FEATURE 1 - ASHLEY YOUNG TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
GABRIEL
Lyrics
01:09 After song lyrics –
Ashley with
polystyrene letters
Injury is the sportsman’s curse.
After missing two months Manchester United’s Ashley
Young is desperate to make up for lost time.
And where better to do that than in the rarefied air of the
UEFA Champions League?
Soundbite????
01:25 SOT: ASHLEY
YOUNG (ENGLISH)
YOU’VE GOT TO HAVE THE CONFIDENCE IN
YOURSELF TO GO OUT THERE AND SEE IF YOU
CAN GET TO THAT HIGHEST LEVEL; YOU’VE
GOT TO HAVE THAT BELIEF IN YOURSELF. AND
I’VE ALWAYS SAID THAT I BELIEVE THAT I CAN
GET TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL IN MY CAREER,
PLAY IN THE BIGGEST COMPETITIONS, PLAY
FOR THE BIGGEST CLUB, WHICH I AM, I'M AT
THE BIGGEST CLUB IN THE WORLD, AND I
NEVER TAKE ANYTHING FOR GRANTED; I GO IN
EVERY DAY AND WORK HARD, AND I WANT TO
ACHIEVE, I WANT SUCCESS.
01:50 After SOT That hunger was clear when Young was only 10. Chris
Cummins, now a coach at United’s Premier League rivals
Reading, spotted the child prodigy and took him to Watford
Football Club. Young flourished initially – making the final
5
step was the problem.
.
02:06 SOT: CHRIS
CUMMINS
(ENGLISH)
ASHLEY GOT TO SIXTEEN AND HE WAS ONE OF THE
MOST GIFTED PLAYERS THAT WE HAD WORKED
WITH BUT UNFORTUNATELY HE WASN’T, IN SOME
PEOPLE’S EYES, ATHLETIC ENOUGH OR PHYSICAL
ENOUGH TO PLAY THE GAME AND HE GOT GIVEN A
NEGATIVE DECISION AT SIXTEEN.
02:21 SOT: ASHLEY
YOUNG (ENGLISH)
IT’S DISAPPOINTING, AS A KID, REALLY, YOU KNOW,
WHEN YOU GET A DISAPPOINTING ANSWER, IT’S
TOUGH TO TAKE. SO I THINK THAT’S THE POINT IN
MY CAREER THAT I’VE ALWAYS SAID IS A DOWN
SIDE. BUT I LOOK BACK TO THAT WHEN THINGS
ARE NOT GOING SO RIGHT, AND THAT SPURS ME
ON TO GO FURTHER, AND I THINK THAT’S HELPED
ME FROM THAT POINT IN MY CAREER, RIGHT UP
UNTIL NOW.
02:45 After SOT With Cummins’ support, Young persevered, turning up to
train at no cost to the club. Within a year Watford had
recognised their mistake and offered him a contract. Four
years later they sold him to Aston Villa at a major profit.
03:02 SOT: CHRIS
CUMMINS
(ENGLISH)
IT JUST SAYS A LOT ABOUT HIS CHARACTER AND
THAT, AND HOW HE IS, AND HOW THEY ARE AS A
FAMILY THAT HE GETS THAT NEGATIVE DECISION
AND HE TURNS IT AROUND BECAUSE IT PROBABLY
WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER TO SAY, “WELL, NOT
FOR ME, I’LL GO AND DO SOMETHING ELSE”
03:11 Photo shoot in

Five years and one life changing transfer later Young is an
England international enjoying all the trappings of success

