Communication Quality Evaluation of Emergency Call Devices, Wideband Extension

OVERVIEWThe Russian standard GOST R 55531-

2013 (ERA-GLONASS) provides test methods for verification of in-vehicle emergency call system conformity to quality requirements for loudspeaker communication in vehicle cabins.

The tests described by the standard ERA-GLONASS have been implemented by HEAD acoustics as measurement standard UG GOST R55531-WB for the communication analysis system ACQUA. This optional upgrade provides wide-band measurements as extension of the narrowband measurements contained in GOST R55531-NB (Code 60030).

UG GOST R55531-WB can be used by manufacturers and suppliers of the au-tomotive industry to qualify and optimize emergency call systems.

DESCRIPTION

The Russian standard GOST R 55531-2013 (ERA-GLONASS) defines test meth-ods regarding the communication quality of emergency call systems in cars. The requirements and measurements for the wideband range described in this standard have been implemented by HEAD acoustics for use with the communication analysis system ACQUA as measurement standard UG GOST R55531-WB.

The tests implemented in UG GOST R55531-WB cover all requirements with regard to communication quality in the wideband range. UG GOST R55531-WB allows the automated quality analysis and experimental optimization of in-vehicle emergency call systems.

UG GOST R55531-WB comprises nu-merous standard values such as loudness rating, idle channel noise in sending and receiving direction, spectral echo attenua-tion and suppression of out-of-band sig-nals. In addition, UG GOST R55531-WB takes into account several other important aspects:• Tests under different conditions for e.g.

vehicle movement (standing with en-gine switched on/off), vehicle environ-ment (quiet street, heavy-traffic route), vehicle windows (open/closed), talker location (driver seat, seat next to driver or seat back from driver), talker speech level (normal, weak, loud).

Note: Car sounds are not included

• Artificial head measurement system as “user” of the emergency call system.

• Primary focus on conversation param-eters such as double talk performance and quality of background noise trans-mission.

Some of the measurements have partially been developed out of ITU-T Recommenda-tion P.1110 for speech quality assessment of wideband car hands-free terminals.

APPLICATIONS• Automated quality analysis of

in-vehicle emergency call systems• Experimental development and

optimization of in-vehicle emergen-cy call systems

TEST SIGNALS• Composite Source Signals (CSS)• Artificial voice• Speech sequences• CSS combinations for double talk

simulation• AM/FM modulated sine signals for

echo measurements
