sChool nICkname“Bronchos” was the nickname selected for Central Oklahoma

in 1922 by Mrs. C.W. Wantland, wife of long-time UCO football coach C.W. Wantland. The name was chosen from a number of suggestions for the name of UCO’s football team and became the nickname for all athletic teams at the school.

Mrs. Wantland was made an honorary member of the Letterman’s Club as a result of selecting the nickname, becoming the first woman admitted to that organization. sChool Colors

Bronze and blue were chosen as Central Oklahoma’s school colors early in the fall of 1895 by school president Edmund Dandridge Murdaugh. The first public display of the bronze and blue was in Guthrie when a student represented UCO in the first oratorical contest ever held in Oklahoma. on the Cover

DaviD James

The dean of Central Oklahoma’s coaching staff is David James, now in his 32nd year atop the perennial pow-erhouse wrestling program and one of the premier coaches at any level of col-legiate athletics.

James, a four-time All-American and two-time national champion as a wrestler at UCO, ranks second among all college coaches at any level in na-tional championships with 12 -- seven in NCAA Division II, five in NAIA -- and has been named national Coach of the

Year seven times.David has piled up an amazing 363-126-5 dual record against some

of the top teams in the country, ranking fifth in NCAA Division II and 35th on all levels of college wrestling in career dual wins.

UCO has had 24 top-four national tournament finishes under James, including five runner-up showings, and the Bronchos have won 19 Divi-sion II regional titles in 24 tries.

D.J. has coached 46 national champions and 178 All-Americans at UCO and his career dual record includes an amazing 307-50-1 mark against non-Division I teams.

James took control of the UCO program in 1982 and led the team to a fifth-place NAIA finish and 7-6 dual record that first year. The Bronchos asserted themselves the next year with a 11-5-1 dual finish and the first of four straight NAIA championships, winning by a 33-point margin.

UCO romped to the national title by 53 3/4 points in 1985, and made it three straight in 1986 with a narrow 7 1/4-point victory. The Bronchos made it four in a row in 1987 following a 12-5 dual season.

The championship streak ended in 1988 with a narrow runner-up fin-ish, but James took UCO back to the top in its final year with the NAIA in 1989 with a 13-point margin of victory.

The Bronchos made the move up to NCAA Division II the next season and were runners-up in both 1990 and ‘91. The breakthrough season came in 1992 when UCO went 14-1 in duals and captured its first-ever Division II championship.

The Bronchos won a second consecutive title in 1993 and made it three in a row in 1994 with an overwhelming 61 3/4-point victory.

James led UCO to its fourth consecutive crown in 1995 as the Bronchos rolled up 148 points, the second-highest point total in NCAA Division II history. Central fell just short of a fifth straight title in 1996, finishing second by a narrow margin, and then was third in 1997.

The Bronchos placed fourth in 1998 and then crowned two national champions in finishing third in 1999. Another runner-up finish followed in 2000 and the Bronchos tied for third in 2001 after going 13-2-1 in duals.

UCO made it back on top in 2002, putting together a stellar 15-1 dual record and ending a six-year championship drought by crowning four individual champions in winning its 13th national team title.

James and the Bronchos repeated as title winners in 2003, going 18-1 in duals and finishing with three individual champions. Central finished third in its bid for a third straight title in 2004.

UCO had its 15-year string of Midwest Regional titles ended in 2005 en route to an 11th-place national tournament showing, but D.J.’s troops bounced back with a fourth-place national showing in 2006.

The Bronchos captured their 15th title in 2007, following a 15-4 dual season with the Midwest Regional crown and a stirring national tourna-ment performance in beating favored Nebraska-Kearney by 16 points.

UCO was 14-6 in duals, won another regional title and finished sixth nationally in 2007-08 and went 11-6-1 with a regional runner-up finish

and another sixth-place national showing in 2008-09. The Bronchos went 8-5 in duals and finished 15th nationally in 2009-10 and were 13th the following season after going 15-4 in duals.

UCO had another young squad in 2011-12, but still managed a 9-5 dual record and then won its first regional crown since 2008 before tying for 10th in the national tournament with three All-Americans.

