Syllabus by ukpsc covers everything in the indian polity domain. Moreover, anyone
preparing for upsc has to coveronlyuttrakhand political spectrum and challenges
Weightage:
Under this section, the important topics are distributed against no. Of questions asked and
marks allotted. Total no. Of question is 39 while in the 3rd and 4th sections choices are
available . In the 3rd section 5 out of 7 are compulsory and so does in the 4th section
Hence, Weight distribution is against total of 248 marks rather than the maximum marks
of 200
TRENDS:
The papers were easy to moderate in 2016. They were almost similar to the ukpsc 2012
mains levels. It has been seen in many papers that questions from uttrakhand are far
insightful than the one asked in previous papers. Hence it can be easily deduced that
skipping uttrakhand can be a blunder. Apart ukpsc continues to ask the basic questions
heavily. So learning the basics intensely is a mantra to have the edge over others.

Indian polity is quite an interesting subject. Mere public awareness can fetch you average
marks. International relations on the other hand instills a diplomatic touch which is
prerequisite in public dealings.
Mostly it is the easiest of all the disciplines.
Imp. Question and syllabus field:
1.Basics/static
Largest part in polity question paper is the static one. It can be covered with the basic
knowledge of the the subject . A good reading of M laxmikant or a ncert would be
suffice. As we can see ques no. 1,3,4,5,10,11,13(2MARKERS),16,17,18,21,22(5
markers),26,32 and 36 (8 marker)belongs to this part. Relatively largest static portion
yields highest cost to benefit is the beauty of the subject.
As we know Polity do not cover everything under the sun. The first few chapters of
Polity like Preamble and Fundamental Rights, the Executive and the Parliament
,international bodies cannot be ignored at any cost. We can see some of the questions
covered from basic portion
2.Analytical /dynamic
Civil service demand the analytical aspect too. This proportion requires dynamic thinking
, regular calibration and refinement of learned knowledge.
The question below raise issues of judicial review, permanent Seat at unsc, judicial
activism an other. This is a tricky part and can be attempted once basics is clear
Questions in the paper from this part are 7,24,25(5markers),28,29,30
(8markers),33,35,37,39(16 markers)

health policy are good one in this regard. Questions asked from current affairs are 2,14,15
(2 markers),19,38.
4.Newspaper

functioning of national organisation as well answer few simple questions like
5.Uttrakhand
Without covering the state agencies, political/economical/geographical landscape ,it is
difficult to have the cutting-edge to land on the final merit list. Some of the easiest
refrences can be taken from arihant and winsar publications.