at Manchester United.
He’s 27 - approaching the peak of his powers and
although still slight of stature, he’s learned to adapt his
game to complement his physique.
03:30 SOT: ASHLEY
YOUNG (ENGLISH)
YOU THINK ABOUT HOW THE GAME IS GOING TO
GO, YOU WORK OUT STRATEGIES DURING THE
GAME, HOW YOU ARE GOING TO GET PAST THE
HEIGHT THING AND YOU JUST GET ON WITH THE
GAME AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I’VE DONE
THROUGHOUT MY CAREER. I’M NOT THE TALLEST
NOW, BUT I’VE GOT A JOB TO DO OUT THERE AND
WHETHER IT’S HEIGHT, WHETHER YOU ARE TALL
OR SMALL, YOU JUST GO OUT THERE TO PLAY THE
GAME.
03:53 Archive Young line-
up/shouting then into
Ashley goal from last
season
On the biggest club stage he has a point to prove on.
Young’s first taste of the UEFA champions League ended
with United failing to progress from the group stage for the
second time in 16 years.
Home form was their Achilles heel
04:06 SOT: ASHLEY
YOUNG (ENGLISH)
Paint with chance
WHENEVER A TEAM COMES TO OLD TRAFFORD,
THEY WANT TO BEAT THE BIGGEST TEAM IN THE
WORLD. IT'S LIKE A CUP FINAL FOR TEAMS WHEN
THEY COME THERE. SOME TEAMS WILL ATTACK,
SOME TEAMS WILL DEFEND, AND IN THE
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LAST SEASON IT WAS
DISAPPOINTING. WE GOT ONLY ONE WIN AT HOME,
AND FOR A TEAM LIKE US, WE ARE BETTER THAN
THAT, WE ALL KNOW THAT.
7
04:27 Warming up Matchday three and Ashley Young was back – for the visit
of Braga.
He had to be content with a place on the bench – and was
not sitting comfortably as the first 20 minutes saw all the
problems from last season’s home campaign resurface.
Alan opened the scoring for the Portuguese after just 90
seconds ….
04:44 After goalkeeper Éder turned stand in centre back Michael Carrick inside
out – and Alan grabbed his and Braga’s second goal …..
04:55 Coach celeb A major upset was a real possibility …. But Javier
Hernández reduced the deficit before half time
05:01 Hernandez celeb And just after the hour, Jonny Evans equalised. …
05:08 Evans celeb With United on top Sir Alex Ferguson decided against
unleashing Ashley Young. And Hernández grabbed his
second and the winner 15 minutes from time.
So United maintain their perfect record – so Young should
get his chance to make his mark on the UEFA Champions
League at the sharp end of this season’s competition.

Magazine Show 10 –Galatasaray vs CFR Cluj
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
MIKE
05:29 Teams out Going into their Group H match with CFR Cluj,
Galatasaray’s home form in Europe made for unhappy
reading. No win in four and the Turks were soon behind,
their defender Dany Nounkeu turning in Camora’s cross
for an own goal.
05:44 End of replay Cluj had Matias Aguirregaray sent off and Galatasaray
missed a penalty before Burak Yılmaz equalised for the
home side in the 77th minute. It was their first goal in the
competition this season. Cluj’s good form in the UEFA
Champions League hasn’t been reflected domestically and
this was coach Ioan Andone’s final match before parting
company with the club.
06:06 Table Manchester United’s comeback sees them comfortably top
Group H, five points clear of second place Cluj.
Galatasaray face a real uphill task from here.
9
Magazine Show 10 – Arsenal vs Schalke
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
GABRIEL
06:17 After table Against Schalke, Arsenal succumbed to only their second
defeat in 45 home games in European competitions.
Klass-Jan Huntelaar is in a rich vein of form. The
Dutchman scored his 11th goal in eight European
appearances, giving Huub Stevens’ Germans the lead in
the 76th minute. And as Arsenal searched for an equaliser,
Huntelaar’s compatriot Ibrahim Afellay gave Schalke a
deserved two-nil win.
10
Magazine Show 10 – Montpellier vs Olympiacos
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
MIKE
06:45 After wipe Olympiacos gained their first points of this season’s UEFA
Champions League away at Montpellier. In the dying
moments, Kostas Mitroglou scored a dramatic winner for
the Greeks, who only had two shots on goal during the
entire game.
06:58 Replay That’s all they needed though as Olympiacos triumphed
two-one. Despite controlling the game, Montpellier still
search for a win in the competition. So Schalke who move
ahead of Arsenal into top spot, while Olympiacos’ win
means they’re within touching distance of the top two.
11
Magazine Show 10 – Malaga vs AC Milan
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
GABRIEL
07:17 Teams out In Group C, AC Milan’s dismal time continued at Málaga.
07:22 Action Struggling in Serie A and in the UEFA Champions League
the Italian giants went behind in the second half to
Joaquin’s fourth goal in five games in all competitions.
07:31 Replay One-nil it ended. It’s Málaga’s first season of European
football and they remain unbeaten at home in UEFA
Champions League competition. It’s three games, three
wins this season and no goals conceded for the Spanish
club, who are proving quite a story.

