Established in 2010 by Roy and Christian Heritage (the current Owner/Directors), Plastic Solutions is a renowned supplier of plastic, portable urinals & toilets and effluent tanks which can be used in multiple industries.

“Our initial aim was to provide a robust, plastic, lightweight and feature-packed alternative to the heavy, steel waste tanks typically deployed by the cabin hire industry for the collection of liquid waste from site toilets and welfare facilities,” commented Jon Trelfa, General Manager at Plastic Solutions (Aldridge) Limited. “As the business has developed, we now provide additional products to support the wider portable sanitation industry.”

The Walsall-based business provides plastic effluent tanks in a range of capacities and ‘connect-ability’ for the capture of toilet waste from toilet blocks, site welfare facilities and large public events. Products include single, portable toilets for the construction and event industries, portable urinals for the event industry and associated complementary accessories (such as automatic PIR lights for toilet units, large sink units, saddle tanks for fresh water storage on trucks and toilet movers).

The vast range consists of many revolutionary innovations perfect for liquid waste disposal, such as the Tuff Tank, a 500 gallon plastic holding tank, and its smaller counterpart, the Mini Tuff Tank. Made with robust materials, these items are easy to deliver and position, and are incredibly cost-effective.

“The plastic Tuff Tank – the first (and still the best) primary product line – is now in its 3rd generation and boasts some key USPs to be the clear product of choice in the construction and event industries where no mains sewer connection is available,” Jon detailed.

Strategically designed to meet the ever-changing needs of portable sanitation suppliers, the Tuff Tank acts as a lighter and more effective alternative to the typical steel waste holdings tanks that are currently in use. Unlike steel, this product won’t corrode, meaning the design (which can be created in many colours) will always appear fresh and hygienic.

The smaller version, the Mini Tuff Tank, is incredibly lightweight at just 45kgs. Its size makes it extremely flexible and subsequently, popular within many industry sectors; having served great purpose for construction site waste tanks, event site waste tanks, urinal waste, portable shower

waste, portable toilet waste, waste oil collection and rain water harvesting.

Plastic Solutions serves companies in a whole host of categories, facilitating the needs of customers in cabin & container and portable toilet hire as well as event organisers, tankered waste operators and providers of effluent tipping points for boat & caravan waste. Their specialist equipment can be used on construction sites, campsites and pleasure boat waste tipping points as well as at outdoor events.

Plastic Solutions exhibit at the main European trade shows for the portable sanitation industry, including the PSE in the UK and EUROTOI in Germany, held annually every March. These showcases enable the company to obtain new customers for its unique products in both the UK and across mainland Europe.

Propelair, the UK designer and manufacturer of the revolutionary 1.5 litre flush toilet, is looking to save The Royal Bank of Scotland £1 million a year on water bills after reviewing results of a pilot programme at one of the banking group’s properties.

Installed as part of the RBS Innovation Gateway initiative – aimed at driving resource efficiency – the toilets have reduced the average flush volume at the bank’s Premier Place office in London by 81%, from 8.11 to 1.47 litres. When rolled out across the estate it is estimated that this flush reduction will cut RBS’s total water bills by 50%.

This proven, unprecedented water-saving means massive potential benefits for UK private and public sector Estates and Facilities Managers. Propelair toilets also reduce the spread of germs by 95%,

bringing big potential healthcare and productivity benefits. That’s why Propelair won the Lion’s Lair innovation award at Facilities Management 2015.

CEO Garry Moore said, “People are now seeing the real financial benefits of our water-saving, environmentally friendly, hygienic toilets.” This year Propelair installed 45 toilets for the London Borough of Redbridge in Ilford.

Propelair’s patented displaced-air technology produces a powerful, high-performance flush using 1.5 litres of water compared to an average nine, using 84% less water, cutting water bills by up to 60% and reducing carbon footprint by an average 80%.

Building & Construction Review is pleased to announce that TENMAT Ltd has been commended for its exceptional commitment to Product Innovation.

With over 100 years of experience in the sector, it is no surprise that TENMAT is considered a leading manufacturer of high performance engineering materials and components. Being successfully placed at the forefront of the industry for such a significant period of time has enabled its team to meticulously refine its knowledge and specialist expertise in material developments, characteristics, suitability and applications.

TENMAT’s extensive inventory of products consists of wear parts & bearings, engineering ceramics, high temperature resistant materials, passive fire protection solutions and rotary vanes for pumps and compressors. These high quality items are the result of carefully conducted product testing and development procedures carried out at its R&D laboratories found at its base in Trafford Park, Manchester.

“We are proud to be a UK-based manufacturer who products and tests all of our products onsite,” commented Chris Thompson, Business Manager of Fire Protection at TENMAT. “This enables us to have better control over our materials and the monitoring of its quality. In truth, this is one of the aspects that make our company so unique – we are a diverse brand providing different types of products to various geographical markets – all whilst operating under one roof!

“We invest a lot in the testing and development of our products, particularly when it comes to the fire-protection ranges. We are independently third party audited by a number of organisations across the world and have wide acceptance from those working in building control; this stamp of approval is testament to our commitment to carrying out extensive external testing to the latest European standards.”

The products are offered in standard forms, but they can also be specifically tailored; if the customer would prefer a unique fully machined item, they can take full advantage of TENMAT’s custom component manufacturing service. In addition, if design services, drawings and fitting instructions are required, suitable solutions can be finalised for individual applications.

The high specification and high performance components are used across a wide range of deep niche markets, including usages for high temperature materials, steel & gas manufacturing and chemical seal utilisation. They are frequently used in critical applications where quality performance is essential – this includes within organisations running rockets, submarines and trains.

Its fully comprehensive services include the development of the initial concept and material selection to product allocation and efficient component delivery. These processes are further enhanced with the provision of helpful support and technical excellence alongside a commitment to establishing solid professional relationships with all clients. TENMAT’s technicians are also accessible if clients need assistance on-site with the fitting and installation of their products; this is yet another example of the business’s quest for complete customer satisfaction.

Future development is built readily on the improvement of existing product ranges and an explicit focus on the extension of current performance characteristics of such items. This subsequently will drive the company forward, leading it to branch out further into exciting new growth areas (such as advanced passive fire protection materials).

It’s important to note that this isn’t the first time the company has been recognised for its prominent contribution

to revolutionising the marketplace. TENMAT has previously been awarded a Queen’s Award for Innovation; an outstanding achievement which further emphasises its superior professionalism and dedication to the cause. The highly esteemed accolade was granted to the team for the work carried out on its fire protection products; items renowned for fire spread prevention in buildings.

