Do Now… How do you get to know someone? With your

team, make a list of steps that people often go through as they get acquainted.

Continue to think this as you read, watching for ways in which Moon Shadow and his father become familiar with new people and things.

It’s important throughout our reading of the novel to gather new ideas & details.

Prepare to discuss & defend ideas and questions in Starbucks with TBE and logical reasoning.

Subject/Topic Technique (actions, words, thoughts) & TBE

Point of View Inference

The Land of the Golden Mountain

Pg. 1-2 – NARRATOR’S THOUGHTSMoon Shadow shares with “us” some of the good and bad details about what is in The Land of the Golden Mountains.

Pg.7-8 – NARRATOR’S CONVERSATIONMoon Shadow (narrator/main character) tells “us” that he asks questions about the “The Land of the Golden Mountain”…then has the conversation with Grandmother.

Even though Moon Shadow is being given “negative” information about The Land of the Golden Mountains from his grandmother, his point of view is neutral.

It seems that even though he is nervous about learning of it, he is too curious not to ask questions…it’s like knowing something is wrong but still too interested in it to not do it.
