The University gf Dayton UD CHAPEL CHOIR PERFORMS
News Release
DAYTON, Ohio, March 24, 1982 The University of Dayton Chapel Choir,
under the direction of Brother Terrence Wong, S.M., will present "An Evening
of Sacred Husic" on Wednesday, March 31 at 8 p.m. in the UD Chapel. The concert
will feature works by Schubert, Mozart, Vivaldi, Handel, Mendelssohn, and Barcroft.
Admission to the concert is free.
The University of Dayton Chapel Choir was formed in the spring of 1979.
The choir is composed largely of students from all divisions at the University.
The choir devotes two and-one-half hours each week in preparation for concerts
and religious services and sings every Sunday for the 10 a.m. campus liturgical
service. Several members of the group have formed an instrumenta l ensemble
consisting of two flutes , a viola, a cello, three recorders, and a classical guitar.
Wong has a master's degree in music with a specialization in choral conducting.
He received his education at Stanford University and San Jose State University in
California. Wong is the assistant to the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
According to Wong, the purpose of forming the Chapel Choir was threefold:
to provide an opportunity for individuals to sing and enjoy classical sacred music;
to develop a sense of community among the members ; and to give individuals an
opportunity to express a sense of fulfillment through singing, as a means of prayer.
Members of the group have mastered music from medieval to contemporary. The
group has sung for liturgical services at different Dayt on parishes, and recently
had the opportunity to sing at the famous Cathedral Basili ca of the Assumption
in Covington, Kentucky . -30-