Incredibly, TENMAT was presented with a second Queen’s award recently, one commending excellent efforts in International Trade. When discussing these fantastic tokens of acclamation, Chris said, “Here at TENMAT, we are really pleased to have been presented with these awards. We were selected for the innovation

category due to the fact our fire protection products have made a real benefit in the marketplace in regards to improving life safety.”

TENMAT are set to attend the Timber Expo 2015 this October, where its Cavity Fire Barrier product will be in the running for the product innovation award. The thin, easy-to-install fire barrier expands rapidly in fire situations and is free to ventilation, meaning there’s no need to close the cavity, which is often the case for traditional cavity barriers.

If you would like to know more about this award-winning company and its extensive product line and associated services, get in touch with the TENMAT team today.

Building and Construction Review is pleased to announce that Biogenie-Englobe has been selected for achieving its highly prestigious Commitment to Excellence profile.

The company, which is the largest operator of Soil Treatment Facilities in the UK, has been chosen for being a refined specialist in the off-site treatment of contaminated soils and sludges, providing comprehensive waste treatment services to a wide selection of clients in the construction, municipal and industrial sectors.

Biogenie is known for being the first UK company to develop and operate a hazardous Soil Treatment Facility (STF) – which was set up in 2005. It has since obtained decades of experience in the niche sector, serving a variety of different industries.

Biogenie-EnGlobe is the sister company of Celtic-EnGlobe, one of the country’s leading remediation and Brownfield Enabling Works contractors which is renowned for its proven track record of delivery. Both businesses form part of Englobe Corp., a world

leader in the provision of integrated environmental services which operates on an international basis (across the UK, France, Israel, the USA and Canada). This parent company has honed its expertise in the management of organic waste materials, the re-use of decontaminated soils and the precision testing and calibration of bulk tanks & storage systems in order to secure this reputable status.

Since the opening of its first treatment facility in 2005, Biogenie-EnGlobe

has so far treated almost a million tonnes of contaminated material; an incredibly impressive feat emphasising its capability and prominence in the sector. Significant development saw the acquisition of other facilities in the UK, mainland Europe and North America, creating a strong network which can better cater to the ever-increasing industry demand. Its strategic partnership with Biffa Waste Services ensures that Biogenie can

effectively see to the needs of all customers with its national coverage, seeing to the sustainable, compliant and landfill tax free off-site treatment of a wide range of hazardous wastes.

In terms of the Celtic EnGlobe side of the business, innovative, design led problem solving has been at the core of its successful delivery of cost-effective remediation. Its pioneering technologies have now been adopted as a standard throughout the industry; this includes surfactant flushing, chemical oxidation and in situ stabilisation & solidification.

In regards to current developments, Celtic EnGlobe has recently been awarded the Davyhulme enabling

works package by the Laing O’Rourke/Imtech (LORI) joint venture. This major project, worth £5.5m, demonstrates the continued success of the North West team in winning high profile projects across the region. The contract award for this project reflects Celtic’s ability to deliver integrated earthworks, innovative site remediation and off-site STF solutions, to manage client’s development risks.

This notable enterprise is a first step in a major upgrade of Davyhulme Waste Water Treatment Works (situated in Manchester in the UK), and was set into motion to enable new treatment water infrastructure to be constructed. The overall client is United Utilities, a £1.7bn turnover water, sewerage and electricity supplier located in the northwest, whilst the overall works package includes 430,000 tonnes of earthworks, 100,000 tonnes of soil treatment and placement of 65,000m2 of piling mats. This exciting new project will take place throughout 2015.

Upon discussing this scheme, Celtic-EnGlobe’s Managing Director Dr. Joe Teer, commented, “Celtic-Englobe are delighted to be given the opportunity to bring more than 20 years of project delivery and innovation experience to bear on this major project for the North West. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the bid team that worked on the preparation of this proposal and wish the project team, every success as they work to deliver this technically and commercially challenging project.”

The 24 in-house soil treatment facilities operated under the Biogenie-Englobe brand contribute to its reputation for offering a world-class service in the bioremediation of contaminated soils. This includes 4 premises in the UK – which enables greater flexibility in terms of its national operation – 2 facilities in France and 17 structures in North America. These specially adapted facilities provide cost-effective alternatives to landfill, accepting up to 3 million tonnes on an annual basis from a wider range of wastes with the added benefit of not incurring landfill tax.

Biogenie’s main points of operation are based at Meece near Stone in Staffordshire, Redhill in Surrey and at Skelton Grange (just outside of Leeds). It has recently opened a new soil treatment facility at Biffa’s Westmill site near Ware in Hertfordshire; this area is permitted to accept 60,000 tonnes of material per annum and as with all of our Soil Treatment facilities the process is landfill tax exempt as all treated material is beneficially reused rather

than disposed of in landfill void. Set up in early July, the new facility is capable of treating a wide range of materials and contaminants, soils and some process wastes.

As well as having a strong presence in London and the South East, the group work actively across the UK on several remediation and brownfield enabling projects. Its team of reliable and experienced professionals has remediated and provided guidance on many of the UK’s major projects in recent years and has also provided an off-site option for soils and other contaminated materials across the country.

Wallguard Systems: Committed to service and qualityBuilding & Construction Review is extremely pleased to announce that the highly recommended company Wallguard Systems Ltd has been applauded for its exceptional commitment to Product Innovation.

Wallguard Systems is the only UK supplier of Systexx glass fabric and the Opti range of coatings; this alone makes it a standout name in the industry. When you factor in that its team also specialises in the nationwide design, supply and installation of all passive fire protection systems, it is easy to see why the company has been selected for its outstanding products and services.

The business, which was established in November 2013, provides a glass fabric that is one of the most trusted materials for its unique characteristics. Glass fabrics share these characteristics with additional benefits: an extremely long life cycle and a permanent reinforcement of the substrate are just a few to name.

The Systexx range comprises products best suited for areas which typically have high quantities of traffic. These items, which are carefully constructed using glass fabrics, significantly lessen maintenance cycles and subsequently, the ongoing maintenance costs (which can be exceedingly extortionate). As the glass fabrics provide great strength (and therefore, high impact resistance), the Systexx range acts as the perfect problem solver, offering a level of function that other wall coverings simply cannot achieve – reinforcing and bridging cracks whilst ensuring the prevention of any further crevices.

“The Systexx wall coverings are fire-resistant and exceed the British Standard BS476 class 0 for spread of flame, whilst meeting the European Standard EN13823 B-21, D0,” explained Simon Brooke, Director at Wallguard Systems, when asked about this particular range. “The glass fabric structures result in a flawless finish regardless of substrate quality, and they are quick and easy to apply (taking on average 25 square meters per hour).”

