    AbstractModern high education requires systemically integrated information systems that improvethe information exchange and the quality of services for realization of an open education andbringing up human resources. In this paper, we introduce the integrated information systems,U-WIN(The University of Ulsan Web based Information Network) that is to upgrade thecurrent education, the research environments and the information services.U-WIN uses the latest information technology to construct important systems of the campus,which will cover administration and research services, portal services, digital library, EDMS,cyber learning, mobile campus and so on. This project will be based on the InformationStrategy Planning and Business Process Reengineering. I n this project we focus on the effi-cient management of university and the future-oriented informative campus. To realize thesegoals we selected the Microsoft .NET and implement some web services based on XML to ac-complish the opened, integrated, extendible and mobile systems.Keywords :U-WIN, information service system, administration, portal, digital library, EDMS, cy-ber learning, mob ile campus, ISPE'R, XML W eb Services, .NET.1. IntroductionAs modem society undergoes a change to knowledge-based information society, the high educational organizations suchas universities are faced on the requests of reforming the education system, enhancing competitive power, bringing uphuman resource and so on.For keeping step with these environment changes, the.University of Ulsan bas adopted up-to-date information te'ch-nology and is developing the U-WIN (The University of Ulsan Web based Information Network) system.Through the ISPPR(1nformation Strategic PlanningProcess Reengineering) process, we redesign future-oriented busi-ness process and establish master plan by analyzing whole environment of the University of Ulsan.The U-Win system realizes XML web services that support any time, any place, and any device services based on theMicroSoA .NET platform, and ensure high performance and stability through embodying distributed processing on 3-tier architecture.We show the characteristics of each it systems that is composing the U-WIN system in chapter 2, describe the systeminterior structure and development technology in chapter 3 reaches a conclusion in chapter 4 .

    2. The U-WIN System 3 .U-WIN extends in several various fields on the basis, of the Windows DNA (Distributed interNet Application Architec-ture). Microsoft .NET platform that selected in the U-WIN system offers component based service set that is supportedby rich m-t im e environment.

    2.4.EDMSEDMS(E1ectronic Document Management System) is the integration system for.e ficiency of business, and it managesconsistently whole life cycle that from creation to disuse of various document and data of the university.It supports systematic management of document by using Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server that analyzing target aboutother related system in U-Win.

    . .2 5 Administration and Research systemThe main business systems in the U-WIN are educational matters , administration, research, affiliated organizations,Management Information System, and other supported system.They provide efficient administration services to users that connected and shared with each others on .NET platform.Ultimately they are connected to the portal system for share resource and infomation with others.They are portal support system that ready to provide Service to all university constituents and ordinary.

    2.6. Mobile ServiceMobile service is system that support service without being courted in time and place using wireless network and de-vices such as mobile phone, PDA, smart phone, etc on .NET framework.As it capacitates quick service of system such as educational matters, research, and general administration system thatrelated with teaching staffs and students, it gives a high quality of services and productivity.It offers studentsimportant nformation such as a course application, ob information, examination, and schedule. It alsogives the message service about various meeting schedule and lecture schedule to professors.

    2.7. Cyber LearningThe U-WIN system improves quality of education and eficiency of studying by supporting various remote learning ser-vices to students through the introduction of LMS(Leaming Management System).Also, the practical use of class com-munity between professors and students can invent synergy effect between off-line and web-based class.In addition, the system helps users to make cyber lectures more easily and efficiently by introducing expert lecture edit-ing solution.

    2.8. Digital LibraryDigital library system in the U-WIN system will integrate the library automation system with CMS-based managementsystem using Pharos.Netsolution of the DAEWOO information system.Through this system, we realize particularly optimized personalization service and implement the future-oriented knowl-edge portal solution of library which makes it possible to inter-operates with other systems.

    3. Developmentof the U-Win System3.1. ArchitectureAs shown in , The U-WIN system based on the Microsoft .Net platform consists of 3-tier architecture; the pres-entation layer, the business layer and the data layer.The presentation layer is compose of the ASP.NET applications which provide user-friendly interface and takes advan-tage of COM+ technology for resources pooling, process threading and transaction management.

    The 3-tier architecture offers server's reliability, scalability and high availability separating loads to several servers thansingle server solution.3.2. ISPA RISPPR process constructs effective integrated information system with campus information diagnosis, information strat-egy plan establishment and the business process reengineering to achieve the target the U-WIN system aims at. shows the target of ISPPR.

    The propulsion targets of ISPPR.,ISPPR uses methods of executive interview, interview with steps in charge and questionnaire, analysis of various pre-sent condition data, advanced case study etc. Through these methods, ISPPR presents current situation analysis andimprovement direction for the business environment and the organization of the university.

    3.3. Development MethodologyIn this project, we develop suitable methodology which is a standard for the direction establishment of the system devel-opment and consistency maintenance in a beginning stage, and applies this to the whole development process.By developing the suitable methodology based on RUP (Rational Unified Process, we improves efficiency of the ex-pense assessment, project management and the maintenance of developed system.     3.4. SecurityThe U-WIN project selected the optimal security solution and establish secure network security infrastructure such asinvasion cutoff and invasion detection, authentication etc.The first security system offers system and network security through the fire-wall, the second security system named IDScooperating with the fire-wall, detect and intercept more strong hacking and unauthorized access such as packet manu-facturing.The third security system which uses Secure OS handles access control for pretending intemal users attack, control theinternal users access, and file or directory.

    4 ConclusionIn this paper, we described the development of integrated information system in the University of Ulsan. The U-WINsystem gives several effects such as high quality service with no resbiction on time and space, realization of the servicesatisfaction through excluding repetition.business and repletion infrastructure, and research power enhancement throughthe spread of domestic information and knowledge,Since the U-WIN system is the biggest software project in the universities of Korea, we expect the hest reformation ofprocess and standard solution for university portal system. We also expect quantitative effect of cost-cutting as well asqualitative effect of users satisfaction.