FEATURE 2 - ANDERLECHT
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
MIKE
07:50 After music crash in Leading Football clubs bring together players from all over
the world. Like many teams in the UEFA Champions
League that’s certainly the case at Royal Sporting Club
Anderlecht.
08:01 Music cue - flag Brussels may be the seat of the European Union.
But the city’s legendary club can claim to have a truly
global identity.
There are 15 nationalities from five continents in the
Anderlecht squad.
Belgian international Guillaume Gillet is one of the few
home grown players.
08:17 SOT: GUILLAUME
GILLET (FRENCH)
WE TRY TO FIND THE BEST PLAYER FOR EACH
POSITION FROM ALL AROUND THE WORLD. THAT IS
WHY THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT
NATIONALITIES. AS FAR AS COMMUNICATION IS
CONCERNED, THERE IS A LOT OF ENGLISH. THAT'S
FINE FOR THOSE OF US WHO’VE HAD GOOD
TEACHERS AT SCHOOL; THE OTHERS JUST HAVE
TO DEAL WITH IT IN A DIFFERENT WAY.
13
08:41 After beat Anderlecht’s regular strike partners are a vivid example of
the club’s diversity.
08:46 Looking down lens Dieumerci Mbokani is from Democratic Republic of Congo,
Milan Jovanovic from Serbia. They don’t even share a
common language – yet their rapport on the pitch is
special, dating back several years to their previous club.
09:00 SOT:DIEUMERCI
MBOKANI
(FRENCH)
WE ARE USED TO PLAYING TOGETHER AFTER OUR
TIME AT STANDARD LIÈGE. WHEN HE MAKES A
MOVE I ALREADY KNOW WHERE HE IS GOING AND I
CAN PLAY THE PASS FOR HIM – AND IT’S THE SAME
FOR HIM WHEN I MAKE A RUN.
09:14 SOT:MILAN
JOVANOVIĆ
(SERBIAN)
I DON’T HAVE TO LOOK FOR HIM, AND I USUALLY
KNOW IN ADVANCE WHAT HE WILL DO WITH THE
BALL. SO I COULD RUN AROUND WITH MY EYES
SHUT WITHOUT ANY DIFFICULTIES!
09:31 After globe spin That telepathy was clear in the UEFA Champions League
during their time at Standard Liège.
But Mbokani, Jovanovic and Anderlecht are struggling in
this season’s competition.
09:45 Globe A goalless draw in Milan laid a good foundation for their
Group C campaign.
14
09:54 globe But that was followed by a dismal home defeat to Malaga.
Two matches, no goals.
And when Mbokani suffered a broken nose on
international duty, Anderlecht were struggling up front as
they headed to Russia on Matchday Three.
10:08 SOT: GUILLAUME
GILLET (FRENCH)
TWO YEARS AGO WE FACED ZENIT AND IT DIDN'T
GO TOO WELL FOR US; THEIR TEAM WAS REALLY
STRONG AT THE TIME. I THINK THAT NOW THEY ARE
GOING THROUGH A ROUGHER PERIOD, AND I THINK
IT IS GOOD TIMING - IF WE WANT TO GET A GOOD
RESULT, IT IS THE RIGHT MOMENT TO GO OVER
THERE. WE NEED TO KEEP BELIEVING.
10:29 After SOT With Mbokani missing, Jovanovic was left to lead
Anderlecht’s attack against Zenit St Petersburg. It was not
a night to remember for the Serb....
10:41 Gillet miss His team made chances …. But couldn’t take them …
Gillet might have shot, not passed… - as Anderlecht’s
wastefulness in front of goal continued. And with time
running out, it was Jovanovic who gave away the decisive
penalty.
And Aleksandr Kerzhakov clinched Zenit their first win in
the Group.
10:57 After penalty At previous club Liverpool Jovanovic discovered what it
can be like when a famous European club is forced to
rebuild.
But despite Anderlecht’s current situation he has no
doubts about their long term prospects:
15
11:09 SOT:MILAN
JOVANOVIĆ
(SERBIAN)
ANDERLECHT HAVE ALL THE CONDITIONS TO BE
ONE OF THE VERY BEST CLUBS IN EUROPEAN
FOOTBALL. THEY HAVE THE TRADITION, THEY HAVE
THE HISTORY, THEY HAVE THE TROPHIES, AND OF
COURSE THE POTENTIAL, THE FANS, AND
EXCELLENT INFRASTRUCTURE. SO: EVERYTHING
THAT A CLUB NEEDS TO BE GREAT, ANDERLECHT
HAVE ALREADY GOT.
11:40 Table Anderlecht prop up Group C. If leaders Málaga win in
Milan, then they will qualify for the knockout phase in their
debut season.
16
Magazine Show 10 –Barcelona vs Celtic
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
GABRIEL
11:51 After table In Group G, Celtic took a surprise lead at Camp Nou,
Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano deflecting in Georgios
Samaras’ headed in the first half.
12:04 After replay Barcelona had scored in each of their last 31 group stage
home games, so there was no surprise when Andres
Iniesta crowned a sublime move on the stroke of half-time
for the equaliser.
12:15 Replay Celtic made Barcelona work for the win though. In the 94 th
minute left-back Jordi Alba crept in at the back post to
score his first UEFA Champions League goal. Heart break
for Celtic, two-one it finished.
17
Magazine Show 10 – Spartak vs Benfica
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
GABRIEL
12:36 Crowd Spartak Moscow found themselves in a familiar position at
home to Benfica. Jardel’s own goal put the Russians two-
one up at the end of the first half. Twice this campaign
Spartak had been ahead with this scoreline and twice they
had lost. Not this time, as they held on for their first
victory.
12:52 table Barcelona travel to Glasgow next and if they avoid defeat
they will qualify for the knockout phase. Benfica remain
Rooted to the bottom.