“The Systexx system reduces initial labour preparation costs with future low-maintenance requisites and is a complete anti-bacterial system when finished with the OPTIBACT paint range (including anti-graffiti paint). These particular products include a magnetic wallcovering, which is suitable for use in

schools, offices, hotels and hospitals (basically, in areas that demand high hardware and tear resistance).”

The Systexx fire-resistant glass fabric wallcoverings are woven from glass yarn, creating a material that can be applied directly to walls without the need for pre-plastering or extensive preparation. Because these coverings come pre-pigmented and pre-pasted, they will be ready for painting once they have been fitted into place, speeding up the completion process considerably. In addition, the versatility of this fabric means that myriad designs and finishes can be ordered if preferred.

Meanwhile, the hard-wearing Opti products, with Systexx, are more appropriate for surfaces susceptible to areas with high traffic and frequent cleaning. This means it is ideal for hospitals, hotels, council properties, school corridors, factories, offices and public areas, as well as for domestic applications in kitchens, bathrooms, halls, stairs and landings. The waterborne coatings optimise performance; the premium OPTIBACT option is an anti-microbial paint containing a silver-ion anti-microbial additive which reduces the build-up of bacteria by 99.99%.

Systexx has been used at St Richards Hospice, Chichester, St Richards’ Development Officer, Michael Wadey, had no hesitation in deciding that they should be used in Donald Wilson Neurological Rehabilitation Centre as well. He said, “We are very happy with the glass wall covering in the main hospital and we believe that it is the best available option for Donald Wilson Neurological Rehabilitation Centre.”

University Hospital, Heidelberg, Germany. Professor Hans G Sonntag, former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Heidelberg said, “Glass deco fabrics do not provide any kind of breeding ground for micro-organisms. These surfaces are easy to disinfect and the material is

unchanged even after 20 yes of extreme stress.”

Finally, Wallguard Systems are utilised extensively in various different industries and locations. Recent Systexx projects include Sheltered Housing and communal areas at Greenwich council. Then Brent Housing Partnership used the Systexx system for their properties communal areas.

Fire protection projects have included fire door upgrades and general fire stopping works to the Port Lympne Mansion, door renewals in student accommodation and lecture halls at the Oxford University Christchurch. Completing works at such esteemed organisations further emphasises the

level of dependability and superiority Wallguard Systems has over businesses offering similar sorts of products and services.

The company’s goal is to merge the very latest fire protection technology with high quality standards in order to guarantee customer safety, which is critical in this industry.

Wallguard have a distribution network covering the UK and provide full training to all Systexx applicators.

Building and Construction Review is proud to commend Gemini Adhesives Ltd for achieving its prestigious Commitment to Excellence award.

The adhesive & flooring profile solutions company was established in 2003 by founders and brothers Andy and Chris Douglas. It was initially formed to manufacture and supply Grabfast spray adhesives but rapid progression saw the group branch out into the world of contract flooring. The team quickly achieved worldwide status and their products were soon considered a number one brand in the industry.

The ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14021 accredited company is a highly regarded manufacturer of the most technically advanced range of adhesives and flexible extrusions available today. “No-one else offers the services we do,” commented Andy Douglas, Managing Director at Gemini Adhesives Ltd. “What we do is completely unique. We offer the only PVC solution in the UK that is completely free from phthalates, and we are the only company in the UK that manufactures its profiles alongside the

adhesives, ensuring full compatibility.

“We set off on this particular journey in order to protect the sales we currently had in contract flooring. Both our PVC and adhesives are manufactured in-house and have been proven to remain fully functional in the long term.”

Andy and Chris kick-started the enterprise after encountering major flooring problems in their line of work. With cap and covering flooring profiles failing and skirting boards hanging from their hinges, it became clear that a solution needed to be created in order to effectively combat this potentially hazardous issue.

One of their main concerns was that usual efforts to reinstate de-bonded capping leave open adhesives, which is impossible to hygienically maintain as it creates a breeding ground for germs. It also became apparent that under certain conditions plasticiders can escape from the structure of the PVC, contributing to the softening of the adhesive,

which subsequently results in its failure to function.

After stringent testing procedures, the answer

was finally put forward by Gemini Adhesives:

its entirely new phthalate-free PVC and compatible adhesive solution. The hard-wearing and robust product has made a significant impact in the marketplace, particularly

amongst architects and specifiers.

The business, which is based in Leicestershire, has an additional manufacturing facility in Bolton in order to better facilitate the ever-growing demand. Its specialist services and products are utilised in many industries for various different applications; which is one of the reasons the brand remains at the forefront of the sector. Its main clients are typically hospitals, schools, kitchens and flooring contractors, as it primarily serves those in catering, healthcare, leisure and education.

Andy concluded, “Our systems are reliable, long-lasting and sustainable. We have spent most of our time focusing on product development, so we are now looking at expanding our coverage. We plan to do this by strengthening our marketing strategies and securing attendance at relevant trade shows.”

The Gemini Adhesives team are set to attend the Contract Flooring Exhibition, which will take place from the 20-22 September 2015 at Harrogate.

Commitment to Excellence

Your perfect drilling companionBuilding and Construction Review is pleased to present Marxman with its highly acclaimed Commitment to Excellence profile.

Self-employed maintenance man Martin Chard is the innovator behind this unique and exciting new company, set up in 2011.

After encountering frequent frustrating incidents whilst fitting kitchens, bathrooms and putting up shelving, the entrepreneur decided to take the problem into his own hands and create a solution that would make marking drilling positions on any surface, easy, quick and clear.

Introducing the tool to replace all conventional methods of marking: Marxman! This simple British-made product eliminates difficulties commonly experienced in the marking and drilling of surfaces by both professional tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts alike.

“Marxman is completely unique, there is no other product that works like it,” commented Martin. “Every tool bag should have one.”

“Because we wanted a quality product, we held out until we had a prototype that was well constructed,” added Martin’s wife and business partner Jenny. “The tool cuts the time it takes to do the job in half, giving tradesmen the opportunity to significantly shorten what can be a very long and inaccurate, frustrating procedure.”

Marxman replaces the need for over sharpened

pencils and felt tips; which is a relief considering these instruments are largely ineffective in doing the job properly. As a fluorescent green spray, the multi award-winning marker can be seen on all types of surfaces, from pebble dash, wood and tile to brick and metal, making it an invaluable item for any workman’s toolbox.

