EXERCISE 6 - PARAGRAPH & CHARACTER STYLESINTRODUCTION

In this tutorial, we will be looking at more aspects and functions of InDesign which will increase your knowledge and allow you to become familiar with and use a few more of the design features available.

You will be using the InDesign file that you have been using in Tutorial 2, finishing the recipes on pages 2, 3 and 4 using the features and functions learned in each section as you go.

Create a folder named Tutorial 3 in your Ultimate Design folder.

The files for this tutorial can be found at:

http://www.mediafire.com/folder/51d9mtq45s1s7/UI_Tutorial_3

Click on the link above and download these files into the Tutorial 3 folder:

FUN FACTSLigatures

In typography, a ligature occurs where two or more letters are joined as a single glyph. An example is the character æ as used in English, in which the letters a and e are joined.

Many ligatures combine f with a following letter. Prominent examples are fi and fl. The tittle (the dot) of the i in many serif typefaces collides with the hood of the f when placed beside each other in a word, and are combined into a single glyph with the tittle absorbed into the f.

These arose because with the usual type sort for lowercase f, the end of its hood is on a kern, which would be damaged by collision with raised parts of the next letter.

TYPOGRAPHYSerif and Sans Serif Fonts

Fonts are often described as being serif or sans serif (without serifs). A common serif typeface is Times Roman. A common sans serif typeface is Helvetica.

E ETimes New Roman Helvetica

EXERCISE 6 - PARAGRAPH & CHARACTER STYLESEXERCISE 6 - PARAGRAPH & CHARACTER STYLES

In the Indents and Spacing panel, set the alignment to left and Space After to 2mm.

Finally, turn of the hyphenation in the Hyphenation panel. Click OK.

Your Paragraph Styles panel should look like this:

Select all the text in the Calamari Recipe and click on Body Text in the Paragraph Styles panel. Your text should now look like this:

Notice that both

Paragraph Breaks and Soft Returns are used. There is a Paragraph Break between each paragraph and the items in the ingredients have no space between the lines. This is to keep all the ingredients in one text “block”, exactly as we did on Page 15 of Tutorial 2.

SAVE your file NOW!

I hope you see that Paragraph Styles will aid you in keeping your document consistent throughout. In addition to the variables we set with Body Text, we can also adjust:

Horizontal and Vertical Scaling Baseline Shift and Skew Left, Right, First and Last Line Indents Set Tabs Paragraph Rules and Shading Add Drop Caps Bullets and Numbering Change Text Colour Underline and Strikethrough Text

The above list is an example of using Bullets and Left Indents in a Paragraph Style.

Character Styles also aid in the consistency of format, style and time saving.

Open the Character Style panel and select New Character Style from the menu. Name this style Body Text. In the Basic Character Formats panel, set the style to:

Family: Garamond Font Style: Regular Size: 10 Leading: Auto (12)

Select all the text and click Body Text in the Character Styles panel. All the text will change to Garamond as you have specified.

Open the Swatch panel and create a new colour. Set the values of the new colour as follows:

Cyan: 0% Magenta 100%Yellow 75% Black 10%

Name the new colour Recipe Rose.

Create a new Character Style:

Font Family: Rockwell Font Style: Bold Size: 18 Leading: 18 (21.6)

Click Character Colour panel and choose Recipe Rose. Name the New Character Style Recipe Title. Click OK. With the text tool, highlight the recipe name: ‘Calamari with Lemon Aioli and Pea & Mint Salad’. Click Recipe Title in the Character Styles panel. Your text should now look like this:

Create another Character Style:

Font Family: Garamond Font Style: Italic Size: 12 Leading: Auto(14.4)

Name the New Character Style Recipe Intro.

Click OK.

Highlight the introduction to the recipe: ‘Give this Calamari with lemon aioli and pea & mint salad a sprinkling of spice and a generous helping of true blue flavour.’.

Click Recipe Intro on the Character Styles panel. You should now see this:

Finally, select “Pea and mint salad” in the ingredients list, and in the Control Panel, change the weight of the font from Regular to Bold.

Remember to SAVE your file at this point.

EXERCISE 8 - FINISHING PAGE 2EXERCISE 7 - TEXT WRAP

Text Wrap is a technique of placing an object on top of a text frame and enabling the text to flow around the object so that all the text is visible without creating more text frames to confuse the layout.

This will become clearer by doing this exercise.

Draw a rectangular Picture Frame in the first column and alter its dimensions with the Control Panel to the following:

Horizontal Position: 10mm Vertical Position: 133mm

Height: 40mm Width: 56.33mm

This should place the frame within the margins of the first column exactly.

Place the picture Calamari.jpg in the picture frame. The picture is sized so that it should fit within the frame.

Choose the Text Wrap panel and select the Wrap around bounding box option, circled in red in the next illustration.

Notice how the text ‘wraps’ around the picture frame so that no text is hidden or obscured by the frame.

Remember to SAVE your file at this point.

To finish Page 2, you will complete the 2nd and 3rd columns and add a paragraph to the top of the page.

Start by drawing a horizontal guideline and reposition it at 55mm.

Place the Word file Lemongrass Chicken Skewers.doc into the middle column of Page 2 so that the top of the resulting text frame is flush with the guideline at 55mm.

Select all the text within the frame and with the Paragraph Styles panel open, change the style to Body Text.

Open the Character Styles panel and change the style to Body Text. Select the text ‘Lemongrass Chicken Skewers’ and change the style to Recipe Title. Select the introductory paragraph and change the style to Recipe Intro.

Remember to SAVE your file at this point.

