WKU regents meet tomorrow to consider budget, appeal, audit

The University's Board of Regents will meet tomorrow (Thursday, Aug. 20) at 10 a .m . with an agenda including consid­eration of the 1992-93 operating budget.

The new board, which was appointed by Gov. Brereton Jones last month, will be conducting official business for the first time as a board at the meeting.

Board members will receive copies of the University's re­sponse to the audit by Arthur Andersen and Co., and will discuss billings for the audit.

Also on the agenda will be discussion of the appeal of the lawsuit against hiring former Gov. Louie B. Nunn by former regents which was ruled illegal in Warren Circuit Court.

A large number of other agenda items will be considered, such as academic program changes and personnel changes since April 30.

Kristen T. Bale, a resident of Glasgow, holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin at. Madison. She is a member of the Kentucky Museum Advisory Board, the education committee of the Glasgow-Barren County Cham­ber of Commerce, the Barren County Bicentennial Committee and serves as bookkeeper for her husband's office.

DR EUGENE E, EVANS

Dr. Eugene E. Evans, professor of management and marketing, serves as faculty representative on the Board of Regents. Evans, joined the WKU faculty in 1965. A native of Peoria, Ill., he received a bachelor's degree from the Univer­Sity of Maryland and a master's degree from the University of

Illinois. He eamed his d octoral degree at Illinois in 1963. He has also served on the faculty at Hamline University and the Uni­versity of Kentucky.

ROBERT EARL FISCHER

Earl Fischer, president of West­em Kentucky Gas Company in Owensboro, is a graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School and Brescia College. He serves as a member of the board of directors of Owensboro National Bank, the board of Environmental Waste TechnOlogies in Owensboro, the Board of Trustees of Brescia Col­lege, and is a past president of the Bowling Green-Warren County Chamber of Commerce. He cur­rently serves as vice chainnan and a member of the board of directors of the Owensboro Industrial Foundation and as a member of

the board of directors of Leader­ship Kentucky.

C,C, HOWARD GRAY

Howard Gray is a native of Glasgow and serves as president of James N . Gray Construction Company'. He holds a bachelor's degree from WKU and also attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Wisconsin. He has served as president of the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce and as a director of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves as a member of the board of directors of Trans Financial Bank, a board member of Leadership Kentucky and a director of the Japan-America Society of Kentucky.

New residence halls house 388 Students are moving into the University's two new residence halls

which were dedicated yesterday. Located at t~e ~omer of University Boulevard and Normal Drive, the

three-story bUlldmgs are housing students in sororities and those with at le~st a 2.0 grade point average and 61 credit hours who have been in contmual go~ .standi~g with the University. ~e $7.6 . million prOject was financed through the sale of bonds and is

MONNIE L. HANKINS

Monnie L. Hankins, a staff manager at South Central Bell in Louisville, is a graduate of Owens­boro High School and Western Kentucky University. He is chair­man of the Chestnut Street YMCA Black Achiever Program, a career exposure program enrolling more than 600 students. He is also a member of Leadership Louisville, the United Way and Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

PEGGY W. LOAFMAN

Peggy Loafman is a graduate of Taylorsville High School and holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from WKU. She is vice president/South Central Kentucky District of The Cumberland Bank in Bowling Green and currently is the chairman of the board of the Bowling Green-Warren County

Chamber of Commerce. She serves on the Vocational Educa­tion Region IV Advisory Commit­tee and on the board of Leader­ship Bowling Green. She is a 1991 graduate of the Leadership Kentucky program.

BURNS E. MERCER

Bums Mercer, a native of Hardinsburg. is director of ad­ministrative services for the Meade County Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation. He is a graduate of Breckinridge County High School and Western Ken­tucky University. He serves as a member of the board of directors of the Rural Cooperative Credit Union and as a member of the Kentucky Chamber of-Commerce Education Committee and is a member of the executive committee of the Kentucky Advocates for Higher Education. He is a former chair­man of the Kentucky Council on Higher Education, the Kentucky Educational Television Board and

the Kentucky Student Loan Corpo­ration Board. He is a member of the Board of Visitors of the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at North­ern Kentucky University.

FRED N. MUDGE

Fred Mudge, president and chief executive officer of Logan Alumi­num in Russellville, holds a bachelor's degree from West Virginia University and a master's degree from Bellannine College. He is past president of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the board of directors of the Kentucky Cham­ber of Commerce, Junior Achieve­ment of South Central Kentucky and Leadership Kentucky. He previously served as chairman of the board of trustees at Logan Memorial Hospital.

RAYMOND B. PRESTON

Raymond B. Preston, is founder of P.B. & S. Chemical Co. in Henderson. He is a graduate of

Meade Memorial High School and Western Kentucky Univer­sity. He is a past president of the National Association of Chemical Distributors and the South~astern Chemical Distributors Council. He is a former member of the board of trustees at Henderson Community Col1ege and a past president of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce and the Henderson Country Club. He currently serves as president of the Ohio Valley National Bank in Henderson. WKU's new health and activities center, scheduled to open this fall, will carry Mr. Preston's name.

Joe Rains serves as the student regent on the WKU board. He is a junior corporate and organiza­tional communications major from Antioch, Tennessee. He is a graduate of Ezell Harding Chris­tian SchooL

sis, respiratory testing, flexibility assessment and muscle strength and endurance measurement

The ancillary fea tures include a lounge and vending area with space for socializing, training and first aid rooms, administrative offices, equipment issue and storage a reas, separate locker rooms for facu lty and students, a centralized controlled entry and exit system and closed-circuit television monitors for surveil­lance .

The facility measures more than 112,000 square feet with an oriKi­nal construction contract p rice of more than $8 million.

Where is everybody? ??? Faculty and staff temporarily reloca ted across campus know where

you are, but the rest of us may be wondering. While renovation continues in Tate Page and Potter Halls, offices

normally in Tate Page Hall have been relocated to the Academic Complex, Jones-Jaggers Hall and Helm and Cravens Libraries.

Some o ffices, however, remain on the fourth floor only of Tate Page Hall .

Dr. James Heck, executive assistant to the president, has been work­ing with persons involved in finding temporary locations for classes and offices.

In Student Affairs, Housing is moved to Jones-Jaggers, Auxiliary Services to Van Meter Hall, Residence Life to Suite 100 in McCormack Hall, Minority Student Support Services to Bates-Runner Hall and. Student Life to Bates-Runner Hall's home economics apartments.

The Page Hall Copy Center is in Room 120 of the Downing Univer­sity Center'.

Classes normally held in Tate Page Hall are being held at various locations across campus, and there are numerous signs pos ted .