Increasing efficiency and ease, Marxman delivers a surge of brightly coloured dry chalk when pressed into fixing holes of varying depths and diameters, spraying a visible dot. when pushed directly onto a surface both models spray a cross for a reference point, making building, installing and measuring a stress-free process for workers everywhere, and the chalky burst is easy to brush off most surfaces afterwards so it isn’t problematic if a mistake is made!

Available in two forms, the easy-to-operate tool uses non-toxic ingredients and has a very low global warming potential. The original product, the Standard Marxman, marks through depths of 45mm and under, whilst the Deephole Marxman can be used through depths of 45mm and over, so no matter the application, all tasks can be seen to accordingly with heightened productivity and simplicity.

The finished product was first introduced at the Totally DIY: Totally Tools 2015, where it proved to be a great success, clinching the prize of Best DIY Product. Marxman was selected for being ‘the most simple yet cunningly clever product with a true understanding of consumer needs that is both time-saving and well-communicated.’

“As a new product there is plenty of scope for development and expansion,” Jenny concluded. “We hope to improve the product by using varying colours for specific jobs, adding a lid and belt grip and then a light which catches the luminosity of the chalk. Going forwards, we

are looking to attract a major distributor for the product.”

Marxman is currently on sale in small DIY, electrical and tile shops and via the company website at: www.marxmanpen.co.uk. The pens will also be available to purchase at The Build Show, during construction week, which will take place at the Birmingham NEC from 6th-8th October 2015. At a retail price of just £9.95 and with the capability to deliver over 200 sprays, Marxman is a product well worth your investment!

Building and Construction Review is proud to announce that SnagR Software Ltd has been chosen for achieving its highly commended Commitment to Excellence profile.

SnagR is a highly advanced and incredibly unique web and mobile site inspection and defect management system. This exciting innovation effectively replaces the need of frustratingly messy, confusing and tedious paperwork systems (which can be prone to

human error) and eases the data collection procedure within a variety of different projects.

This is a beneficial alternative because as a fully comprehensive and user friendly digitized process, it is a much quicker and more reliable way of handling snagging and inspection. It works through efficient image capturing (of any snag or inspection made), which is then be plotted on drawings with a simple click and then communicated to

the concerned parties. The digital system was strategically designed to speed up the process of pinpointing, reporting and rectifying on-site construction defects.

“The idea for this software came around after a conversation I had with an architect revealed that a product which could effectively plot issues on a digital plan would be most useful,” explained Graham Henderson, Owner at SnagR Software Ltd. “Although there are

companies out there which sell similar software bundles, ours differs in the respect that it is the most easy to set up and use. It is also one of the most affordable varieties on the market.”

There are many advantages of using SnagR. Analysing issues and inspections enables individuals to see where their time and money is being lost and helps them to identify training needs and safety concerns. It is also a useful comparing tool; it allows for a clear analysis of architectural design, material quality and contractor performance. This can all be done through the gathering of photographs and other raw data, which can be collected effortlessly with the easy-to-use technology.

“SnagR software increases quality control and enables the swift delivery of useful information,” Graham continued. “This data is passed on in a timely fashion and can prove very important whilst applied to many construction projects.”

SnagR was set up in 2008 and runs from its base in Stafford. Its technology and all of its variants (which includes tools for inspection, surveying and property management) are listed on the website of Midlands-based business

Tailormade Software, but they are also available in the Middle East via the company’s partnership with Pragmatech in Qatar.

If preferred, customers can replace the automated navigation plan created by SnagR with their own custom made version. This means that they can utilise the main template set up by SnagR – which will save time and effort – whilst taking advantage of the greater visual experience made through the addition of an individually tailored site plan.

When discussing future plans, Graham was confident of further progression, “2016 is going to be the year for BIM!” he concluded. “We plan on integrating a BIM cycle which will fill in the missing link (data collection onsite), and we haave the proficiency to do this by collaborating with other BIM providers.”

Building & Construction Review is proud to announce that Gypsumtools has been presented with its highly prestigious Commitment to Excellence profile.

The company was initially established in 2011 but its relaunch last year has enabled the team to experience significant growth and development in recent times, which has propelled the Gypsumtools name to the forefront of the tooling industry.

The Leicester-based business operates from its base close to the city centre, where it occupies its own trade counter as well as running its newly renovated website and blog page, which offers useful tips and advice for tradesmen in the sector as well as DIY dabblers. The niche retailer specialises in the supply of plastering and dry lining tools but the branch also houses a tool service and repair centre for the maintenance and restoration of automatic taping tools.

“We aim to provide those within the plastering and dry lining trades with

everything they need to complete their job, but also have ranges for the general DIY’er,” explained Lana Raynor, Marketing Assistant at Gypsumtools. “Our product range consists of numerous well-known brands all under one roof, with the addition of some budget ranges to offer solutions for both the professional and DIY users.”

The company’s competences include: the provision of plastering & dry lining tools, sanders & accessories, mixing tools & equipment, PPE, holesaws & accessories and drills/drill bits & tips as well as marking & setting out, staplers & fitting and automatic taping tools & repair services. Clearance products and special offers are also available for those in search of an online bargain.

Inevitably, Gypsumtools’ main clients are those working within the plastering and dry lining trades, but its extensive range of products and general activities are utilised by general DIY’ers and those in related industries, such as electricians and carpenters. Stocking both higher range brands and specialist

names ensures that all groups can be catered for accordingly (in terms of both individual budget and capability).

Operations Director at Gypsumtools, Callum Wilson, underlined the company’s core business priorities: “We believe that customer service is key,” he commented. “We actively strive to offer our clients the best possible deal, and so we ensure to undertake research to get the

most competitive prices. The main aim is to provide our customers with an exceptionally good sales experience.”

When discussing what the future has in store for Gypsumtools, Lana concluded, “We have many plans for the business, including updates and additional features to our website, so watch this space! But one of the next additional services for us to offer will be a taping tool hire and leasing service, which will hopefully be up

and running by the end of September.”

Callum was also confident of continued progression, “We are constantly growing here at Gypsumtools,” he said. “We always acquire new brands and work strategically to develop our website, coming up with different ideas which will help the business to advance further in the future.”

Hauraton, Europe’s foremost manufacturer of sustainable surface water drainage solutions, has recently completed works at the Heslington East Campus, situated on the grounds of the University Of York.

The company, which is based in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, has dealt with many difficulties whilst undergoing drainage jobs at different locations, but has always weathered them effectively to achieve admirable and professional results.

