Ha habido algunos debates sobre

si, por ejemplo, un hijo de 17 años se casa , y después ese hijo se divorcia o el matrimonio se anula, si ese hijo todavía tiene menos de 21 años, ¿puede inmigrar con su madre o su padre?

Hace unos años se aprobó una ley, El Acta de Protección de Ciudadanía Infantil, que establece una garantía de que la edad del niño se congela cuando la petición está disponible.

Cuando una visa estaba disponible la edad del niño no estaba determinada por la fecha de la petición o de cuando la petición fue aprobada. La edad del niño se determinaba cuando había una visa disponible. Como sabemos, para hermanos y hermanas de México existe una espera de 15 años.

El servicio de inmigración está trabajando en peticiones sometidas el 8 de marzo del año 2000 o antes para hermanos y hermanas de otros países de Centroamérica. La categoría de hermanos o hermanos que tiene más retraso es

la de Filipinas: están trabajando en peticiones que fueron sometidas en abril de 1988.

Por lo tanto, en el futuro cuando su petición esté actualizada, todos sus hijos solteros menores de 21 años de edad y su esposo podrán inmigrar a los Estados Unidos con usted.

Muchas peticiones se someten y después nacen otros hijos, esos hijos también están incluidos al momento en que hay una visa disponible.

En resumen, si usted es el beneficiario de una petición aprobada de visa y la fecha de prioridad ha llegado y hay una visa disponible, su esposo actual y sus hijos solteros menores de 21 años de edad podrán inmigrar con usted.

My brother filed a petition for me several years ago. Can my children immigrate with me when my turn comes?

A citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States may file an I-130 form with the USCIS to establish the existence of a relationship to certain alien relatives who wish to immigrate to the United States.

There is a numerical limit on how many people can legally immigrate to the United States, therefore, brothers or sisters who are U.S. citizens and are petitioning for their relatives, brothers and sisters from Mexico, there is currently a many, many year wait.

Currently there are visas available for brothers and sisters who petitioned on or before Feb. 15, 1996 available.

Those people have waited over 15 years for their family members to immigrate to the United States.

When the petition is current and a visa is available, one of the benefits to your brother or sister who is immigrating to the United States, their spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21 will also be able to immigrate with them.

If your brother or sister has a child who was

married but is still under the age of 21, that child cannot immigrate with them.

There has been some argument that if a child, for instance, was 17 years old and married, then the child was divorced or the marriage was annulled, and then the child was still under 21, could that child immigrate with their mother or father.

In the past, the processing of immigration petitions was taking a long time, and some children were aging out, which means the petition was available, the child was 20 years old but by the time the immigration service did all the paperwork the child had turned 21 and therefore could not immigrate with their parents.

A few years ago they passed a new law, The Child Citizenship Protection Act, which established a guarantee that the child’s age was frozen when the petition became available.

When a visa became available the child’s age was not determined when the petition was filed, or when the petition was approved. The child’s age was determined when a visa became available. And as we know, for brothers and sisters from Mexico there is about a 15 year wait.

Brothers and sisters from other Central American countries they are currently working on petitions filed March 8, 2000 or before. The longest category is brothers or sisters from the Philippines; they are working on petitions that

were filed in April of 1988.Therefore, some day when your petition

becomes current, all of your unmarried children who are under the age of 21 and your spouse will be able to immigrate to the United States with you. Many petitions are filed and then children are born afterwards, those children are also included at the time when the visa becomes available.

In summary, if you are a beneficiary of an approved visa petition and the priority date is current, therefore a visa is available, your current spouse and your unmarried children under the age of 21 will be able to immigrate with you.

Illinois aprueba DREAM ActREDACCIÓN UNA VOZ

SPRINGFIELD – La Cámara de Representantes en Illinois aprobó la legislación del DREAM Act en el estado. Ahora solo falta que el gobernador Pat Quinn estampe su firma para convertirla en ley.

El Acta Illinois DREAM Act establece el Fondo Illinois DREAM, que estará creado con fondos privados, para dar becas a estudiantes inmigrantes que no tienen un estatus legal en Estados Unidos.