FEATURE 3 – KLUIVERT ‘MOMENT’
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
GABRIEL
14:07 Picks up letters For our European Championships moment this week, we
go back twenty-two years to Vienna when Dutch giants
Ajax defeated AC Milan one-nil to lift the European Cup for
the fourth time. .
14:23 Two hands on stamp The match-winner that day was an 18 year old Patrick
Kluivert who became the youngest goalscorer in a UEFA
Champions League final
14:36 SOT: PATRICK
KLUIVERT
(DUTCH)
I STARTED ON THE BENCH. IT’S ALWAYS A BIT
TOUGH WHEN YOU’RE A SUBSTITUTE, BUT YOU
HAVE TO DO IT; IT’S THE CHOICE OF THE COACH.
THEN IN THE SECOND HALF HE TOLD ME TO GET
WARMED-UP. THAT’S WHEN YOU KNOW YOU’RE
GOING TO BE INVOLVED AND IT WAS ACTUALLY AN
INDESCRIBABLE FEELING, A WONDERFUL FEELING
– A FULL STADIUM IN THE FINAL OF THE
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, THE HIGHEST STAGE YOU
CAN REACH AS A CLUB – IT WAS AMAZING. THEN IN
THE LAST TEN MINUTES YOU’RE BROUGHT ON.
YOU’VE JUST GOT TO TRY AND MAKE THE BEST OF
IT AND ENJOY THE MINUTES YOU PLAY.
20
15:12 SOT: PATRICK
KLUIVERT
(DUTCH)
OF COURSE, AS A STRIKER YOU LOOK FOR YOUR
GOAL AND THEN, IN THE 87TH MINUTE, CAME THE
MOMENT; I GOT THE BALL FROM RIJKAARD. I TOOK
A TOUCH AND I THINK IT WAS BOTH BOBAN AND
BARESI WHO WERE TRYING TO GET TO ME, AND I
HAD JUST ENOUGH TIME TO SHOOT LEFT-FOOTED.
15:34 SOT: PATRICK
KLUIVERT
(DUTCH)
AT THAT MOMENT IT’S A FEELING OF PURE
ECSTASY AND YES…WHEN YOU LOOK BACK AT IT
YOU CAN SEE THAT FOR A SPLIT-SECOND I CAN’T
BREATHE. THAT SAYS EVERYTHING I THINK.
15:50 SOT: PATRICK
KLUIVERT
(DUTCH)
I THINK ABOUT THAT MOMENT A LOT. IT WAS THE
TURNING POINT FOR A TEENAGER WHO WAS ON
THE PERIPHERY; IT CHANGED THINGS FOR ME
GREATLY, WITHOUT A DOUBT.
16:07 After paper Bottom of Group D heading into Matchday three, the Ajax
class of 2012 needed some 1995 inspiration. But
Manchester City took the lead in the first half through
Samir Nasri.
16:18 Ball hits back of net Heads didn’t drop though and Ajax captain Siem de Jong
redressed the balance with half-time looming.
16:26 corner When Niklas Moisander headed home after the break,
Ajax led a group game tie for the first time this season and
moments later the influential Christian Eriksen increased
the lead. Three-one it ended. Ajax – up and running.
21
Magazine Show 10 – Dortmund vs Real Madrid
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
MIKE
16:40 crowd Also in Group D, Borussia Dortmund are flying. Robert
Lewandowski’s terrific finish gave the Germans the lead at
home to Real Madrid.
16:55 After replay Cristiano Ronaldo, this season’s UEFA Champions
League top scorer, dinked his fifth of the group stage, as
parity was restored two minutes later. But for the first time
ever in this competition Ronaldo was on the losing side
after scoring. Marcel Schmelzer cracked home the winner
for Jurgen Klopp’s men in the second half. Real Madrid
have won only once in 24 visits to Germany.
17:18 Table So unbeaten Dortmund lead the way. If Manchester City
win their final 3 games they will finish on 10 points, which
wasn’t enough to see them qualify last season.
22
Magazine Show 10 – BATE vs Valencia
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
GABRIEL
17:28 After table In Group F, BATE may have shocked Bayern Munich at
home on Matchday Two, but they were brought crashing
back down to earth by Valencia. Having earlier scored a
penalty, striker, Roberto Soldado volleyed a goal to
remember early in the second half.
17:47 After replay And fourteen minutes later Soldado became the first
Spanish player to score two UEFA Champions League
hat-tricks.
17:55 Fans Three-nil it finished, as Valencia won away from home for
the first time in eight games in this competition.
23
Magazine Show 10 – Lille vs Bayern
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
MIKE
18:04 After wipe Bayern Munich responded to their surprise loss away to
BATE Borisov with a narrow victory over Lille. Philip Lahm
was brought down in the area by left-back Lucas Digne in
the first half.
18:20 fans And Thomas Muller converted the penalty for his first
UEFA Champions League goal since he scored in the final
last May. Group F looks interesting as three sides sit on
six points. If Lille lose at Bayern on Matchday four they
won’t be able finish in the top two.
24
Magazine Show 10 – Porto vs Dynamo Kyiv
TIME PICTURE:SOUND COMMENTARY
GABRIEL
18:37 After table Porto maintained their 100 per cent record in Group A in a
thriller at home against Dynamo Kyiv. Ideye Brown had
levelled at two-two for the Ukrainians, profiting from Andriy
Yamolenko’s wonderful past.
18:51 Replay But six minutes later, Lucho Gonzalez broke down the
right and Colombian striker Jackson Martinez swept home
his second of the game and the winner. 3-2 for Vitor
Pereira’s Porto.