Its venture at Heslington East Campus is an example of this. As the site at the University of York is relatively flat, the installation of deep drains wasn’t possible. This meant that rainwater from roofs, roads and pathways had to be directed in a series of culverts, surface drainage channels and rills, eventually discharging into a lake.

The Sustainable Urban Drainage Scheme included the control of rainwater from roofs via downpipes into a series of buried, stepped shallow culverts made from two sizes of FASERFIX®SUPER channel fitted with solid ductile iron covers. Surface water drainage with ductile iron gratings were provided in the same channel runs where channels crossed paved footpaths or asphalted areas.

Pairs of FASERFIX®SUPER 300 channels fitted

with solid covers were also installed adjacent to each other in the rills to create tunnels under roadways and paths. RECYFIX®SLOTTED channels with their unobtrusive galvanised slot inlets were specified for the pedestrian routes and concourses.

When discussing this particular project, Colin Taff, Hauraton’s Project Engineer, commented, “Over 1,600 metres of Hauraton drainage channel have been installed by Howard Civil Engineering Limited with no breakages reported during the installation stages.”

Hauraton has completed commissions for many important organisations; its portfolio is incredibly varied as the team have finished groundworks at several educational establishments, industrial plants and leisure facilities (amongst others).

Hauraton’s most recent projects include: s Hauraton channels used as

perimeter drainage at Brooke Church of England School

s Hauraton surface drainage at the New Shetland Gas Plant

s FASERFIX® KS drainage system at Oil Salvage Ltd (Terminal)

s RECYFIX®HICAP® channels on Yas Marina Circuit

s The DRAINFIX®CLEAN system used as a solution for the draining, collection

and treatment at source of storm water runoffs

s Car park drainage system at the Community Sports Complex in Doncaster

s Drainage channels for the Tondu Primary School near Bridgend, South Wales

s Hauraton drainage channels used at Penarth Learning Community School

s RECYFIX® GREEN grass reinforcement modules installed at Banovallum School, Horncastle, Lincolnshire.

Insulation News

Sundolitt releases new UK Specifier Support Literature for XPSSundolitt – the UK arm of Sunde Group, Europe’s leading polystyrene products manufacturer – has launched a new set of specifier support literature aimed at helping construction and civil engineers, building contractors, architects and building materials distributors to select quickly and easily from a wide range of options of density, thickness, size and format of XPS board to suit every application.

Sundolitt XPS is an extremely durable, thermal insulation board which is not only lightweight but

is also able to withstand extreme loads. Its water resistance means it can be stored and installed in severe wet weather conditions with no risk of deterioration throughout its life. XPS is easy to cut and customise on site with no special equipment or tools required. XPS has proven performance in a wide range of construction applications including commercial and domestic flooring, inverted roofing, cold stores and civil engineering projects such as car parks, landscaping, rail, airport and road building activities. XPS is also ideal as a large void fill where strength and durability are essential to safety, stability and longevity.

Philip Cheshire, Sundolitt’s UK General Manager said, “XPS is an outstanding product and is already well accepted by many construction and civil engineers across the UK but we wanted to make specification easier for those who may not be fully aware of its potential. We have launched a new six page overview of the credentials of the material as well as a new product data sheet which outlines all of the options available to the

professional specifier as well as indicating which of the popular specifications are available ex-stock for urgent projects.”

XPS from Sundolitt comes as a rebated (ship lap) board to minimise thermal bridging as well as a butt edge board. It’s available in compressive strength/densities from 250 to 700kPa (EN826) and thicknesses from 20mm – 180mm. Other options include an embossed surface to facilitate adhesion to coatings and finishes, a tongue and groove edge and drainage lined boards with non-woven membrane. Thermal conductivity starts at 0.033W/mK to EN13164.

The new specifier literature also stresses the strong environmental credentials of Sundolitt XPS which – being 100% CO2 blown – uses no harmful greenhouse gases during manufacture. The material can be recycled when recovered at the end of its life. The company also states that with the built-environment accounting for 40% of Europe’s energy consumption, the greater energy efficiency that comes from using products such as Sundolitt XPS can, in some cases, reduce total energy consumption in buildings and structures by 75%.

The new specifier literature is available by contacting Sundolitt’s UK expert team who can also help and advise architects and specifiers on the most appropriate specification for their needs.

Please call the Sundolitt UK Head Office on: +44 (0)1786 471586 or email: [email protected].

Top Quality, Cost-Effective Timber Frame Structures

Established in 2008 by D.Prescott, S.Prescott, M.Bean and D.Grantley, Yorkshire Timber Engineering has seen significant growth in the years to follow. Its rapid progression has enabled the business to become one of Yorkshire’s leading providers of roof trusses, engineered floor joists and timber frame solutions.

The specialists, who are based in Beverley, East Yorkshire, design and manufacture timber frame buildings, trussed rafters, holiday lodges and engineered floor beams. Services include consultations, design concepts, the provision of materials and on-site deliveries, ensuring customers receive support as well as quality results throughout the whole process.

Yorkshire Timber Engineering focuses on high quality construction, efficient build times and greater cost controls in order to go above and beyond its clients’ expectations. Developing effective, long-term partnerships with developers, contractors and architects (as well as customers) has enabled the company to secure an enviable reputation and a prominent position at the forefront of the construction sector.

The timber frame solutions come at a fixed price and they all meet current building regulations to outperform steel or concrete materials in fire tests. Not only are they environmentally friendly, but they also have an exceptional thermal and acoustic performance and deliver significant project savings.

The roof trusses are a highly engineered

product constructed from kiln dried, planed all round timbers and engineered steel nail plates which act as a sturdy support system for the roof coverings, snow loads, ceiling finishes, storage, water tanks and other requirements. Considered the most cost-effective solution for the majority of roofs in the UK, roof trusses use 40% less timber than other methods and they ensure lower labour costs as pre-fabricated components are utilised.

The ecojoist floor beams are a natural progression from timber frame walls and trussed rafters. Available in six different sizes (ranging from 195mm to 425mm), ecojoists have many practical benefits. Its lightweight construction ensures a reduction of site wastage, minimal shrinkage and an elimination of surface run pipework. In addition, economical roofs of prefabricated lightweight trussed rafters can be designed for all applications, from the build of small extensions to large commercial schemes.

Yorkshire Timber Engineering understands the benefits of using timber frame as opposed to the more traditional construction method (with bricks and blocks). Robust timber frame structures have increased logistical efficiencies, quicker build times and are of premium quality, making them a solid option for the formation of various buildings (from large multi-storey apartment blocks to traditional houses and extensions).

When the pioneering Hebburn Eco Centre needed to replace its 20-year-old ground source heating, the building’s owners turned to a cascade air source heat pump system from Mitsubishi Electric.