The Bronchos had their best season since 2007 last year, going 13-1 in duals en route to a fourth-place national finish. UCO captured the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association dual title, was runner-up in the MIAA and Super Regional Two tournaments and had six All-Americans, including one champion.

James graduated UCO with a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1980 and spent one year as a graduate assistant with the Bronchos. David then served as an assistant coach at Edmond Memorial High School for one year before becoming UCO’s ninth head coach in 1982.

James ranks 13th on the school’s career win list with a 116-16 record. The Del City native was UCO’s first four-time All-American from 1976-80, finishing third as a freshman and second as a sophomore before win-ning back-to-back NAIA national titles his final two seasons.

He is a member of five hall of fames -- the NAIA Hall of Fame (1988), the UCO Athletic Hall of Fame (1991), the NCAA Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame (2005), the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (2007) and the Del City High School Hall of Fame (2008).

Serving in his second season as a graduate assistant coach for Central Oklahoma is former state high school standout Chris Hacker.

Hacker came to UCO last year and played a key role as the Bronchos went 13-1 in winning the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association dual title while finishing runner-up in the MIAA and regional tournaments and fourth in the national meet.

Chris was a two-time state champion for perennial power El Reno High School while also earning All-America honors seven times before continuing his wrestling career at Nebraska. He spent five years with the Huskers while battling an assortment of injuries that limited his career on the mat.

Hacker earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from NU. He’s working on his master’s in psychology at UCO.

Taking over as Central Oklahoma’s full-time assistant coach in 2013-14 is Kyle Evans, one of the most deco-rated wrestlers in the school’s illustrious history.

Evans spent his entire career at 141 pounds and was a four-time All-American and two-time national cham-pion for the Bronchos. He finished with a 125-20 record that ranks fifth on the school’s all-time list for winning percentage (.862) and eighth for wins.

Kyle redshirted his first year and then beat out a returning All-American in earning the starting berth in 2004-05, winning the regional title and finishing sixth nationally en route to a 24-13 record. He came back the next season to go 30-5, winning 22 of his last 24 matches to capture a second straight regional crown before finishing as the national runner-up.

Evans was virtually unbeatable his final two seasons, going a combined 71-2 in winning back-to-back national championships.

He became the first UCO wrestler to complete a full season undefeated as a junior in 2006-07 with a perfect 39-0 record that included 18 bonus-point wins and was named Midwest Regional Wrestler of the Year before

sweeping four matches in winning the national title. Kyle repeated as both Midwest Regional Wrestler of the Year and national champion during a dominating senior season that saw him finish 32-2 with 18 bonus-point wins.

Evans became just the second UCO wrestler to win four regional titles and he had a 43-match winning streak that ranks as the third-longest in school history. He earned 53 bonus-point wins during his career with a school-record 25 technical falls.

A state champion as a senior at Edmond North High School, Kyle earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies from UCO in 2008 and worked in the medical sales field before returning to UCO.

In his first year as a student as-sistant coach at Central Oklahoma is Tanner Keck, a four-time national qualifier for the Bronchos who ended his career last season.

Keck earned a national tourna-ment berth at 184 pounds as a true freshmen in 2009-10 in finishing with a 17-13 record and came back as a sophomore to go 32-15 in mak-ing a repeat trip to nationals after a regional runner-up finish.

Tanner’s best season came in 2011-12 when he finished 27-9, repeated as regional runner-up and earned All-America honors with a fourth-place national finish at 184. He made it back to the national tournament at 184 again as a senior last year in going 24-18.

Keck ranks 20th on UCO’s all-time wins list with a 100-55 career record that included 37 bonus-point wins.

A four-time state placer and two-time state champion at Marlow High School, Tanner is finishing work on his physical education degree.

125 PoundSJunior Ryan Brooks has won 45 matches as the starter here the past

two seasons, but he’s set to face a stiff challenge from freshmen Josh Breece and Gunner Laffoon to maintain the top spot.

Brooks has shown flashes throughout his career and is capable of big things, though the Bronchos are also high on the two talented rookies. Senior Andrew Schmauch, sophomore letterman Cooper Finch and redshirt freshman Lloyd Crownover provide additional depth.