La Cámara de Representantes aprobó la medida el 30 de mayo con 61 votos a favor y 53 en contra. El acta ya había sido aprobada por el Senado estatal este año.

De acuerdo con la Coalición para Inmigrantes y Refugiados de Illinois, alrededor de 95 mil estudiantes se verán beneficiados con esta ley.

Para beneficiarse de la ley SB 2185, los estudiantes deben ser hijos de inmigrantes, deben haber asistido a la escuela en Illinois por lo menos tres años y deben haberse graduado de una escuela preparatoria en el estado.

Illinois approves Dream ActUNA VOZ STAFF

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois House of Representatives approved the Illinois DREAM Act legislation. Now it only needs Governor Pat Quinn’s signature to become law.

The Illinois DREAM Act will establish the Illinois DREAM Fund, which will be privately funded, to make scholarships available to children of immigrants who do not have legal status in the United States..

The Illinois House passed the measure with 61 votes in favor and 53 against on May 30. The Illinois DREAM Act had been passed by the state’s Senate earlier this year.

According to the Illinois Coalition for Immigrants and Refugees Rights, about 95,000 students would benefit with this law.

To benefit from SB 2185, a student must be child of an immigrant, must have attended school in Illinois for at least three years and must have graduated from an Illinois high school.

This law, however, does not give a legal status to students or work permits.The new Mexican Consul in Chicago, Eduardo Arnal Palomera, said he is confident plenty

of people will come forward and contribute to the DREAM Act scholarship fund that will benefit undocumented students in Illinois and made a commitment to look for donors to contribute to said fund.

Hombre acusado de arroyar a motociclista después de discusión

AURORA – Un hombre de 49 años enfrenta cargos de felonía, después de que empujó a un motociclista con su vehículo todoterreno, dijeron oficiales de la Oficina del Alguacil del Condado de Kane.

Alfredo Escamilla, de la cuadra 700 de Aurora Avenue, fue acusado de agresión agravada con un arma mortal, agresión agravada en un lugar público, daño criminal a la propiedad, irse de la escena de un accidente con heridas personales y daño criminal a la propiedad, después de un incidente sucedido el 30 de mayo alrededor de las 8:13 p.m. en el área de Prairie Street y Elmwood Drive.

Man charged with running down motorcyclist

AURORA – A 49-year-old man faces felony charges after running his SUV into a motorcyclist during an argument, according to the Kane County Sheriff.

Alfredo Escamilla, of the 700 block of Aurora Avenue, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery in a public place, criminal damage to property, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and criminal damage to property, in an incident that took place at about 8:13 p.m. May 30 near the intersection of Elmwood Drive and Prairie street.

According to the prosecutors, Escamilla got involved in an argument with the driver of a motorcycle. Then Escamilla rammed his vehicle against the motorcycle on purpose. The motorcycle was stopped at a stop sign when this happened and the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike. He received medical treatment at a local clinic. Meanwhile, witnesses helped authorities locate Escamilla.

Drug raid at Elgin clothing storeUNA VOZ STAFF

ELGIN – A drug raid conducted by the Elgin Police Department ended with three men arrested.

The Special Investigation Division executed a search warrant May 28 at Blackeez clothing store, 9 National St. Police found 36 grams of marijuana and three Ecstasy pills.

Police arrested Jordan Walker, 23, of Elgin who was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver. Gihon Cole, 28, also of Elgin, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Walker’s bond was set at $10,000 and Cole’s at $5,000.

A third man, Robert J. Walker, 38, was arrested when he violently charged the police when he arrived at the place and demanded to be let in. He is Jordan Walker’s father. An officer sustained a laceration to his arm. Walker was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and aggravated resisting and obstructing a police officer. His bond was set at $20,000.

NADADORES, COAHUILA – Elements of the Mexican Army discovered an arsenal of machine guns imported from China, Russia, the Czechoslovakia and the United States buried in a property in the municipality of Nadadores in the northern state of Coahuila.