Designed and built by Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle (STAN) and opened in 1996, the Eco Centre was a pioneering venture to demonstrate renewable technologies and sustainable design.

Today the Eco Centre remains one of Europe’s most sustainable buildings.

The building is the Groundwork Trust's headquarters, which has a mission to support local communities and therefore also lets out 16 office spaces, as well as daily hire of its Board and Conference rooms.

The office complex was originally built with a very green ethos in mind, with all materials recycled from sustainable sources, including re-used bricks from a demolished factory, an aluminium roof re-smelted from old drink cans,

wood from farmed forests and woollen carpets.

It also has high levels of insulation to reduce the amount of energy needed to heat the building and keep the occupants warm.

Electricity is generated by an on-site wind turbine and photovoltaic display, helping to ensure that the award-winning project has become an exemplar of sustainability.

“The ground source system had worked well but it was getting on a bit, so Groundwork took the decision to replace it with an air source system,” explains Jason Oakes, Business Development Director of Oakes Energy, who installed the four Ecodan units.

“What they needed though, was a new system that could work with the existing infrastructure and one that could cope with a variable demand for heating throughout the year.”

Oakes Energy worked with Minden Wood

Consultants to find an ideal solution, which turned out to be four Ecodan 14kW air source heat pumps working together in a cascade system.

“We looked at all the available options and the Mitsubishi Electric solution combined the best performance available with the complete flexibility needed for the building’s multi-occupant use,” said Consultant Nick Harley of Minden Wood Consultants.

The purpose-built, two-storey building provides tenancies for local start-up businesses, along with support for local jobs, job creation and social enterprise. The building offers 16 offices to let, ranging in size from 30sq m to 104sq m.

The Eco Centre conference room is renowned as an excellent training venue and is used by both external companies and the various Groundwork STAN teams.

The building’s beautifully airy Atrium, complete with internal water feature, also provides a calm environment for

impromptu meetings and networking, as well as being a relaxing place to have lunch.

All offices have wall mounted trunking including power points and can be adapted for data points. The building has communal kitchens on both the ground and first floor.

Andrew Watts, Executive Director of Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle, said, “Groundwork is built on a foundation of creating sustainable, vibrant and ‘green’ communities through programmes that educate and inspire.

“Our Eco Centre has always represented the embodiment of these ideal, being environmentally friendly to its core and a place where people who hold these strong working beliefs come together.

“It was a landmark building when

constructed and it remains so today, but to ensure it continues to leave the most positive environmental footprint possible has meant a change to the heating system and a more modern upgrade.

“The added benefit of using the Ecodan system is that it offers greater control for individual offices and also qualifies for the non-domestic Renewable Heat Incentive, so this can help supplement the running costs for the next 20 years.”

The Trust has been working for over 30 years supporting the communities across the UK and with the installation of the new Ecodan system, Groundwork STAN and its Eco Centre is ready for the challenges yet to come.

Security measures you can trustThe respected business has the capability to offer clients security services such as Key Holding and Alarmed Response, CCTV Monitoring, Mobile Patrols and Security Guarding. The safe, trustworthy and cost-effective solutions provided by Acclaimed Security serve to allow peace of mind for clients who want to ensure their premises, commodities and personnel are kept well protected with the latest security systems available.

Roy Unwin, Managing Director of Acclaimed Security, said, “We are an accountable security company because we are one of the very few ACS approved business in the industry. We have won 10 awards over the last couple of years, all of which are associated with company excellence, and we are consistently commended for being a performance related achiever.”

Their award-winning GuardSafe product is remarkable because it alerts companies that a guard is present at the site, providing clients with the assurance that their business is being safely supervised. The system works using specialist boxes fitted to areas which would benefit from

regular checks, and 4 patrol routes are designated around the perimeter of a building.

Roy explained, “Every patrol route is timed, yet an extra 4 minutes is added on to each journey to ensure the guard undergoes a thorough check of the area. If the duration between each GuardSafe box is shorter than the designated patrol time, the system will reject it and the guard will have to repeat the patrol until it is completed properly.

“GuardSafe is a unique patrol logging system which works in real time. This means companies can have results within seconds – if there are any issues, they are flagged up immediately and dealt with accordingly. This is a vast difference to other businesses, whose results are typically provided after a much greater timespan – some can take as long as a month! We are proud to say that GuardSafe is a system exclusive to Acclaimed Security; no-one else in the world has it.”

Acclaimed Security’s security measures have been utilized by a number of industrial and commercial outlets and well-regarded blue-chip companies

including Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Leeds City Council, Freight Liner, Tarmac, Seabrook Crisps, Vion Foods, Brake

Brothers and Liberty Living.

Acclaimed Security has recently secured

a massive contract which they will be putting into place at some point in the foreseeable future. The agreement is highly confidential, but it will double the company’s revenue streams and will subsequently see the establishment doubling in size. This new enterprise involves work regarding terrorism and drugs control and will help combat general wrongdoing.

Industry falling short of Mandatory BIM Target, says UK Construction WeekThree quarters of construction professionals do not believe the industry is ready to meet mandatory BIM Level 2 requirements by 2016, according to research conducted by UK Construction Week in partnership with BRE, the leading authority on the built environment.

Just over 74% of respondents think the industry will fall short of this target, which is due to come into effect for all procurement projects from central government and its agencies next year. Worryingly, a further 62% of respondents replied that they do not understand what is needed in order to meet the requirements of BIM Level 2.

The research, which questioned more than 1,200 architects, contractors, developers, engineers and product

manufacturers about their experiences of BIM, revealed a number of uncertainties throughout the industry. In particular, the results uncovered a tension between the expectations of the specification

community and the perceived demand for BIM-compliant products by manufacturers and suppliers.

Nearly 71% of the non-manufacturing respondents believe that suppliers are not moving quickly enough to provide BIM ready information. This figure appears to be borne out by the survey results, with two thirds of the building product manufacturers contacted by UK Construction Week stating their products are not yet available as BIM objects. Conversely though, when questioned about the main obstacle to creating BIM-ready components, 41% of manufacturers said there is simply not enough demand for this from their customers.

British manufacturer Inta has expanded its heating and plumbing collection with the introduction of its mini shock arrestor kit, Minim, which has been developed to prevent costly leaks and repairs in combi boiler systems fitted close to a water meter.

Designed to absorb the excess pressure that causes system-critical components to fail, the Minim mini shock arrestor allows for the expansion of water between a boiler and water meter as it begins to warm up and expand due to heat transfer during use.

