Given the need for lower costs for implementation and maintenance a new
technology emerged, more efficient not only economically but also from the quality point of view.
UAVs can be seen as a supplement or replacement for terrestrial photogrammetry
and related areas such as topography and cadaster.
Compared to other technologies, the UAV provide large coverage in a short time (100
ha/hour) and a range of precision distributed between a few inches and a couple of meters,
depending on the desired product.

UAV photogrammetry can be perceived as a new tool or branch of classical
photogrammetry. UAV opens new perspectives in the field recordings made from small and
medium distances, but also represents an introduction to new alternatives.

constant feedback from the permanent ground station in order to keep on flying.

WHAT IS A DRONE?
JOURNEYJOURNEYIt is a model airplane, made after a particular design, with dedicated remote sensing
system (multispectral sensors from HD video camera to thermal and IR) equipped with launch and
parachute systems for takeoffs and landings in area that wont allow for a glided landing. Composite
materials used in its construction (fiberglass, carbon, kevlar) provide protection and allow working
even in moderate rain.
Control is achieved either by default flight plans, either manually via telemetry in real
time. All real-time images are transmitted from the on board system to the ground. Although it is an
alternative technology, all the problems and restrictions are successfully completed in this model.
Payload limitation, non-metric camera calibration, automatic route flight planning based on a
navigation system via waypoints, constraints on the need for stereoscopic recordings, flight
management, onboard sensors and safety and legal aspects are satisfied.

With the evolution of technology the need for more precise information obtained in a
short time over a large area increased.
The UAV technology can get the data even from area that were previously regarded
as dangerous or inaccessible. We have the ability to make measurements from a safe distance
without the risk of accidents.
The hexacopter can go where no measurement tool can reach, taking a variety of
data types.
Journey can fly under the flight ceiling imposed to platforms specific to classic
photogrammetry. This allows acquisition of images that satisfy all needs. In this way the time and
execution costs are reduced.
We offer an alternative to traditional means, our advantages being: short execution
time, high level of details, lower costs, high temporal, spatial and radiometric resolution. This type
of information is only available using one of the two UAV alternatives.

Thematic maps are based on images taken using UAV technology in a wide
spectral range (thermal infrared, color infrared, visible RGB), data taken from different sensors,
3D laser scanning and existing analog plans. Interaction between land surface and any factor of
influence can be represented in the form of thematic maps. Their establishment is based on
theoretical principles applied in an ideal context. An example is determining the amount of water
accumulated in micro relief regions. Wind effect based on obstacles in the region (mountain
peaks, forests, valleys). These thematic maps can be made at all stages of the project be them
initial, intermediate or final.
This can highlight the interaction between the new elements appeared in the field,
interaction that could explain different phenomena (landslides, floods).
Further analysis can be performed based on cameras recordings in thermal
infrared. Noise maps are other products with utility in studies of the environment.

For those who practice aerial archaeology, research has shown that the recordings
captured during observation flights in some areas, and study of earlier aerial photography allow to
identify vestiges of the past before they are irretrievably lost. Some of the factors that may cause
such levels of degradation are urban development, population growth, intensive agriculture and
other more aggressive interventions on the natural environment.
In western countries, air investigative programs are going on for decades for the
purpose of photography and mapping archaeological sites and historic landscapes. This process
provides a wealth of information for understanding cultural heritage and for developing strategies
and policies for protection, conservation, restoration, management and enhancement thereof.
It depends on each country to develop its own programs for aerial photography in
order to complement archaeological maps. This includes not only individual sites from prehistory
nut also modern time ones and cultural landscapes covering large areas, especially those
threatened by rapid changes in infrastructure caused by industrial, settlements or agricultural
expansion.

MOSAICSMOSAICSIs a product that can be obtained thanks to the high degree of overlap between
images (60-80%). More precise, it is a graphical representation of the entire area of interest. In this
form, the mosaics are used as support. It also has use in spectral analysis stages. For example in
vegetation studies: health, stress, vegetative stage, species, age, all can be determine from a
mosaic.
Their high temporal resolution allows for a more rigorous management of the area
from conservation and evolutionary point of view. This way, highlighting potential problem areas is
done more easily and efficiently. Mosaics allow the study of virtually any area of interest up closely,
without the need for local intervention.

measurements, the original mosaic have to be orthorectified. Based on the DSM, the terrain
configuration effect is reduced. The errors and possible variations due to lens or camera type are
also removed.

for them.