Division General Noe Sandoval Alcazar, head of the fourth military region in Monterrey, and General Dagoberto Espinoza Rodriguez, head of the sixth military region, said the weapons were found at about 5:30 p.m. May 31 in a property in Sardinas, in the municipality of Nadadores, when the troops were conducting exploratory activities.

Early reports account for 154 guns, 7 handguns, a rocket launcher, 2 66 mm caliber rockets, 4 grenades for mortars 60 mm caliber, 2 crossbows, 10 dismantled guns, 4,629 magazines, 92,039 bullets of different calibers, 435 full cartridge belts, and 4,735 loose straps.

They also found belts, holsters and other items, as well as 23 pieces of camouflaged uniforms, shirts, pants and 31 radio chargers.

At the site they also found a Bora vehicle with flat tires and Coahuila license plates.

General Espinoza Rodriguez said the arsenal had been buried a short time before being discovered, as the earth was removed and there was no mud, also, the weapons were wrapped in plastic bags.

Nobody was arrested in the operation and so far it has not been determined with group owns the guns.

Decomisan armas americanas, rusas y chinas en Coahuila

NADADORES, COAHUILA – Elementos del Ejército Mexicano descubrieron un arsenal de ametralladoras de importación rusa, china, checoslovaca y estadunidense que estaba enterrado en una propiedad del municipio de Nadadores, en el norteño estado de Coahuila.

El general de división diplomado de Estado Mayor Noé Sandoval Alcázar, comandante de la cuarta región militar de Monterrey, y el comandante de la sexta zona militar, general Dagoberto Espinoza Rodríguez, informaron que el arsenal fue encontrado alrededor de las 5:30 p.m. del 31 de mayo en un propiedad en el ejido Sardinas, de municipio de Nadadores, cuando las tropas habían trabajos de exploración.

Los primeros informes dan cuenta de 154 armas largas, 7 armas cortas, un lanza cohetes, 2 cohetes calibre 66 milímetros, 4 granadas para morteros calibre 60 milímetros, 2 ballestas, 10 armas largas desarticuladas, 4 mil 629 cargadores para cartucho, 92 mil 39 cartuchos de diferentes calibres, 435 fornituras completas y 4 mil 735 piezas sueltas de tirantes.

También encontraron fajillas, cartucheras y otras prendas, así como 23 piezas de uniformes camuflajeados, camisas, pantalones y 31 cargadores para radio.

En el predio también encontraron un auto Bora con las llantas pochadas y placas de circulación del estado de Coahuila.

El general Espinoza Rodríguez dijo que el arsenal tenía poco de haber sido enterrado, ya que la tierra estaba removida y no había lodo, además de que las armas estaban envueltas en bolsas de plástico.

En el operativo no se arrestó a ninguna persona y todavía no se determina a qué grupo criminal pertenecen las armas.

Former President Zedillo calls to decriminalize drug use

MEXICO CITY – Former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo, along with intellectuals and politicians, have asked world leaders to decriminalize some drugs like marijuana because of “the failure of the war on drugs.”

Zedillo, along with intellectuals Carlos Fuentes and Mario Vargas Llosa, as well as the former U.N Secretary Kofi Annan and businessman Richard Branson, among others, signed a letter on behalf of The Global commission on Drug Policy.

In the document the politicians and intellectuals call for proposals for legalization and regulation of drug use to “nullify the power of criminal organizations and restore the security and safeguard the health of the citizens.”

CD. DE MÉXICO – El ex presidente de México Ernesto Zedillo, junto con intelectuales y políticos pidió a los gobiernos del mundo que despenalice ciertas drogas como la marihuana, por “el fracaso de la guerra contra las drogas”.

Zedillo, junto con los intelectuales Carlos Fuentes y Mario Vargas Llosa, el ex secretario general de las Naciones Unidas Kofi Annan y el magnate Richard Branson, entre otros, firmó un documento a nombre de la organización La Comisión Global para la Política contra las Drogas.

En el documento, estos intelectuales y políticos piden que se adopten modelos de legalización y regulación del consumo de drogas para “anular el poder de las organizaciones criminales y devolver la seguridad y salvaguardar la salud de los ciudadanos”.