Coach James Says: “Ryan’s a two-year starter and the big thing is he does have that experience and he’s had some success, but he’ll be pressed. Josh is tough and comes from a great wrestling family and Gunner is a very gifted wrestler, with the big question on him if he can maintain this weight.”

133 PoundSNo question who the main man is here and senior All-American Casy

Rowell is determined to finish his sensational career with an illusive national championship.

Rowell has won 98 career matches, went 36-5 last year with 24 bonus-point wins and was ranked No. 1 going into the

national tournament before losing twice en route to a second straight fifth-place finish. There’s no question

Rowell is a national title contender and he’ll rack up plenty of team points for the Bronchos.

Freshman Brett Dunning looks to be the main back-up and rookie Gunner Laffoon could also be used here.

Coach James Says: “Casy had a great year last season, but he had a couple of dis-appointing matches at nationals and I think

he’ll use that as motivation. We know it’s going to

be a very competitive weight nationally, but Casy has upgraded his wrestling and mental approach each year

and he’s all in to be the national champion. Brett’s a talented kid and Gunner could also help.”

141 PoundSThis appears to be a wide-open weight, with a trio of veterans set to

battle it out for the starting berth.Junior Dustin Reed is coming off a redshirt year and could rate the

slight edge as a past national qualifier at 133, though junior Kaleb Crad-duck and senior Austin Quinton are definitely in the mix. Cradduck redshirted last year and is dropping down after seeing time at 149 and 157 the previous two seasons, while Quinton is a three-year letterman eager to get in the lineup.

Freshmen Anthony Mica, Tyler Tustin and Alec Warren add depth.Coach James Says: “This will be an interesting weight. You’ve got

to give the upper hand to the three upperclassmen, who have all been in our program for at least a couple of years. What we need is for one of those guys to step it up and for somebody to be productive at this weight class. We’ve also got three young guys who are all hard-working freshmen and very talented.”

149 PoundSUCO is in good hands with the return of All-American Jordan Basks

and the senior standout is primed to cap his career with a national championship.

wealth of returning talent featuring proven veterans at most weights has Central Oklahoma aiming for a return to the throne room in 2013-14 when the Bronchos will gun for their 16th national championship.

UCO has back seven starters -- including a national champion and four other All-Americans -- from last year’s team that went 13-1 in duals, was runner-up in the regional tournament and finished fourth in the national meet.

It was the best season for the Bronchos since the 2007 squad won the program’s last national title and veteran head coach David James is looking for his troops to take it up another notch this winter.

“We have very high expectations, both from our coaching staff and our wrestlers,” said James, who has won 363 duals and 12 national titles in 31 years at the UCO helm. “With what we have back, we should be excited and we should expect a lot.

“Last year we finished fourth and while we made a move to get back to where we want to be, there was also some disappointment at the end that it could have been better. We don’t want to be disap-pointed this time.”

T h e r e ’s a g o o d chance the Bronchos will avoid that with a power-packed lineup highlighted by a 1-2-3 punch in the middle.

National champion Cory Dauphin spearheads the team from his 157-pound slot and he’s sandwiched by two All-Americans in 149-pounder Jordan Basks and 165-pounder Chris Watson. Add in two other returning national placers in 133-pounder Casy Rowell and heavyweight Cody Dauphin along with national qualifier Znick Ferrell (184) and two-year starter Ryan Brooks (125) and there’s plenty of reason for optimism in the UCO camp.

There are question marks, particularly at 197, but the Bronchos have a senior-laden team and are ready to face the many challenges ahead.

“We’ve just got to keep getting better throughout the year,” said James, who has 10 seniors on the 39-man roster. “We’ve got a good mix of guys who have had success here and young guys who need to develop to be ready to step in when it’s their time, so that will help keep guys hungry.”

UCO will face another demanding schedule, both in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and the newly-realigned Central Super Regional, which features four of the top-five teams from last year’s national tournament.

The Bronchos will host the 17-team regional Feb. 28-March 1, with the top-five finishers from each weight advancing to the national tournament.

“You’re going to see improvement across the board in the MIAA and our region is the best, most competitive one in the country,” James said. “There’s no question we’re going to have to be wrestling our best at the end, but that’s the way it should be.

“Our guys are excited and they’re ready to go. We should be in the hunt at the end, but we’ve got to do the right things along the way and get after it when the time comes.”

