UMTS 3G/3G+ services and applications continue to see tremendous growth, requiring development and deployment of new features. To keep pace with the increasing complexities, device manufacturers and network operators need effective methods to test and verify new and existing device functionalities in commercially-deployed networks.

The 8100 Development Library provides an ideal set of tools focused on Application, Protocol, and Physical Layer testing of UMTS 3G and 3G+ devices. UMTS base station emulation capability with multi-cell and multi-RAT helps to reliably reproduce live-network device issues in the lab. An advanced option for fading and noise provides additional lab-based emulation of real-world network channel conditions. The UI-based “script” engine allows for rapid creation and editing of custom test cases for mobile device and chipsets.

The 8100 Development Library helps accelerate functional, integration, and inter-operability testing with full automation capability. As a key part of the 8100 Mobile Device test system, 8100 Development Library also provides a scalable, multi-purpose solution that is expandable beyond initial testing needs.

MOBILITY TeSTINGRich multi-cell/multi-RAT allows testing of device features and capabilities well beyond those addressed by conformance-based testers. It is offered as a benchtop unit with real-time base station software and protocols. This configuration enables quick creation and testing of complex mobility scenarios such as Inter-RAT handovers/re-selection, multi-band handovers, and many other mobility scenarios. Multi-cell capability allows 8100 Development Library customers to emulate different PLMN configurations for various roaming scenarios in the lab.

AUTOMATeD TeSTING WITH USeR PROfILeSDevelopment Library makes it easy to quickly set up test cases that enable analysis of device behavior for specific user profiles; for example, a business user who moves around a lot, with a mix of voice, email and web browsing. Or a personal user who mostly makes voice calls and seldom moves outside the local area. Automation means that tests with user profiles under a range of network conditions can be created and executed without the need for user interaction.

KeY feATUReS• Supports GSM, WCDMA, HSDPA, and HSUPA

• UI-based script engine allows for easy test creation and editing

• Up to four multi-RAT Cells, with six additional cells available for interference testing

• “RF Playback Engine” creates and replays parameters such as Ior, fading, and more

• End-to-end testing of Applications (voice, packet) with user-defined Mobility and RF scenarios

• Synchronized RF and UMTS base station emulation with real-time state machine

• 8100 Tool Kit with Network Configuration Editor, Test Manager, CQI Editor and other powerful tools

• Comprehensive message logging and analysis enables rapid identification of issues

BRINGING THe Rf NeTWORK eNVIRONMeNT INTO THe LABAn integrated “RF playback engine” helps re-create an RF environment in the lab by allowing modeling and variation of features and parameters for cell power, fading, noise, Doppler frequency, phase shift, AWGN SNR and multi-path. Through the RF Playback Engine, the 8100 Development Library provides both 3GPP and custom-defined models and fading scenarios to perform voice, data, and mobility testing.
