Time and Place… For your FMP you will be exploring the theme of time and place. This theme will allow you to focus your early research and generate initial ideas. From this you will then develop your ideas independently to produce an individual personal project that has somehow evolved from your initial research and ideas. Throughout the FMP you will need to expand and develop ideas, reflecting on your progress through your journal and the tutorial note sheets, which you will hand in with this FMP book. You will also carry out extensive contextual research which will inform your ideas and be compiled in a research folder. The FMP is composed of four sections, which you will be assessed against: Planning and Production
Research, development and problem-solving
Practical skills and presentation
Evaluation and reflection
At the end of the assessment you will need to hand in the following for assessment:
FMP book with weekly planner filled in and at least 5 tutorial notes and action plans
completed and attached
Journal or A3 workbook which contains mind-maps, ideas, development and documentation
of progress alongside relevant visual research. You might also want to produce a digital
blog to document your progress.
Maquettes, storyboards, drafts and experiments.
Research file containing artist research. This should be laid out using the template on page 7.
Typed up and printed Statement of Intent.
Final outcome presented in exhibition space.
Typed up and printed evaluation.
Grading This unit is graded pass, merit or distinction. To gain a pass, all assessment criteria must be met. To gain a merit, all assessment criteria must be met to a high level. To gain a distinction, all assessment criteria must be met to a very high level.

STATEMENT OF INTENT
The statement of intent (or project proposal) is an important part of your FMP that
sets out what you intend to do, how you are going to do it and what techniques,
processes, influences and recording methods you intend to use.
Your statement of intent should be broken into five sections. Use the boxes below to make notes for each section and then type up your final statement as a single written piece of work. This should then be printed out and stuck into your journal or workbook once it has been checked by your tutor.
SECTION ONE – Review of Level 2 so far
How have you found the course so far? What have been your most successful projects and
which have you enjoyed the most and why? What are your key strengths and how do you
intend to use them in your FMP? What areas are you less confident in? Do you intend to avoid
them or challenge yourself to develop them?
SECTION TWO – Ideas generation and Planning
What is your FMP idea? How did you generate ideas in response to the given theme?
SECTION THREE – Influences, Research, Sources and Ideas
What are the influences, starting points and contextual references and why are they relevant
to your ideas? Indicate the subject areas you intend to research and the likely sources of
information including any museums, specific locations, performances, etc you plan to visit.
SECTION FOUR – Techniques, Processes and Timescale
Refer to any techniques and processes you intend to use. Describe the range of media and
materials relevant to your project and how you may use them to explore and develop your
ideas. Include aspects of studio practice, workshop procedures or the use of particular
equipment and software etc.
SECTION FIVE – Recording, reflecting and evaluating
How will you critically review and analyse your work and determine if it is successful? How
will you identify directions for ongoing development? Do you have a method to record the
critical response to your ideas? How do you propose to assess the success of your Final
Major Project and what will be your methods of evaluation?
ARTIST RESEARCH Use this template to help you conduct purposeful, analytical artist research. Include images and put into your research file. Name of artist / movement: Date of birth – Date of death: One sentence summary: Images: Why have you chosen to look at the work of this artist / movement? What materials, processes and technical skills do you think they use? What is your opinion of their work? Do you intend to use this artist / movement as inspiration for your project? How do you intend to do this?

EVALUATION At the end of your FMP, you will need to write a thorough and analytical evaluation of your project, which will be typed up and handed in alongside your statement of intent. This should be at least one side of A4. Your evaluation should be divided into four headed sections and answer the following questions. Use the boxes below to make notes before you type up your evaluation. Approach, research and organisation
What did you set out to do in your statement of intent?
Did your project deviate from your initial plans?
How did you plan your time? Did you stick to your plan?
What research did you carry out? Was this effective? Which artists were particularly inspirational
to your project?
Negotiation and project management
How did tutorials, critiques and peer feedback help you to develop your ideas?
Did you encounter any problems with carrying out your project? How did you overcome them?
How did you document your progress? What communication methods have you used?
How well did you work independently?
Materials, techniques and processes
Which materials, processes and technical skills did you use in the development of your project and
why did you choose to use these?
Which materials, processes and technical skills did you use for your final outcome? Why did you
choose these for your final outcome?
Did you encounter any problems in the production of your final outcome? How did you solve these?
Are there any other materials, processes or technical skills you would use if you were to do this
again? How might they have been more successful?
Which artists from your research used similar materials, processes and technical skills to the ones
you used? How does your work compare with theirs?
Analysis and critical evaluation skills
Are you happy with your final outcome? Is there anything you are unhappy with?
What is the most successful part of your FMP? Why?
What would you change if you could do it again?
Do you think you managed your time effectively? Do you think there was anything you spent
more/less time on than you should have?
Did you enjoy the experience of developing and producing a personal project?
