About usUllswater, referred to as the ‘Dark Lake’ in

Ullswater and the ‘Steamers’

Our heritage past gives visitors a very unique

experience to sail through this spectacular valley

that has been part of many a true tale. Its beauty

was the inspiration for one of the best loved

poems ever written ‘The Daff odils’ by William

Wordsworth. These delicate wild fl owers can still

be seen on the lakeshore in the Spring. We work

closely with many conservation bodies to ensure

the future of the valley by raising awareness

and funding towards access and conservation

projects in the valley. To date over £25,000 has

been raised and we have been accredited with

the GTBS Silver and CBEN Gold Environmental

Awards.

What’s near the lake?

Consider your options from our Itinerary

suggestions for a quick visit or stay a little longer

and explore some of the valley’s hidden gems.

Combine a cruise with a cream tea or lunch

option at a local hotel or fellow attractions such

as Rheged or Dalemain Historic House & Gardens,

all use local Cumbrian produce. Alternatively,

take advantage of the expanded landing stage at

Pooley bridge and enjoy a coff ee alfresco style by

the lakeshore. For the more adventurous combine

a visit to the spectacular Aira Force, one of the

most famous natural features in the area, tumbling

some 70ft in a series of exquisite cacades before

it disappears into the mystic chasms beneath.
