    TheUCDOERDesign

    TheUCDOpenEducationalResources(OER)areprovidedbyUCDTeachingandLearningto

    facilitateflexible,openandpersonalisedaccesstoaseriesofeducationalmaterials.Thenatureof

    accesshasdeterminedthechosenplatform,theyareheldwithinanindependentwebsite(hosted

    onHEANet),sothatnoauthenticationisrequiredtoenableaccessfromanywhereandbyanyone.

    Thoseindividualswhowishto,mayavailofacollectionoftoolsembeddedinthesite

    (personalisedlogs,discussionpages,exercisedataset,etc)byregisteringforanaccount.

    ThedesignofUCDOERenablesthelearnertoaccessandengagewithcontentasdeterminedby

    theirneeds,whetherforprofessionaldevelopment,evaluatingpracticeoraspartofanegotiated

    assessment.

    AspartoftheProfessionalCertificateinUniversityTeachingandLearning,UCDOERhostsa

    numberofmoduleseachisenagedinasprimarily

    self-directedandviaprofessionalpractice,and

    eachhasamandatoryminimumoffourcoreface

    tofacesessions(seeModuleHandbook).These

    sessionswillprovideapivotalroleinsupporting

    thelearners;toengagewiththeUCDOERasa

    supportiveframeworkforacademicdevelopment

    todetermine,designandimplementapersonal

    negotiatedassessment,andtoreviewandevaluatetheresultingportfolioofwork.

    EachthemedsectionoravailablemodulecontentwithinUCDOERoffersaseriesofexercisesand

    activitiesembeddedamidstcoretheoryandpractice.Itistheintentionthattheseprovidethe

    impetusforacademicengagementanddevelopment.Thenatureoftheseactivitiespredicates

    thattheindividualwillapplytheseinacyclicalorre-iterativemannerwithintheirpractice,

    developingovertimeareflective,evaluativeandtransformativeapproachtoteachingand

    learning.Inthismanneraportfolioofworkiscreatedthatmayform,inpart,thebasisuponwhich

    theirnegotiatedassessmentisformulated.

    ThestructureoftheUCDOERenablesindividualregistereduserstocapturetheirinputthrough

    themanyexercises,activitiesandcollaborativediscussions.Theseareheldwithintheirown

    personalcollection,providingacompletehistoryofalltheiractions(contributions,amendments,

    edits,discussions,referencesetc)viaaseriesofindividualisedwikipages.InthiswaytheUCDOER

    actsasapersonale-portfolioofone'sacademicandreflectivepractice.

    Theaimofthismoduleistoenablethoseinanacademicrole

    Participantswilldeconstructtheircurrentpractice,appraise

    appropriatemethodologiesandexploretheoreticalconcepts

    withaviewtodevelopingfutureeducationalinterventions.

    Thismoduleencouragesteacherstofocusonwhatlearners,

    ratherthanteachers,dointheclassroomandwillhelp

    promoteeffectivelearning.Participantswillexploremethods

    andapproachesthathavebeenshowntoencouragehigher

    orderthinkingskillsandadeepapproachtolearning(Nichols

    2002;Chalmer&Fuller1996;Landeretal1995).

    Withinascaffoldedenvironment(DallAlba2005;VanDerStuyf

    2002)participantswillactascriticalfriendshelpingeachother

    toexplorewaysofapplyingthesemethodsintheirclasses

    (Curry2008;Bambino2002;Appleby1998).Therewillbea

    particularfocusonthecentralroleofassessmentininfluencing

    howstudentsapproachtheirstudies(Schouller2000;Atkinset

    al1993)andonhowassessmentcanbestructuredto

    encourageandenablestudentstobecomecriticalpersons(Roberts2006;Boud1995;Knight1995).