One of the most exciting wrestlers in the nation, Basks went 31-6 with 19 bonus-point wins -- including a team-high 13 falls -- last year before dropping two tough matches at nationals during a fifth-place finish.

Pushing Basks in the practice room will be newcomer Spencer Rutherford, a junior college All-American, with sophomore LeSean Sanders and possibly freshman Alec Warren also available.

Coach James Says: “Jordan was disappointed by his performance at the national tournament, but he had a great year for us and I think he’ll take his experiences to the next level. He’s an exciting wrestler who scores a lot of bonus points and his goal is to be on top this year. Spencer is a talented guy and I like his grit and think he’s a good fit for us.”

157 PoundSReady to make a run at a second

straight national title is senior star Cory Dauphin, who ended UCO’s four-year drought with-out an individual champion last season.

Dauphin was fantastic all year in putting together a 28-3 campaign that ended with an 18-match winning streak and he’s focused on joining an elite group of two-time champions.

UCO has good depth, led by two-time junior college All-American Jeromy Daven-port. Freshman Kyle Driscoll and redshirt freshman Forest Myers are also here.

Coach James Says: “We’ve always known Cory had the talent and athletic ability to be a champion, but he really put it all together last year. His match approach and everything went to another level. He wants to be a two-time champion and is working toward that, but it won’t be easy and he’s going to have to work for it. Jeromy is a real physical kid who will press Cory and Kyle has a lot of talent as well.”

165 PoundSJunior Chris Watson returns and will be among the

best in the country after coming on strong late last year to earn All-America honors with a fourth-place showing.

Watson overcame an early-season injury to finish 20-7 with 10 bonus-point wins and last year’s national tournament success should help push him to an even higher level this time around.

Nobody else is listed at this weight, though senior Zach Aylor and freshmen Kyle Driscoll and Landon Good could be if the need arises.

Coach James Says: “Chris had probably as good a national tourna-ment as anybody we had last year in getting fourth and I think he came into his own there knowing he belongs in that elite group. He’s physical, really works at it and has big expectations. We’ve got several guys who could help out here if needed.”

174 PoundSAnother weight with no clear-cut favorite in what appears to be a

three-man race, with the Bronchos needing someone to take over. Sophomore Colton Gallo is looking to get his injury-plagued career

going and he’s definitely got a chance to come out on top here, but senior Zach Aylor is a two-year letterman ready to be the main guy and junior Kyle Buckley should also be in the running.

2013-14 SeaSon outlook

Cody Dauphin

Also here are seniors Cody Salter and Kasey Wilcox along with sophomore Dylan Harmon.

Coach James Says: “It looks pretty wide open, with three guys in the mix. Colton hasn’t been on the mat much because of injuries and hopefully he’s past that, but he’s worked awful hard to get bigger and he’s very talented. Zach has been with us three years and has got a lot of experience. He’ll do a lot of wrestling for us and we’ll see in what role it will be. Kyle is a dangerous wrestler who has a chance to make himself heard. All three of those guys know it’s a weight where some-body needs to step up and we’ll have to see what happens.”

184 PoundSThe Bronchos lost a four-year starter here, but a returning national

qualifier at 197 will drop down and fill that void nicely.Senior Znick Ferrell was a late addition to the team last year at 197 and overcame a lengthy layoff from wrestling to go

25-14 in making it to the national tournament. He should be even better at this weight and is poised to contend for All-America recognition.

Sophomores Cason Montgomery and Michael Con-ner along with rookies Jacob Lamb, and Reid Rodich give depth.

Coach James Says: “I thought Znick turned the cor-ner the second semester last year and beat some really

good guys on the national level. This is a better weight for him, he’s got a great attitude

and his national tournament experi-ence will motivate him. We’ve got some good, young guys at this weight as well.”

197 PoundSEasily the biggest hole in the

lineup, with UCO depending on one of two youngsters to step in.

Redshirt freshman Garrett Henshaw has the edge from being in the program a year, with sopho-

more newcomer Quinn Hulsey looking to make an impact.