Installed on the cold water feed between the boiler and meter, this mini expansion vessel relieves problems associated with

pressure build up which, combined with Inta’s two-year warranty, makes it the perfect in-line ‘fit and forget’ solution to protect your property from unforeseen water damage.

Stuart Gizzi, Managing Director at Inta, said, “Leaks and water damage in the home can be expensive, inconvenient and stressful, so preventative measures such as this should always be fitted, where possible, for complete peace of mind.”

To find out more about Inta’s comprehensive range of plumbing and heating products visit: www.intatec.co.uk or call: +44 (0)1889 272180.

Burst pesky system bubbles with Inta-VentInta is making trapped wind a thing of the past with a new tool that automatically extracts air bubbles from sealed heating systems using a powerful vortex filtration system.

The Inta-Vent Daerator puts paid to common problems in commercial and domestic heating appliances, such as noisy pipes, increased wear on system components, cold spots in radiators and corrosion.

The filter works by forcing water in the system to pass through a tight coil of stainless steel mesh, generating a vortex within the filter body. This action exposes

and captures micro bubbles, which then combine and rise before being discharged.

As well as reducing the risk of system wear and tear, Inta-Vent increases fuel efficiency by ensuring systems are operating with optimum conditions, increasing both their longevity and day-to-day performance.

Boasting a sturdy solid brass construction and available in 22 and 28mm, the filter is quick and easy to fit, with full 360° installation.

Royal Institution of Chartered SurveyorsDevolution may be a step in the right direction to rebalancing the UK’s growth, however its strategy and execution need to be carefully thought through.

As expected in the Budget, the Government has moved forward with its plans for the decentralisation of powers to cities and regions through its Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill.

This redistribution of decision-making authority is something that RICS fully supports, as part of the overall drive to rebalance the economy.

However, our concern is that there is still great uncertainty about exactly what the new powers will entail for local authorities; and how these will fit together as part of a coherent framework of governance.

RICS recommends the development of a prospectus to give local authorities – and their many delivery partners – a chance to see what is on offer as part of the devolution agenda. Without clarity on key aspects, there is a risk of adding yet more confusion to

an already intricate planning and delivery pipeline.

To counter this, we’d like to see the establishment of a clear leadership function to fast track the delivery of major projects in the form of Development Delivery Units (DDUs), under LEPs or combined authorities. Armed with the appropriate powers and expertise, these bodies would help to drive the delivery of construction contracts and enforce the Duty of Cooperation between regional partners.

Why Architects should consider development finance for their clientsArchitects tend to be one of the first ports of call for a Property Developer looking to get a new project off the ground. Being involved so early means there is often a long wait between the first plans and breaking ground. Ralph Black, CEO of Commercial Finance Brokers UK (CFBUK), suggests there is a way architects can accelerate this process.

Pulling together a mini project team can secure the place of the Architect as right-hand man to the Developer so they may:

s Get the project up and running with minimum delay

s Potentially save considerable time and effort s Provide all parties with security of

payment direct from the lender s Strengthen the relationship with your client s Build your brand and enhance your

reputation.

Introducing an independent, whole of market Commercial Finance Broker onto the team early on makes the Architect central to project management. The Broker can use their experience to match the client’s project with secured, competitive finance to get the project up and running.

The value of this additional service is huge. Overall the Architect has provided a streamlined process that gets a joined-up project team working together without delay to deliver the project on time and on budget.

The UK’s leading environmental screed solution

Gyvlon is the UK and Ireland’s market leading manufacturer and innovator of recycled anhydrite binder for use in flowing screeds and supplier of milled anhydrite. 20 years of experience in production, development and supply in the UK has enabled the company to secure a firm place at the forefront of the industry.

Gyvlon Flowing Floor Screed Products are solutions which have been strategically developed over the last 20 years to accommodate many building specification requirements, including thin bonded/unbonded/ floating, floor levelling, high performance encapsulation for underfloor heating and high point loading solutions.

Two years ago, Gyvlon were procured by the Minersa group, a Spanish multinational mining and chemical production company with a long standing history of anhydrite binder production. Merging with the organisation who manufactures the by-products used in screeds means that all materials can be developed efficiently in-house. This liaison has subsequently made Gyvlon the only UK binder production company to have this exclusive access to a HF production with technical control over the anhydrite and multiple European production facilities.

What makes Gyvlon stand out is that their floor screeds are based on a unique synthetic anhydrite binder, as opposed to typical OPC cement, which ensures a significant difference is made in terms of their fluid application. Gyvlon products have many benefits, such as better underfloor heating performance, larger bay

sizes, higher compressive and flexural strength and lower shrinkage ability.

“Here at Gyvlon, we prioritise material quality and consistency,” Jonathan Plews, Commercial Manager at Gyvlon, explained. “With our vertical integration we are guaranteed supply of high specification raw materials, allowing us to offer a highly consistent high quality product whilst being incredibly cost-effective as well. Our products have high recycle content and a low carbon content, so they are more eco-friendly, and they are distinguished for providing a smoother surface finish.”

Gyvlon screeds aren’t only used as direct placements for sand cement; they also serve great purpose as part of a building system in order to achieve specific design requirements. These specialist systems are the result of extensive research and development work carried out by Gyvlon and are aimed at

underfloor heating, thin lay, structural solutions and acoustic/thermal performance. The Gyvlon technologies can also be used to answer a number of floor specification issues common in modern building.

As well as providing their general/eco screeds, Gyvlon have developed two specialist products with distinct purposes and applications. The first, titled Thermio+, is the UK's first screed specifically designed for use with underfloor heating, offering unbeatable thermal conductivity and diffusivity. The product is compatible with any underfloor heating system, and aids performance improvement over sand, cement and other flowing screeds.

The latest product, Excelio, is a flowing screed made purposely for usage in the floor construction industry. This comes in the form of the thinnest ready mix screed solution possible and is designed to bridge the gap between bagged SLU materials and bonded sand cement screeds.

Jonathan emphasised that the Gyvlon representatives use their extensive expertise in the marketplace to assist clients with all of their associated queries, “Our specialists can provide comprehensive construction solutions. Experienced staff members can look at design criteria and decide which solution is best for specific projects, taking into consideration underfloor heating,

design, and technical mechanisms.”

Gyvlon have been involved with various projects, working alongside organisations such as the Nuttery in Ightham, Chorlton High School, Birmingham University, The Shard, and the Greenwich Square in London.

