This application allows subscribers to make use of two or more lines (IMSI numbers) without having to purchase more than one SIM Card.

For example the subscriber can hold a business IMSI and a personal IMSI on the same SIM Card, or this feature also allows prepaid/ postpaid swapping features on a single SIM card.

ADVANTAGES:

•It could prevent subscribers from having a personal SIM Card with one network and a business SIM Card with another network or vice versa.  •The network Operator could for example offer subscribers a multi IMSI card which will keep all the subscriber’s business (both personal and business) within their own network.•Subscribers would only need to purchase one phone whilst still having the luxury of having two IMSI numbers.•Roaming costs could be reduced as partner networks (preferential rates) could be selected

Dual/Multi IMSI

Single IMSI V Multi IMSI

• Domestic Mobile Network Operators (MNO) usually provide Single Network SIM cards (aka Single-IMSI).

• A Single Network GSM Connectivity service allows to connect to a single network per country.

• BUT…depending on the national and international roaming agreements, the same SIM cards may be able to connect to multiple MNOs when roaming in a different country or even at the original country (e.g., Free Mobile subscribers can connect to the O2 network in United Kingdom ).

Benefits of Multi IMSI• Coverage. Access to multiple Pakistan and United Kingdom networks

increases the overall network coverage within the regions that they operate

• Redundancy. Multi-IMSI SIM cards increase the redundancy of the network at multiple levels (e.g. radio access, operator interconnection and core network). If for some reason, one operator or one subscription fails, the SIM card will try and connect through other operators and using other subscriptions.

• Quality. A Multi-IMSI SIM card can more easily be steered to connect to a different network, • For example if current network has an unusual high latency

forwarding traffic, has bandwidth issues or is throttling traffic (e.g., network overloaded due to a local promotion to its subscribers), the Joint-IMSI SIM card can be configured over the air to connect to an alternative network.

The Cost Benefits….

• Multiple subscriptions (i.e., IMSIs), mean the ability to be configured to use the IMSIs that provide a lower cost and that cost savings can be transferred from the operator providing the SIM card to its customer.

• This lowers the cost compared the users domestic GSM provider.