Coach James Says: “This is a huge question mark for us. Garrett is probably the

front-runner and he’s done a tremendous job in the weight room to get bigger after competing at 174 and 184 last year as a redshirt. He’s a physical kid, but is young and needs to keep developing. Quinn’s a transfer who hasn’t been on the mat in a couple of years and was a heavyweight in high school, so he’s got some adjusting to do.”

HeavyWeigHtAnother senior veteran sits here, with All-American Cody Dauphin

holding down the top spot for the fourth consecutive season.A three-time national qualifier, Dauphin went 26-8 with nine falls

last year and finally broke through at the national tournament with a sixth-place finish that the Bronchos hope will propel him to even greater heights in 2014.

Freshman John Finn is the back-up and has a bright future.Coach James Says: “Hopefully Cody will use the success he had at

the national tournament and take it to another level. He’s been solid for us throughout his career and needs to be hungry in his last go-around to finish the right way. John is a hard-working young guy who a lot of high school success and he comes from a great wrestling family.”

2012-13 season ReviewBasks, Ferrell and Cody Dauphin all had first-period pins in

a first-round 44-0 romp over Minot State, with Cory Dauphin’s 25-second fall, Basks’ 19-4 technical fall and Watson’s 15-3 major decision powering UCO past Grand Canyon 30-9.

Notre Dame edged the Bronchos 19-13 in the semifinals, but UCO bounced back to clip Wisconsin-Parkside 26-12 in the third-place bout behind a fall by Basks and major decisions by Rowell and Cory Dauphin.

The Bronchos returned home Jan. 17 to host defending national champion Nebraska-Kearney and pulled out a 22-16 win on Cody Dauphin’s first-period fall in the final match. UCO jumped out to a 16-0 lead behind a major decision by Rowell and fall by 141 Ben Morgan before the Lopers rallied to pull even and set

the stage for Cody.A road trip to Ouachita

Baptist followed two days later and Central rolled 34-13 behind bonus-point wins by Rowell, Basks, Cory Dauphin, Watson, Ferrell and Cody Dauphin.

It was back to Hamilton Field House Jan. 22 to take on near-by Oklahoma City and Central got falls from Watson and Cody Dauphin in a 36-6 rout.

The Bronchos went on the road for their next three duals -- all against MIAA opponents -- and won by a combined 107-12 margin

while taking 28 of 30 individual matches.UCO started that string with a 35-6 blasting of Lindenwood

as Basks and Cody Dauphin scored first-period pins, blanked Truman State 38-0 with five bonus-point victories and rolled past Central Missouri 34-6 as Cory and Cody Dauphin had falls.

The Bronchos ended the regular season with three straight home duals, getting a fall from Basks in a 26-13 win over Oua-chita Baptist, five bonus-point routs in a 39-6 whipping of Colo-rado State-Pueblo and five falls in a 40-7 trouncing of Newman.

UCO traveled to Ashland, Ohio for the NCAA Division II Super Regional Two Tournament and finished second with four individual champions, just two points behind Notre Dame.

Henderson had a dramatic finals fall to lead the way, with Rowell, Basks and Cory Dauphin also claiming titles. Watson, Ferrell and Cody Dauphin came in second, while Graham and Keck took fourth as all nine advanced to the national tournament.

Cory Dauphin led the way there, capping a four-match march to the national championship with a gritty 4-2 finals victory. The Bronchos also got All-America finishes from Watson (fourth), Rowell (fifth), Basks (fifth), Cody Dauphin (sixth) and Henderson (seventh) in their fourth-place showing.

entral Oklahoma enjoyed its best season in several years in 2012-13, though the Bronchos fell short of their national championship aspirations.

UCO put together a 13-1 regular season record that included a third-place finish in the NWCA Division II Duals and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association dual title. The Bronchos were runners-up both the MIAA and Super Regional Two tournaments and then came in fourth in the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships.

It was UCO’s highest national finish since the Bronchos won the last of their 15 championships in 2007 and Coach David James’ crew had six All-Americans, also the best showing since ‘07. And 157-pounder Cory Dauphin won the school’s first in-dividual crown since 2008.

“We had a really good year and accomplished a lot of our goals, but we came up a little short at the end,” James said. “We wrestled at a pretty high level most of the season and had a lot of individuals really step up.

“We fell a little short in the national tournament and that was disappointing, but I think we can learn and grow from that.”

