Match backgroundBeşiktaş JK enjoyed a happier outcome on matchday one than FC Dynamo Kyiv and will be looking to build on thatwhen the teams meet in Istanbul.

Previous meetings• The Ukrainian side have enjoyed more success in the head-to-heads, winning five of the eight meetings as againstBeşiktaş' two.

• The teams last met in Istanbul in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League group stage when a second-half goal fromEgemen Korkmaz decided matters in favour of Carlos Carvalhal's Beşiktaş.

• The line-ups at the BJK İnönü Stadyumu on 3 November 2011 were:Beşiktaş: Cenk Gönen, Ismail Köybaşı, Sivok, Quaresma, Kavlak, Almeida (Edu 87), Hilbert, Mehmet Aurélio (Uysal63), Simão (Hološko 90+2), Ernst, Korkmaz.Dynamo: Shovkovskiy, Danilo Silva, Betão, Vukojević, Aliyev, Yarmolenko, Milevskiy, Garmash (Ninković 46),Khacheridi, Yussuf, Carlos Corrêa (Brown 75).

• In the reverse fixture a late Denys Garmash goal (90+3) had given Yuri Semin's Dynamo a 1-0 win.

• The teams also met in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League round of 32 where Dynamo beat Bernd Schuster'sBeşiktaş 4-1 in Istanbul and 4-0 in Kyiv. Ricardo Quaresma scored the Turkish side's consolation in the first game andwas later sent off. Oleh Gusev scored in both games while Andriy Yarmolenko was on target in the return.

• The teams in Istanbul on 17 February 2011 were:Beşiktaş: Hakan Arıkan, İsmail Köybaşi, Sivok, Quaresma, Hilbert, Mert Nobre (Hugo Almeida 69), Bobô, Guti,Ferrari, Ernst (Erhan Güven 56), Mehmet Aurélio (Necip Uysal 80).Dynamo: Shovkovskiy, Danilo Silva, Vukojević, Shevchenko (Kravets 84), Yarmolenko (Garmash 89), Milevskiy,Mikhalik (Popov 73), Gusev, Eremenko, Yussuf, Leandro Almeida.

• The result represented Beşiktaş' heaviest home defeat in the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League.

• An even more emphatic home defeat came in the 1986/87 European Cup quarter-final when Dynamo beat Beşiktaş5-0 in Izmir, completing their passage into the semi-finals with a 2-0 home win.

Match background

Beşiktaş• A 1-1 draw at SL Benfica on matchday one came courtesy of a player from the Lisbon club, Talisca, who was loanedby Benfica to Beşiktaş last month, striking a sensational last-gasp equaliser.

• Back in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2009/10, the Turkish Süper Lig champions are hopingto negotiate the group stage hurdle for the first time at the sixth attempt.

• Seven years ago they picked up four points in their away games in Group B, winning at Manchester United FC.Losing all their home fixtures meant they finished bottom of the section.

Dynamo• Serhiy Rebrov’s side were undone by two first-half headers from Arkadiusz Milik on matchday one, SSC Napolishaking off the disappointment of conceding to Denys Garmash to win 2-1. Dynamo had Serhiy Sydorchuk sent off fortwo bookings.

• This is Dynamo's 16th group stage campaign. Last season the Ukrainian champions reached the last 16, the firsttime they had reached that stage since 1999/2000.

• They went out to Manchester City FC, losing 3-1 at home and by the same aggregate score after a goalless secondleg. In Group G they won two away games, 2-0 at both Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC and FC Porto – the latter provingdecisive in giving them a one point-advantage over the Portuguese side to finish in second place. They also lost 2-1 atChelsea FC.

• Before last season the Kyiv club had won only four of their 31 previous group stage fixtures. An improved campaignhelped them add another three wins to that total.

Coach and player links• Vincent Aboubakar scored twice for FC Porto in their 2-2 draw at Dynamo in last season's group stage.

• Rebrov spent 2002 to 2004 on loan at Fenerbahçe SK from Tottenham Hotspur FC. He scored four goals in 38league matches in his two seasons and won the 2003/04 Super League title.

Milan (1994, 1995), Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and ManchesterUnited (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose.

• Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League having featuredagainst Real Madrid on matchday six in 2007/08 aged 43 years and 252 days.