Tornado causa daños en el Estado de México

CD. DE MÉXICO – Un tornado causó daños a hogares y automóviles en la comunidad de Santiago Yeché en el municipio de Jocotitlán en el Estado de México. Afortunadamente no se registraron heridos ni bajas humanas.

El director de seguridad pública del municipio, Gustavo Rodríguez Rodríguez, dijo que el tornado había tocado tierra el 31 de mayo entre las 7:30 y 8 p.m. en los sembradíos de Boyechá.

De acuerdo a algunos testigos, fuertes vientos llegaron al área, seguidos de una lluvia ligera y, finalmente, cerca de una laguna que abastece a varias comunidades, se formó un tornado negro. Algunos dicen que el ancho del tornado era de 10 a 15 metros.

Rodríguez Rodríguez dijo que el tornado duró aproximadamente 5 minutos y dejó 14 edificios dañados, incluyendo cinco casas y una oficina ejidal severamente dañadas. El viento arrancó techos de las casas y árboles.

El jefe de la policía local también dijo que tres vehículos habían sido llevados por el tornado, dos de ellos se recuperaron pero una camioneta es pérdida total.

Rodríguez Rodríguez también dijo que el presidente municipal, José de Jesús Cedillo González, dijo que el gobierno local iba a pagar por todos los daños causados por el tornado.

También mencionó que el ganado de algunas personas se perdió en el tornado y que sus dueños habían notificado a las autoridades.

“Es la primera vez que pasa un suceso de esa magnitud, e investigando con los habitantes, ellos tampoco habían visto algo así. El tornado tuvo una duración de cinco minutos, porque el recorrido que realizó lo hizo muy rápido… Le puedo decir yo, que soy del municipio, que jamás hemos visto algo así de esta naturaleza”, dijo Rodríguez.

Tornado causes damages in Mexico State

MEXICO CITY – A tornado caused damage to homes and automobiles in the community of Santiago Yeché, in the municipality of Jocotitlan in Mexico State. Fortunately nobody was hurt.

The municipality’s public safety director Gustavo Rodriguez Rodriguez, said the tornado touched down May 31 between 7:30 and 8 p.m. in the fields near the town of Boyechá.

According to some eyewitnesses, strong winds hit the area, then a few minutes later light rain started falling and finally, near a lagoon that provides water to several towns, a black twister touched down. Some accounts state the path was 10 to 15 meters wide.

He said the tornado lasted for about 5 minutes and left 14 buildings damaged, including five homes and a rural office with heavy damage. Roofs were torn from buildings and trees were toppled by the winds.

The local police chief also said three vehicles were taken away by the tornado, two were recovered but a truck has been declared a total loss.

Rodriguez Rodriguez said the head of the municipality of Jocotitlan, Jose de Jesus Cedillo Gonzalez, said the local government is going to pay for all the damages caused by the tornado.

He also mentioned that some livestock was lost and their owners notified authorities.

“This is the first time that something of this magnitude happens, and asking the residents, they haven’t seen anything like this either. The tornado lasted five minutes, it was fast… I can tell you, and I am from this municipality, that we have never seen anything of this nature,” Rodriguez Rodriguez said.

Cárteles mexicanos siembran droga en reservas forestales estadounidenses

Mexican drug cartels harvest drugs in U.S. national parks

MEXICO CITY – A book soon to be published states that the Mexican drug cartels are expanding their operations in the United States and harvesting drugs in national parks.

In her book The Coming Invasion of Mexico’s Drug Wars, researcher Sylvia Longmire says that “hundreds of thousands of hectares in national parks like Mount Shasta National Forest and the Sequoia National Park in California, and others in the states of Kentucky, Tennessee and Michigan are used to harvest drugs.”

She explains that in order to defend their crops, they are heavily armed with assault rifles and park guards have been killed by these drug traffickers.

“As a terrorist cell structure, the cartels coerce Mexicans, then give them irrigation and camping equipment, telling them they will be at the site for four or five months. The ‘hired’ don’t know each other and don’t know who they are working for. That way, when they are arrested they don’t have any information to share with authorities,” she wrote.