The Bronchos started the season with three consecu-tive open tournaments, go-ing to the Oklahoma City Open Nov. 4, the UNK Loper Open Nov. 17 and the Fort Hays State Open Dec. 1.

UCO got runner-up finishes from Cory Dauphin, 133 Casy Rowell, 141 Austin Quinton, 149 Jordan Basks, 174 Kelly Henderson and 184 Tanner Keck at OCU, with Rowell’s fourth-place effort leading four placers at UNK.

The Bronchos ended the open tournament schedule at FHSU with a trio of top-three finishers, getting titles from Rowell and heavyweight Cody Dauphin and a third from 141 Trison Graham.

Central made its dual debut Dec. 7 at home against FHSU, getting a first-period fall from Basks and a 10-2 major decision from Rowell in a 22-12 victory.

The Bronchos ended their first-semester schedule at the New-man Invitational Dec. 9 and ran away with that team title as Rowell, Graham, Cory Dauphin, Cody Dauphin and 197 Znick Ferrell won gold medals while Basks, Henderson and 165 Chris Watson took second.

UCO didn’t resume the season until Jan. 12-13 at the NWCA Division II National Duals in Springfield, Ill. and the Bronchos went 3-1 to take third in that event.

Central Oklahoma is in its second year as a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

The MIAA, a 15-member conference of NCAA Division II institu-tions in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma, was first orga-nized in 1912 as the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Over the past 100 years, the MIAA has gained the reputation of be-ing one of the top NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. MIAA schools have won 15 NCAA team championships and, since 1964, over 160 individual national titles.

The MIAA currently conducts champion-ships in eight sports for men and nine for women.

For the men, champions are crowned in football, cross country, basketball, indoor and outdoor track & field, baseball, tennis and golf.

The women compete for titles in vol-leyball, cross country, soccer, basketball, indoor and outdoor track & field, softball, golf and tennis.

The MIAA turned a new page on July 1, 1992, when the NCAA Division II confer-ence changed its name from the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics As-sociation.

The decision to make the change origi-nated in 1989, when Pittsburg State and Washburn became the first schools outside the state of Missouri to gain membership in the MIAA.

The conference was first organized in 1912 with 14 member institu-tions. Of those original members, Central Missouri, Truman State and Northwest Missouri State still remain a part of the MIAA.

The first change in membership came in 1924, when the MIAA reor-ganized to include only the five regional Missouri state colleges: Cen-tral Missouri, Truman (at the time known as Northeast Missouri State),

the mid-AmeriCA interColleGiAte AthletiCs AssoCiAtion Northwest Missouri, Southeast Missouri State and Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State).

Over the next 56 years, three schools joined the membership: Mis-souri School of Mines (later Missouri-Rolla) in 1935, Lincoln in 1970 and the Missouri-St. Louis in 1980.

Ken Jones became the first full-time commissioner of the MIAA in 1981 and would be in the position for 16 years, retiring in 1997. Ralph McFillen succeeded Jones, serving 10 years before his retirement in

2007.Jim Johnson succeeded McFillen in July

of that year and served as commissioner until September of 2010, when Dr. Bob Boerigter took over.

Southwest Baptist brought membership back to eight schools in 1986, before the ma-jor expansion of the conference in 1989. Pitts-burg State, Washburn, Missouri Southern and Missouri Western began competition in the 1989-90 season.

Southeast Missouri State left the MIAA fol-lowing the 1990-91 season and was replaced by Emporia State in the 1991-92 season.

Missouri-St. Louis departed the MIAA in 1996, Missouri-Rolla left in 2005 and Lincoln forfeited its membership in 1999. Fort Hays State joined the MIAA in 2006, Nebraska-Omaha entered the league in 2008 and Lin-

coln re-joined the conference in 2010. On July 29, 2010, the MIAA CEO Council voted to extend invita-

tions to UCO and Northeastern State to become members of the league and on Sept. 24, 2010 it voted to extend invitations to Nebraska-Kear-ney and Lindenwood.

Nebraska-Omaha left the league in 2011 and Truman State did the same last year. Truman will remain an MIAA associate member in wrestling, with Newman joining the MIAA in that capacity as well to give the league seven wrestling schools