Draw a rectangle frame and size it to 56.33mm wide and 40mm high. Position this frame so that it sits at the bottom of column 2. Place the picture Chicken Skewers.jpg into the frame.

Remember to SAVE your file at this point.

Your recipe should look like the illustration to the right.

EXERCISE 8 - FINISHING PAGE 2EXERCISE 8 - FINISHING PAGE 2

Place the Word file Avocado Salsa.doc into the right hand column of Page 2 so that the top of the resulting text frame is flush with the guideline at 55mm and the bottom of the frame meets the bottom margin guide.

Select all the text within the frame and with the Paragraph Styles panel open, change the style to Body Text. Open the Character Styles panel and do like wise to change the font to Garamond.

Select the text ‘Avocado, Lime and Coriander Salsa’ and change the style to Recipe Title in the Character Styles panel.

Select the introductory paragraph (between the title and list of ingredients) and change the style to Recipe Intro.

Click the selection tool and choose the text frame. Select Align bottom in the Control Panel. This should align all your text to the bottom of the column.

Remember to SAVE your file at this point.

Draw a picture frame in the third column so that it measures 56.33mm wide and 113mm high. Position this frame so that it sits at the top of the guideline at 55mm. Place the picture Avocado Salsa.jpg into the frame.

Remember to SAVE your file at this point.

Your recipe should look like the illustration to the right.

Finally, create a text frame at the top of the page that crosses over both columns 2 and 3 and touches the topmost margin. (Location: X = 74.33; Y = 10mm)

Change the height to 30mm.

Place the text Opening Paragraph.doc in the text frame.

Change the text using the Control Panel to:

Garamond Italic, 21 point, leading auto, right hand justified, with the hyphenation off.

Remember to SAVE your file at this point.

For the salad, whisk together the red wine vinegar and olive oil and season with sea salt and pepper. Toss remaining salad ingredients with the dressing.

Serve the fried calamari immediately, with the salad and lemon aioli.

Lemongrass Chicken SkewersLemon grass is a tropical grass with a lemony scent and taste that’s used in cooking. It is typically sold fresh, but it’s also available dried and powdered. Lemon grass is common in Thai, Vietnamese, and Sri Lankan dishes, and it’s also becoming popular in other cuisines. 2 stalks lemongrass, white part only, finely chopped 2 shallots, finely chopped 1 long red chilli, seeded, finely chopped 2 garlic cloves, crushed 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce 1 tablespoon oyster sauce 2 teaspoons fish sauce 1 teaspoon sesame oil 500g chicken thigh fillets, thinly sliced spring onions, thinly sliced, to serve steamed rice to serve

Place in a glass or ceramic bowl and add the chicken. Stir to combine. Cover with plastic wrap and place in fridge for 1 hour to develop the flavours.

Thread the chicken evenly among the skewers. Preheat a char-grill pan on high. Add chicken and cook for 2-3 minutes each side or until cooked through. Transfer to a platter, sprinkle with green onions and serve immediately with steamed jasmine rice.

EXERCISE 10 - PAGES 3 & 4EXERCISE 9 - GLYPHS

In typography, a Glyph is an elemental symbol within a character set. Normally we use the keyboard to type letters, numbers and the common symbols that we use.

However, there are many more symbols within each font’s character set that we can use, but not accessible via the keyboard.

Choose the Glyphs panel in the Panel Dock.

In the Calamari recipe on page 2 of your booklet, highlight the 1/4 in the ‘Pea & mint salad’ ingredient list:

Scroll down the list in the Glyphs panel and find the ¼ symbol.

Double-click the ¼ symbol and your text should change as in the following illustration.

Finish Page 2 of the booklet by changing as many fractions as you can to glyphs. You can also add the degree symbol to format temperatures such as:

120°C

You can see I’ve already made all these changes in the illustration on page 9.

Remember to SAVE your file at this point.

Now to complete pages 3 and 4.

Place the file Lime Leaf Chicken.doc into the left column of page 3. Make all the changes to the text as you did for the previous three recipes:

Paragraph Style: Body Text Character Style: Body Text Title: Recipe Title Intro Paragraph: Recipe Intro

Then change the sub-heading ‘Rice noodles and cucumber’ to Garamond Bold.

Change the fractions to Glyphs and add a degree symbol ( º ) between the ‘200’ and the ‘C’ to make it 200ºC

Draw a rectangle frame at the bottom of the column and make the height 72mm. Make sure the bottom of the frame meets the bottom margin guide.

Place the picture Lime Leaf Chicken.jpg into the frame.

Place the file Sirloin Steaks.doc into the right column and Align Bottom using the Control Panel. Change the text as you did for the left column, remembering to change the sub-heading to Bold.

Draw a Frame at the top of the column with height 95mm. Place the file Sirloin Steaks.jpg into the frame.

For page 4, place the file Mango and Yoghurt Parfait.doc into the first column, Align Bottom, and make all the changes to the text as you have previously.

Create a frame at the top of the column with height 65mm and place the picture Mango Parfait.jpg.

Place the file Baked Peaches.doc in the right hand column and make all the necessary Character, Paragraph, Glyph and sub-heading changes. Draw a frame at the bottom of the column 122mm high and place the picture Baked Peaches.jpg.

The finished file Celebrate Summer (as a PDF) is in your Tutorial 3 folder for you to compare your efforts. Hopefully we both got it right.

HANDY HINTSizing Text Frames

You can define a text frame so that it automatically resizes based on the specifications that you choose. This will resize frames whenever text overflows.

Choose Object > Text Frame Options from the Menu and choose the tab Auto-Size and set Auto-Sizing to Height Only. Click on the top-centre arrow that points down. Click OK. Now the frame will resize as you type, place and remove text.
