I NEVER HOP ON A PLANE WITHOUT MY iphone, camera and kindle AND IN MY SUITCASE YOULL ALWAYS FIND adaptors, my mini hairdyer (good for drying both hair and clothes last minute!) and a travel journal. I CANT WATCH OR READ anything set in Paris, Croatia or London AND NOT BE INSPIRED TO TRAVEL. I RECENTLY TRAVELLED TO London WITH CREATIVE HOLIDAYS. IF I COULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO THREE THINGS THERE IT WOULD BE: go on a tour of the iconic Buckingham Palace AND get a panoramic view of the city and River Thames on the London Eye AND pick up a cute antique or vintage treasure from Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill. DONT LEAVE WITHOUT EATING a yorkshire pudding with your sunday roast AND DRINKING Pimms on a London summers day or mulled wine in winter. I STAYED AT The Rubens at the Palace AND IT WAS the ultimate royal experience, with a touch of old-world glamour. THE BEST SOUVENIR I BOUGHT WAS a festive onesie FOR my cousin. Nothing beats the freedom of travelling at your own leisure. Offering low rental rates and a hassle-free customer experience, Alamo is a value-oriented brand giving holidaymakers the opportunity to tailor their trip. Internationally recognised, Alamo allows you to venture beyond the cities and explore the UK and Europe your way all from the comfort of your very own rental car.

Driving around the UK and Europe

    TOURING TIPS

Make sure you have a valid drivers license. Although your Australian drivers license is valid in the UK and Europe, its best to apply for an International Drivers License to be completely covered. Also take note, most car rental agencies in Europe require a minimum age of 25 to rent a car, but this age limit varies by country. Get in touch with your car rental agency in advance. That way, you can assess rates, specials and availability without being caught out last minute. Double-check what car youre hiring. Often, European rentals are stick shift so if youre only comfortable with an automatic, make sure you mention it in advance. Authorities can trace parking tickets back to your credit card. So pay the fine if you get caught for the crime! Review European street signs and driving laws before you get behind the wheel. Its always best to have an idea of how things work before you attempt to drive in foreign areas.

Some major highways have tolls, so make sure that you travel with plenty of loose change. Certain lanes do take credit cards but the conversion cost is actually higher than the tolls youre better off paying cash.Casey The Travel Corporation, Junior Graphic Designer

    EUROPES MOST SCENIC ROUTES

Atlantic Highway, England The Atlantic Highway stretches from mid-Cornwell to North Devon, alongside the spectacular Atlantic Ocean coastline. Get onto the A39 at Bridgwater and head west. Look right for stunning ocean cliffs and beaches, left for wild, rolling hills. Youll pass the seaside town of Bude, the quaint fishing port of Padstow (Britains foodie capital), and then continue on to Newquay, the king of the UK surf scene.

TT Course, Isle of Man While the TT route is famous as a race circuit, theres something to be said for taking your time while driving the Isle of Man. Slow down the speed and youll enjoy breathtaking views of moorlands and mountains, and the sometimes snow-topped Snaefell Mountain. Or, if you just cant help but embrace your inner racer, put your pedal to the metal and devour the entire 37.7 mile course in one single, unbroken lap (remember speed limits do apply!). Sweaty palms and pounding heart guaranteed.

The Grand Tour, Switzerland, France and Italy Taking The Grand Tour, from Switzerland through France to Italy, was a popular middle class pastime of the 17th century. However, the route is just as spectacular today. Start your tour at the beautiful Lake Lman waterfront in Geneva, and head along the south shore into France. Continue south to the Mont-Blanc tunnel, a seven-mile tunnel that stretches beneath the highest Alp. When you emerge, youll be deep in Italys Aosta Valley. Make your way through Italy, stopping at charming country towns, and taking in the seaside beauty of Le Cinque Terre, before heading back up the Alps to the sophisticated city of Milan.

a traditional afternoon tea. Pop into the Savoys historic Thames Foyer for delicious scones, finger sandwiches and every tea imaginable.

Architecture and design lovers will enjoy the Rolling Bridge, an inconspicuous octahedron that unfurls into a footbridge over the Paddington Basin every Friday at midday.

Covent Garden is packed with markets, boutiques and great eating and drinking spots. Its a popular tourist haunt, so can get crowded, but its well worth visiting.

    How to Go-As-You-Please

Go-As-You-Please (GAYP) car touring holidays provide complete freedom and flexibility, allowing you to create your own itinerary. There are two types of accommodation on offer in the UK:

    1. Discover The Bed & Breakfast Collection

    2. Discover Hotels & Inns

Discover the Bed & Breakfast CollectionFrom small family homes to large country estates, every property is guaranteed to offer you a warm personal welcome. Wake up to a classic English breakfast (or Continental breakfast at some London properties) and retire at the end of the day to your comfortable retreat. Choose from a deluxe en suite bedroom available in most properties or a shared bathroom option, referred to as Standard Rooms. All properties are graded from Bronze standard to Gold category, with each rating being a reflection of the quality and location. Supplements are payable directly to the property for en suite rooms, premium grading and single occupancy as relevant.

Discover Hotels & InnsThis selection of hotels and inns boast individual character, history and warmth in a range of varying sizes and styles. A mixture of independently owned and chain hotels, all properties offer a unique British experience for every traveller complete with snug bars and roaring fires. Due to the nature of the business (small and often family run), not all pubs and inns are open all day; some open for lunch but then close in the afternoon, re-opening for the evening. Please bear this information in mind when phoning to make onward bookings, or planning your arrival for a confirmed stay.

    Freedom Pass (E-vouchers)

Your travel voucher features your exclusive Discover Freedom Pass (E-voucher) number. This unique number entitles you to stay at any of the selected B&Bs, hotels or inns in the UK featured in either of the two Discover directories (subject to availability) and is valid for the number of nights you have purchased. Theres a fantastic selection of museums, galleries and theatres to explore. There are cheap eateries, stellar restaurants and countless pubs to cosy up in. And best of all, there are the people: friendly, down-to-earth Mancunians who love a good laugh and a good party.
