A 5 2 - y e a r - o l d man was a d m i t t e d t o h o s p i t a l f o l l o w i n g t w ot o n i c - c l o n i c s e i z u r e s . T h e r e w a s a l o n g h i s t o r y o f e x c e s s i v e a l c o h o l c o n s u m p t i o no f more t h a n 1 0 0 u n i t s p e r w e e k . O ne week p r i o r t o a d m i s s i o n h e h a d s t o p p e dd r i n k i n g a l c o h o l b e c a u s e h e h a d become i n c r e a s i n g l y c o n f u s e d . H e w a s o n n or e g u l a r m e d i c a t i o n . T h e r e w a s n o h i s t o r y o f t r a u m a o r e p i l e p s y . O n e x a m i n a t i o nh e w a s a p y r e x i c , a n i c t e r i c a n d n o t c l i n i c a l l y d e h y d r a t e d . He s c o r e d 1 1 o n t h eG l a s g o w Coma s c a l e . ' T h e r e w e r e n o a b n o r m a l n e u r o l o g i c a l s i g n s i n t h e c r a n i a ln e r v e s .
