From the Dean

1

Dear Friends,

At the Ole Miss School of Education, we’re committed to shaping educa-tional leaders—teachers, administrators and counselors who see the po-tential in their students, schools and communities. But we also challenge our graduates to take their passion one step beyond their peers and find new ways to impact learning. We continue to raise the bar and strive for excellence both inside and outside the classroom. Now more than ever, our alumni, faculty and students lead our state in service, research and in the development of quality programs in the classroom and beyond.

Our motto: Imagine Innovate Inspire

We IMAGINE better outcomes in education.

That’s why the staff at our Center for Excellence in Literacy Instruction travels to high-needs schools in North Mississippi to help teachers improve the quality of their instruction and help K-3 children read their first books. It’s the reason our Mississippi Teacher Corps has trained high-ability college graduates from around the country to enter our state’s most challenging schools for more than 23 years.

We INNOVATE new classrooms.

Our online programs are constantly improving and growing. Today, we connect with working professionals who pursue online master’s degrees in elementary, literacy and higher education. And, our Child Advocacy and Play Therapy Institute now offers a one-of-a-kind online specialist degree in play therapy for working mental health professionals.

We INSPIRE our students.

Our graduates succeed where others cannot. It’s why 100% of our Principal Corps graduates receive job offers in Mississippi schools upon graduation and why every semester we hear news that Ole Miss education alumni have been named teacher of the year by their students and peers and are taking on leadership positions and impacting lives.

At the Ole Miss School of Education we prepare teachers, administrators and counselors to tackle the real issues in education no matter where they are.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Rock

Hearin Foundation with a goal to prepare reading/literacy teachers who know how to teach reading to all children, but especially those children in Mississippi who are in low socioeconomic-status districts. In fall 2010, CELI became a Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) national affiliate site dedicated to providing LETRS professional development to educators in the state and region.

CeLi provides tremendous service to the community, field experiences for undergraduate candidates and internship experiences for graduate literacy education candidates through various partnerships.