Longmire, 36, is a former special agent with the U.S. Air Force, and worked as a border protection analyst for the state of California.

She also states that the anarchy and violence created by drug cartels is already in the United States. “And most U.S. citizens don{t know it. With the war between cartels there is the probability of many more things happening. By the end of 2010 there was a beheading in Chandler, Arizona, the first confirmed to be part of those disputes. A group in San Diego has killed people and has dissolved their remains in acid. The cartels operate meth labs and harvest marihuana in our national parks,” she says. “The cartels are testing the United States. The governments of both countries must think about the issue because the situation is going to get worse.”

The book is coming out in September.

CD .DE MÉXICO – Un libro a ser publicado próximamente dice que los cárteles mexicanos de las drogas están expandiendo sus operaciones en los Estados Unidos y están cosechando drogas en los parques nacionales.

En su libro “Cartel: La invasión que viene de la guerra mexicana contra las drogas”, la investigadora Sylvia Longmire dice que “cientos de miles de hectáreas en parques nacionales como el Monte Shasta National Forest y el Sequoia National Park en California, y otros en los estados de Kentucky, Tennessee y Michigan son usados para el cultivo de la droga”.

Ella explica que para defender sus sembradíos, los narcotraficantes están bien armados con rifles de asalto y que guardias de los parques ya han muerto a manos de estos traficantes.

“Como estructura de célula terrorista, los cárteles coercionan a mexicanos, les dan equipos

de riego y para acampar, diciéndoles que estarán allí durante cuatro o cinco meses. Entre los ‘contratados’ ninguno se conoce entre sí ni saben par quién están laborando .Así, al ser detenidos no tienen información qué dar a las autoridades”, escribió.

Longmire, de 36 años, es un ex agente especial con la Fuerza Aérea estadounidense, además de que trabajó como analista de protección fronteriza para el estado de California.

También menciona en su libro que la anarquía y la violencia creadas por los cárteles de las drogas ya están en los Estados Unidos.

“Y la mayoría de los estadounidenses no lo sabe. Con la guerra entre cárteles existe la probabilidad de que venga mucho más. A finales de 2010 hubo una decapitación en Chandler, Arizona, la primera confirmada como parte de tales disputas. Una banda en San Diego ha matado personas y disuelto sus cuerpos en ácido. Los cárteles operan laboratorios de metanfetamina y siembran marihuana en nuestros parques nacionales,” dice. “Los cárteles ponen a prueba a Estados Unidos. Los gobiernos de ambos países deben replantearse el tema porque la situación va a empeorar”.

El libro estará a la venta en septiembre.

More bodies found in Durango, Michoacan and Jalisco

MEXICO CITY – Mexican Army troops have found illegal body pits in Michoacan, where they recovered four bodies, and Jalisco, where they recovered the remains of five people. Also, authorities said two more bodies were found in a body pit in the city of Durango.

The Attorney General’s Office said that on May 31 authorities found two more bodies at a body pit in the Valle del Guadiana subdivision, increasing the body count to 226. These bodies were located in a lot used by a junk yard business.

Meanwhile, municipal authorities said they have reserved 100 lots in the Gethsemane Cemetery to bury the bodies that have been processed for identification. This way, they will vacate the refrigerated trucks that hold over 100 bodies.

In Michoacan, Army troops found an illegal body pit in the municipality of Tacambaro, with four bodies inside.

The bodies were located May 31, when Army troops were patrolling the aria and residents told them of the site. When the troops arrived they located a sandy mound, where they found the four bodies.

The army notified the State’s Attorney’s Office, which will conduct the investigations.

The remains were badly decomposed and authorities weren’t able to determine their sex or how they died.

Also on May 31, authorities reported two illegal body pits were found with five bodies in advanced stages of decomposition.

The sites were located in a hill south of Las Pilas, a town 10 minutes from Tamazula de Giordano in Jalisco. Apparently local farmers found the bodies.

