➢UAF eLearning & Distance Education is part of the University of Alaska Fairbanks.➢It has a distance delivery program offering correspondence courses for more than twenty-five years. ➢It offers hundreds of courses every year, including required courses for various degree programs.

➢Unlike many Russian higher educational institutions which are developing learning management systems of their own, UAF uses a commercial LMS software package Blackboard.

➢It has a set of effective educational tools: e-mail sending, assignment submitting, quizzes, a discussion board, blogging and a teleconference.

My experiences from host university UAF

➢As a participant of the Fulbright Faculty Development Program, I have observed online and face-to-face courses to learn about best practices in distance education.

➢I have , researched and developed a course description, syllabus and outline specific teaching strategies for a new hybrid course, face-to-face plus online component, Interest Groups and Lobbying in the United States.

➢E-textbooks transcend the limitations of print textbooks by containing multiple volumes, workbooks, reference books, and various multimedia files through which learners can access literally at their fingertips.

➢Mode of delivery: Hybrid (face-to-face plus LMS CoureSites by Blackboard - www.coursesites.com)

➢This LMS allows to:

a) Create up to 5 course websites, free.

b) Engage students in social learning.

c) Weave multimedia into class content.

d) Assess performance and manage grades.

e) Share Open Education Resources.

f) Teach open courses or MOOCs.

● Business Plan – group assignment (2-3 students). Required: 50-60 pages (double-spaced)+ figures, bibliography; APSA citation style.

●Research Paper – individual assignment (1 student). Required: 25 pages (double-spaced)+ figures, bibliography; APSA citation style.
