UC ANR Statewide ConferenceApril 9-12, 2018Ontario, California

Welcome

Colleagues,

Welcome to the UC ANR Statewide Conference!

It’s always a challenge arriving at an appropriate conference theme, but “Innovation in Action” was a no-brainer this time. Everywhere you look at ANR, innovation is happening. Whether it’s agriculture and farming, water and other natural resources, 4-H and youth development, nutrition education, or any number of other research or extension activities, ANR is a living, breathing testament to the power of innovation. It’s the very essence of our approach to helping California and Californians prosper, and it’s why we’ve called out Innovation as a core ANR value, to “…anticipate and employ ingenuity to solve problems and critically evaluate options to improve outcomes and processes.”

The opportunity to come together with our ANR colleagues from around the state is a rare treat, one we wish we could do more often. So, in addition to the networking and “re-connecting” opportunities you’ll find here, I’d encourage you to read carefully through the pages that follow and circle your “can’t miss” activities. Maybe it’s CDFA Secretary Karen Ross’s keynote presentation you’re looking forward to, or the “Conversation with Leaders” panel discussion with my colleagues and I. Maybe it’s any number of provocative science and poster sessions, or maybe you’d like to learn from one of the dozens of training sessions that are being offered.

Whatever you choose to attend, I encourage you to see and hear what your colleagues and peers across UC ANR are doing, and to share your own work during these next few days. Discover what’s new in Extension and Agriculture Experiment Station research. Engage with leaders of the University and interact with invited leaders of peer organizations across the state. Cultivate new partnerships and new ideas. Opportunities truly do abound. Let’s explore Innovation in Action – together.

Best regards,

Glenda Humiston

Vice President