Experts with the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences (IJCF) said the bodies recovered were male, four of them between 35 and 40 years old, and one apparently a teenager between 15 and 17 years old.

The experts indicated that the bodies were buried for about 10 days and all of them showed bullet wounds.

The bodies were transported to the Coroner’s Office in Guadalajara to determine the cause of death and conduct the required autopsies.

Encuentran más cuerpos en fosas de Durango, Michoacán y Jalisco

CD. DE MÉXICO – Elementos del Ejército Mexicano han detectado fosas ilegales en Michoacán, donde localizaron cuatro cuerpos, y en Jalisco, donde localizaron cinco. Además, autoridades reportaron el hallazgo de dos cuerpos más en una de las fosas de la ciudad de Durango.

La Procuraduría General de la República informó que el 31 de mayo se encontraron dos cuerpos más en una fosa clandestina en la colonia Valle del Guadiana, por lo que ya suman 226 los cuerpos exhumados en esta ciudad. Estos últimos cuerpos fueron hallados en un terreno donde había un yonque.

Mientras tanto, autoridades municipales informaron que han destinado 100 espacios en el panteón Getsemaní para sepultar los cuerpos que ya han sido procesados para ser identificados, y así de esta manera desocupar los camiones refrigerados que mantienen a más de 100 cuerpos.

En Michoacán, elementos del ejército localizaron una fosa clandestina en el municipio de Tacámbaro, que contenía cuatro cuerpos.

El hallazgo se hizo el 31 de mayo, cuando elementos del ejército realizaban un recorrido de vigilancia y fueron avisados de la existencia de la fosa por residentes del lugar.

Cuando llegaron a la zona señalada, los militares encontraron un montículo de arena, donde se localizaron cuatro cuerpos.

Los militares avisaron a la Procuraduría General de Justicia del Estado (PGJE) para que iniciara las investigaciones.

Debido al avanzado estado de descomposición de los cuerpos, no se ha podido determinar el sexo o la forma de muerte de las víctimas.

También el 31 de mayo autoridades reportaron el hallazgo de dos fosas clandestinas con cinco cuerpos en avanzado estado de descomposición en Jalisco.

Las fosas fueron detectadas en un cerro al sur del poblado Las Pilas, a unos 10 minutos de la cabecera municipal de Tamazula de Giordano. Aparentemente campesinos del área realizaron el hallazgo.

Peritos del Instituto Jalisciense de Ciencias Forenses (IJCF) dijeron que los cuerpos correspondían a cinco hombres, cuatro de entre 35 y 40 años de edad y uno aparentemente de un adolescentes de entre 15 y 17 años.

Los peritos indicaron que los cuerpos aparentemente fueron enterrados hace aproximadamente 10 días y todos ellos presentan impactos de bala.

Los cuerpos fueron llevados a las instalaciones del Servicio Médico Forense en Guadalajara para determinar las causas de la muerte y realizar las autopsias de ley.

CD. DE MÉXICO – Un juez federal en Tamaulipas ordenó el arresto de 73 personas en conexión con las fosas clandestinas encontradas en el estado de Tamaulipas.

El juez ordenó el arresto de estas personas después de recibir un reporte de la investigación previa sobre el descubrimiento de varias fosas clandestinas en San Fernando, Tamaulipas.

Hasta ahora ocho de los 73 que recibieron orden de aprehensión se encuentran en prisión. Cinco fueron arrestados el 7 de abril y los otros tres el 4 de marzo.

MEXICO CITY – A federal judge in Tamaulipas ordered 73 people arrested in connection with the body pits found in the state of Tamaulipas.

The judge ordered the arrest of all these people after receiving the report of an investigation into the discovery of several illegal body pits in San Fernando, Tamaulipas.

Those who have arrest warrants must face charges of organized crime and several of them also face charges of kidnapping, crimes against

health and violation of the Federal Law of Firearms and Explosives.

To date eight of the 73 people who are being charged have been arrested. Five of them have been under the care of authorities since April 7, and the other three since March 4.

The remaining 65 are under preliminary arrest and are yet to receive the formal order of arrest.