FAMOUS FOOTBALLERS HAVE BEEN CAPTAINS IN
THE PAST. IT IS A DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR
ME. I HOPE I’M DOING MY JOB WELL, AND THAT IN
26
THE FUTURE I WILL DO IT EVEN BETTER.
After SOT UEFA Champions League matches are a tricky discussion
point in Zagreb. For a team to make it this far from the
second qualifying round is a great achievement, and
Dinamo has done that two years’ running. The city’s post
office commissions a collectors’ item letter mark on each
group match day to celebrate this feat.
After black But it’s here where the head scratching begins. The ‘Plavi’
lost all six group games last campaign and defeats to
Porto and Dynamo Kiev have put them bottom of their
group once again. For a team that’s won seven
consecutive league titles, falling short in Europe is a bitter
pill to swallow.
SOT: ANTE ČAČIĆ
(CROATIAN)
IN THIS GROUP AT THIS MOMENT DINAMO ZAGREB
ARE THE OUTSIDERS, WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A
DOUBT. IT’S FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS, THE
MOST IMPORTANT OF WHICH IS THAT OUR LEAGUE
JUST DOESN’T HAVE THE COMPETITION THAT THE
OTHER TEAMS IN OUR GROUP HAVE IN THEIR
DOMESTIC CHAMPIONSHIPS, SO IT’S VERY
DIFFICULT FOR US TO ADJUST TO THESE KIND OF
MATCHES.
With ambitious Paris Saint-Germain the visitors on match
day three, many expected that gulf in class to once again
be in evidence.
27
But UEFA Champions League shocks do exist; BATE
Borisov showed that against Bayern Munich, and a win
could have seen the Croats move level with PSG and Kyiv.
Perhaps the captain's words could inspire the fans.

A WIN AGAINST PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN WOULD BE

Dinamo were keeping the Parisians at bay. Perhaps they
did have a chance after all.
**** Ibrahimović goal It took Ibrahimović - whose mother is Croatian – to stamp
some authority onto the game.
28
**** Ménez goal Just ten minutes later, Jérémy Ménez doubled the lead.
The faint hope that was there before the game
disappeared.
Mathematically a place in the last sixteen is still
achievable. But PSG could well have sealed Dinamo's
fate, sending them out of a group in which they haven’t left
their mark - again.
But in football, anything’s possible...

23:23 After replay But Juventus came from behind for the third time this

23:53 Replay The Ukrainians are making a real statement in Group E

second, was Shakhtar’s 250th in European competition.
24:06 replay Chelsea pulled one back late on but they couldn’t prevent
Roberto di Matteo’s first UEFA Champions League defeat
as coach. Shakhtar will earn a spot in the round of 16 if
they defeat Chelsea in the return match. Juventus need to