Their soaring success is indisputably going to continue well into the future, as the company plan on progressing further with more innovative concepts. “In the short term, we will continue educating the market in screeds and the related technology,” Jonathan concluded, “Our long term plans involve ongoing product expansion; we are aiming to develop one or two new products every year, all based on solving construction-based industry issues.”

When discussing their prominence at trade shows, Jonathan said Gyvlon were met with fantastic feedback at recent events, “We recently attended the EcoBuild, where we launched our newest product, Excelio. It went extremely well – our products were incredibly well received and the whole show was a great success – so much so that we have already booked ourselves in for the next edition, which will take place in 2016.”

Stihl, Skanska and Cskills Awards join forces to put The Spotlight on Cut-off Saw SafetySTIHL GB, Skanska and Cskills Awards, the awarding organistion of CITB, held an event last month in light of their collaboration that will help to ensure the construction industry is trained and qualified following an increase in petrol cut-off saw injuries.

The event aimed to raise awareness for the Cskills Awards training qualification for cut-off saw users and encourage organisations to register to upskill their employees. It was also announced that the course now includes abrasive wheel training, so delegates no longer need to attend two separate courses to gain certification.

The course was created following an incident in November 2012. Skanska, one of the world’s leading project development and construction groups, made contact with STIHL GB following a serious workplace accident that involved one of their contractors.

Following a lengthy investigation it was found that there were a number of user

errors in the common usage practices of petrol driven cut-off saws that were affecting rail, civil engineering and construction sectors of the industry.

The worrying findings spurred Skanska to approach and collaborate with STIHL GB, a leading outdoor power equipment manufacturer, to produce a comprehensive training programme for cut-off saw users that is now available through Cskills Awards.

Richard Whiting, Commercial Manager at HAE, attended the event. He commented,

“The event was excellent, as is the course. This is a step in the right direction for the industry.”

The event was held this month at the Leicester Tigers home ground and saw STIHL GB sponsorship partners, the Leicester Tigers, share their experiences with safety on the field alongside cut-off saw demonstrations and presentations detailing the training programme with Cskills Awards.

The programme now has companies such as Skanska making it mandatory for any contractor to complete the Cskills Awards PDCOS (Petrol Driven Cut-Off Saw) training course before using a cut-off saw on their sites.

If you are interested in learning more about this valuable training programme, please contact STIHL GB Learning & Development Manager, Caroline Wallace on: +44 (0)7785 971540 or at: [email protected].

Water repelling masonry protectionGlobal pressures to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions are increasing.

Buildings make a significant contribution to greenhouse gas emissions: the way they are heated, lit and used accounts for about 40% of all the UK’s carbon emissions. In 2009, it was reported that 25% of total emissions was attributable to domestic buildings.

The walls of a building can account for a large proportion of the heat lost through its fabric, and there are pressures to design and adapt buildings to improve their thermal performance. The UK Government’s commitment to an 80% reduction by 2050 from 1990 levels means that efforts to improve the energy efficiency of our existing buildings are intensifying.

However, increasing the thermal resistance of masonry and especially traditional solid walls can be problematic. Cladding systems and cavity wall insulation can sometimes create more building problems than they solve. This is not just an aesthetic concern; changing balances between heat, air and moisture movement may also affect the integrity of a building, affecting the health of its occupants with damp and mould issues.

The clear masonry protection treatment – ProShield XT works at the molecular level to actively impregnate and bond to mineral surfaces such as brick, stone and concrete. By creating a strong but invisible protective surface, water is repelled, protecting against rain penetration, dirt, algae, pollution, oil and other surface contaminates with a ‘lotus effect’ self cleaning action.

ProShield XT masonry protection treatment not only protects, but actively maintains original colour and look of building structures whilst allowing masonry to breathe naturally.

ProShield XT repels rain penetration and is scientifically proven to reduce heat loss in single skin masonry, with an energy saving in space heating of up to 20% – one single coat application is all that is needed.

Cream based system – ProShield XT cream is based on a chemical composition of siloxanes and silanes, which line the pores of the masonry to form a water-repellent polymer matrix. Rather than blocking the pores and fissures the masonry is allowed to breathe whilst repelling water. Being a cream rather than an aquaeous solution enables more contact time with less wastage, allowing maximum penetration into the substrate. ProShield XT reduces masonry salt blooming (efflorescence) and minimizes the effects of frost damage or spalling.

Due to its unique formulation and deep penetration, ProShield XT is resistant to UV light and other forms of degradation, resulting in surface protection for up to 25 years between applications.

• Specifically designed for concrete, clay roof tiles, wall brick facades and mineral surfaces• Self-cleaning, water-repellent, reconstructive• Suitable for all mineral surfaces• Allows masonry to breathe• Scientifically engineered to cover and protect surfaces• Eco-friendly, water based and easy to apply• Repels dirt and dust• Prevents growth of moss, algae and lichens.

Mosaic Assemblers specialise in the design and supply of unique mosaic tiles for use in domestic and commercial areas worldwide.

The Irish owned company was established in 1969 and has since gained an outstanding international reputation for creating exceptional mosaic pieces. It was founded by the late Patricia Morrison who had a vision to supply assembled mosaic all over the world. That vision is now a reality with a dedicated showroom and assembly hub in Fonthill Business Park, beside Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.

The outstanding creations can be seen worldwide with completed projects in Ireland, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, Spain, Dubai, Australia, USA, Canada, Korea, Oman, Japan, Norway and Eastern Europe.

“We are well known for our expertise when it comes to mosaic, having earned our reputation by hard work, creativity and attention to detail,” commented Peter Morrison, Managing Director at Mosaic Assemblers. “Our clients include world-famous fashion houses, rock stars, racing drivers, footballers and Hollywood celebrities.

“What is exciting about the way we’re using mosaic now is the scope to give our clients something really unique. We are working with architects, designers and the general public to assist them to create a brand where the mosaic becomes an integral part of how the end user interacts with the space. Now that could be someone’s garden path that they enjoy strolling down every day, the exterior wall of your apartment block, or the floor in your favourite

local boutique or bar – people just love the look and feel of mosaic. In essence what we’re about here at Mosaic Assemblers is unleashing people’s imaginations!”

As a result of this flexible and unique approach to assembly, different tile finishes can be applied on the same sheet and so create an individual look for any location. An example of this would be to mix glazed and satin finish or unglazed and glass mosaic together on the one sheet. This ability allows a huge range of colour and finish options to be combined on the one sheet.

Ranges are available for floors, walls, internal and external cladding. Supplied on mesh or paper face, sizes vary from 10mm to 100mm and come in all shapes including square, round, hexagonal, triangular or broken style. They can be fixed to various surfaces, internally and externally, in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.