The Federal Public Ministry said that, to date, 12 bodies recovered from the San Fernando body pits that were taken to Mexico City have been identified and turned over to relatives for their burial.

Thalia’s mother will rest in peace in New York

NEW YORK – After singer Thalia and her sisters had some differences of opinion about their mother’s final resting place, it was finally decided that Yolanda Miranda Mange will rest in peace in New York.

Yolanda’s remains arrived in New York the morning of May 31 and a mass was celebrated in her memory on June 1 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Four of Yolanda’s daughters attended the religious celebration: Thalia, Gabriela, Ernestina and Federica Sodi.

Laura Zapata, Yolanda’s oldest daughter didn’t attend the religious service. When leaving the funeral home in Mexico, Zapata told reporters that she had already said good-bye to her mother and that she didn’t have any plans to travel to New York. Yolanda’s mother also remained in Mexico due to her frail health.

It is not known if Yolanda’s body was transported to New York or if she was incinerated and her ashes taken to the Big Apple. Her daughters had some issues deciding whether to bury her or incinerate her, given their religious beliefs.

Yolanda died in the early morning hours of May 27 in her Mexico City home, where she had been staying to attend the wedding of her daughter Ernestina. The wedding was scheduled for May 28.

The wedding took place at the funeral home, something that Zapata was not very happy with, but still attended the ceremony.

When the news broke that Yolanda had died, nobody knew for sure if Thalia would be able to attend the funeral service, as she is in the final stages of her second pregnancy.

However, the singer arrived in a private plane in Toluca and then went to Mexico City. Her husband, Tommy Mottola, was by her side the whole time. A group of physicians travelled with her to make sure her pregnancy was not at risk.

Thalia and Zapata were estranged for many years, after Zapata and her sister Ernestina were kidnapped in 2002. However, it seems their mother’s death helped them come together. Witnesses said Thalia and Zapata were hugging and crying by their mother’s casket at the funeral home.

La gran ausente fue su hija mayor, Laura Zapata, quien había dicho que ya se había despedido de su madre en México y no tenía planeado viajar a Nueva York. Tampoco asistió al servicio religioso la abuela de Thalía, por su delicado estado de salud.

No se sabe si el cuerpo embalsamado de Yolanda fue enviado a Nueva York o si fue incinerada antes de este traslado. Entre sus hijas había desacuerdo, ya que mientras unas proponían su incineración, otras por motivos religiosos decían que tenían que enterrar su cuerpo embalsamado.

Yolanda falleció la madrugada del 27 de mayo en su casa de la Ciudad de México, donde se encontraba para asistir a la boda de su hija Ernestina, que estaba programada para el 28 de mayo.

La boda a fin de cuentas se llevó a cabo en la funeraria, algo en lo que Laura Zapata no estuvo muy de acuerdo, pero de todas maneras asistió a la ceremonia.

Al conocerse la noticia del fallecimiento de Yolanda, no se sabía a ciencia cierta si Thalía podría viajar a México, debido a que está a punto de tener a su segundo hijo.

Sin embargo, la cantante llegó en un vuelo particular a Toluca, trasladándose a la Ciudad de México para asistir al velorio. La cantante estuvo acompañada en todo momento de su esposo Tommy Mottola y de un grupo de médicos que le acompañaron para asegurarse que su embarazo no corría peligro.

Thalía y Laura Zapata se encontraban distanciadas desde que Zapata y su hermana Ernestina fueran secuestradas en el año 2002. Sin embargo, parece que la muerte de su madre las llevó a reconciliarse. Testigos dijeron que Thalía y Laura estuvieron abrazadas llorando frente al féretro de su madre.

PUERTO VALLARTA – Jenni Rivera took a bully attitude with a fan during a concert in Puerto Vallarta.

An 18-year old fan threw a can of beer to the stage while Jenni was singing. When this happened Rivera asked the woman to get on stage and confronted her.

“I respect you and I (ask) that you respect me: I am here to sing to you with all my heart: I could be at home; I could be at a hotel making a baby, but I’m here with you,” the singer told the audience.
