Physically aggressive acts towardsothers

Stalking

Communicated threats of harm

Intimidating behavior raising concernfor personal safety

Willful or intentional behavior whichcauses damage to property

Suicide threats

Individuals who engage in violent behaviorare in violation of the UCLA ViolencePrevention & Response Policy and will besubject to disciplinary action and may beprosecuted. This policy applies to all UCLAlocations including offices, residences,classrooms, work sites, vehicles and off-campus locations.

Taking ActionEmergenciesThe first priority is to ensure your safety.

Call 911 immediately. Do not attemptto intervene or deal with the situationyourself.

Be prepared to answer thedispatcher’s questions such as:What is occurring? What does thesubject look like? Does the subjecthave any weapons? When did thisoccur?

The dispatcher may keep you on thephone. Otherwise, hold a phone lineopen until police arrive.

Isolate or evacuate other people ifthere is immediate danger.

Non-EmergenciesDocument, evaluate, determine next stepsand develop a plan of action.

Promptly inform the appropriatecampus administrator.

On-going SupportUCLA’s Staff & Faculty Counseling Centerconducts counseling sessions to helpemployees and departments cope withtraumatic events. Contact 4-0245. StudentCounseling & Psychological Services hascounselors available 24 hours a day byphone. Students may contact 5-0768.

Managing a ThreatStaff and Faculty ResponsibilitiesUCLA employees should report suspectedviolations of this policy to their supervisor oranother official who is not a party to theviolation, or to Employee Relations (4-0860)or Academic Personnel (5-3841). Noemployee will be subject to disciplinaryaction for acting in good faith to report actsthat violate the UCLA Violence Prevention &Response Policy.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesIt is the responsibility of all supervisors toencourage their employees to report anysuspected violation of this policy.Supervisors who have knowledge of asuspected violation of this policy shouldpromptly contact and consult with the UCLAViolence Prevention & Response Team.(See back panel for phone numbers.)

Student ResponsibilitiesStudents play a critical role in ensuring thatfacilities, residence halls, classrooms andplaces of employment are free from violence.Any student who suspects that a member ofthe UCLA community is in violation of theUCLA Violence Prevention & ResponsePolicy should contact the Dean of StudentsOffice (5-3871). Students living in Universityhousing should contact their residential staff.
